I totally agree, make a new post. This post is dead. The ground loop issue has been identified and fixed.

Of course he is insecure. He is clearly desperate for confirmation. I don't think that post is a part of a master plan. If there was a masterplan they would never have made that goof of making fun of a journalist.

Re: Z80 Pu voltage rail

According to the interwebs, the typical reason for this behaviour is indeed the reset circuit, and the solution is apparently to pull separate power cables to the CPU board, which sounds silly. I don't have this problem with mine (well, since I changed batteries, that is, before that it did behave l...

Re: I repaired an old drum machine and made a video. More?

I wasn't planning on doing the 909 anytime yet, but while trying to sync the OSCar from it, I realized the snare drums and hi hats had stopped working.

So I opened it up:

Re: I repaired an old drum machine and made a video. More?

I'm not able to get my OSCar to sync to anything, neither via MIDI nor the trigger input. I have a vague feeling I did it once in 2002 or so. The manual is unhelpful. Anyone know the trick? Edit: Yes, the trick is to NOT use a TR-909 as the clock source. Maybe it doesn't send Start/stop? I don't kn...

Re: Never meet your heroes

Yeah, my Waldorf Microwave. You should in theory be able to do cool things by sweeping through the wavetables, and the wavetables should enable it to do loads of things. I find that most of the tables sound pretty much the same, and instead of sweeping the table you can just sweep the filter and the...

Re: Four records that changed your life.

Curious you've mentioned Ultravox - I'm a massive fan, but only of the pre-Midge Ure era. From Vienna onward it was a bit of a put down for me. I love the song, but Vienna the album is actually quite bad... Love Rage in Eden though. But I never got into John Foxx-era Ultravox! though, but I really ...

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

I think I'd prefer if Behringer spurred innovation by using their considerable resources to...um...innovate. Making a cheaper mousetrap is as much of an innovation as making a better one. And their synths are definitely innovation. I'm not sure any single idea is unique, but the Deepmind 12 not onl...

What he said ^

Also, pure alcohol (ethanol or isopropyl, typically) will clean tape heads and the metal parts. It'll destroy the rubber though. And it uses standard 1/4" tape.

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

Not only does it force innovation, with their synth ventures they do what the big companies refuse to do: Re-release classic gear. Roland's TR-08 and TR-09 are extra good examples of simply just tricking customers with shallow nostalgia, but not giving them anything. The TR-08 and TR-09 are just Rol...

Re: Desoldering pump, electric, necessary?

I finally did that test I promised. I published a video if you want to see it, as well. But you don't have to see the conclusion, because it's "You get what you pay for". No an electric desoldering pump isn't necessary. But it's a lot easier and quicker, and if you work on something valuable, it's t...

Re: Four records that changed your life.

Just four? Ultravox - Vienna & Visage - Fade to Gray: Two records, yes, but one instance. They were played on a popular toplist program on Swedish radio one week, I loved both, and the radio host called them "synthpop". It gave me my first musical identity. Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express: Blew my ...

Re: Why does a square waves sound detuned when in the lower range ?

I checked with a digital oscillator, and it happened to me as well. But when I filtered out the harmonics it stopped happening, and I think it starts happening because the fundamental becomes to week because of either lack of bass in the speakers, or if your system can handle it, because it goes so ...

And on the topic of videos, I finished my OSCar repair, despite getting "help" from professionals.

I might finish some half done videos I have lying around, but that's it, I only get 50-60 views per video, and it's not enough to keep me motivated. :-)

Re: I repaired an old drum machine and made a video. More?

Wow, that's certainly an unusual solution. I looked at the circuitry, and the bits that are there to help charge the battery is on the other board, but I guess this must work anyway.

Does your OSCar have MIDI? I can't see how the MIDI daughter board would fit with that battery there...

Re: Audio Interface - How to choose?

Cool I didn't know that :) A guy in a music store told me never to preamp into a preamp and I have been very confused since. I really don't understand why a preamp into another preamp has to be a bad thing. Well, you don't need to have two preamps whose amplification you can adjust. It's simply not...

Re: Why does my synth create a ground loop?

So, the "WHY" is probably "Internal capacitance in the circuit board". The more important question is how to fix it, and the correct answer seems to be is to put the smallest capacitor you have between the chassi ground and the 0 volt. You can see how it's done on an OSCar here https://youtu.be/SoE-...

Re: Audio Interface - How to choose?

That looks nice, and I do like Tascam, but every input has a preamp. Actually, it has 8 inputs with mic preamps, and 8 line inputs on the back and 2 line/instrument inputs on the front. And now I'm going to be very annoying, and point out that all inputs on everything has preamps. ;-) The mic input...

I've been eyeing the Tascam US-16x08, it has good reviews, I like Tascam stuff, and my current 20 year old internal I/O picks up noise from the computer which is driving me nuts. That big green thing on the processor board is a capacitor on mine, and a much smaller one. It that green thing a capacitor? It doesn't look like an electrolytic capacitor. It kinda looks like a battery. Can you make a closeup?

Much more than this I'd love to watch the OSCar being re-assembled again, with no parts being left at the end...
I *might* have enough footage of assembling it to make that happen, but I'll make no promises.

More info:

I'm considering sticking a 100 Ohm resistor in to the ground to get rid of it, but I haven't made up my mind yet.
