Re: Disting MIDI Breakout alternatives? MIDI breakout shields?
Hmmm, good question - I suppose it might be possible but highly unlikely given the way the wire is. I will double check. Thanks.

Re: Disting MIDI Breakout alternatives? MIDI breakout shields?
Hi os, I’m a bit stumped after soldering up one of these DIY breakouts myself. I bought a 4 pin ribbon cable, soldered it to two cannibalized HOSA TRS jacks, and all connections have continuity (tested with multimeter). Where I’m at: - MIDI out (pins 1 and 2 on the Disting) works perfectly fine, MID...

Re: Ryk M185 Sequencer - per step repeat and gate mode
The A+B CV addition is applied after the scale quantisation, so that it can be used as a key change. It effectively allows you to sequence the root note of the quantisation scale. Hope that helps Cheers ryk Thanks for the clarification! It would be great to have the option to do it the other way, b...

Re: Ryk M185 Sequencer - per step repeat and gate mode
I'm really loving this sequencer now. One question for RYK based on this text in the manual: 4. A + B Sequence CV offset ON/OFF The CV from Sequence B is added to the CH1 CV to create note offsets, or key changes. This is useful when creating a looped pattern in Sequence A, and using a slower patter...

Re: Polyend Tracker
Thanks to everyone for their detailed input. I’m thinking this isn’t a great pairing for the Digitakt after all. I want something which can direct the action (song mode, program changes) and has its own tricks up its sleeves... but stable, reliable, and mature. Maybe I’ll look again later this year....

Re: Polyend Tracker
I definitely prefer non-beta firmware in hardware that costs ~$500+. There's nothing less vibey than filing a bug report in the middle of a session. I think it's great they're making strides and issuing frequent updates, but I'll wait for the pioneers to get the arrows for this piece if I dive in at...

Thanks to everyone chiming in with real-world details here. As someone who has been eyeing the Tracker (but isn't quite ready to dive in until some of these issues are dealt with), it's extremely valuable. Agreed! The difference between this thread and, say, Elektronauts' Tracker thread is pretty s...

Re: The Elektron Model:Cycles Thread
They go for less than $250 used, which is a steal. You can use it for drum sounds (and it excels at that), but you can also use it as a 6-track FM synth for melodic and harmonic stuff. Kinda incredible. I'm being serious when I say I would pay $200+ for it as a MIDI sequencer alone (you get probabil...

Retrokits has done this! And in fact they have an inline inverter with a switch that will change any cable's polarity in this way.fruitsnake wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 3:28 pmSomeone should seize the opportunity, like a true capitalist, and start making TRS cables with the tip and ring swapped: A-to-B type link cables!

Re: The Elektron Model:Cycles Thread
Model cycles > model samples? I have the latter and now own a more serious sampler... that said I have a digitone too... :) decisions decisions I think the Samples is a bit like a crippled Digitakt, while the Cycles is definitely not a crippled Digitone... it punches way above its weight IMO. Obvio...

Re: Gear suggestions: moving away from Elektron
Interesting to see so many votes for the MPC One here. I bought one when it came out, found it extremely clunky (felt like a DAW on a tablet but without the more powerful stuff), and went right back to the Digitakt, which I still love despite its limitations.

Re: new OP-1-like synth!
I love the sound and interface of the ELZ-1. I just wish it had DIN or at least TRS MIDI as well! Otherwise, it’s nearly perfect for what it is. I really like the crazy “gacha” parameter on the FM mode, which is really just a randomizer for all params. Very cool.

Every time I think I understand exactly what's going on at each stage, someone posts another comment here and makes me rethink it. I really have to find the time to sit down and test things out myself, because I do believe I was conflating some of this.

Thanks for the insight, Zentek. I agree that a way to set everything to default would be incredibly useful, but perhaps “default” isn’t really meaningful in this instance (?).

Re: new OP-1-like synth!

Re: Klavis - CalTrans
Appreciate all of the details here from everyone. I have to sit down with mine again and methodically figure out what exactly is happening. Ultimately, I think it’s kind of impractical to expect tracking across 5+ octaves to be perfect in the first place, and even though I’d love it if this module d...

Re: DivKid RND STEP
It has very minimal droop for an analog S&H. I wouldn’t expect it to hold pitch steady forever, but if you’re sending it quantized CV and need to hold a chord for a few bars, you’ll be fine.

Re: DivKid RND STEP
Envelope times are another great one, if you have an envelope that allows for that. Re: velocity... your first VCA will control the overall shape & dynamic character of the amplitude. If you run the output of that first VCA into a second one (as input) and modulate it with one of RND STEP's unipolar...

Re: DivKid RND STEP
Being able to use one trigger to get 6 unique random values for a single voice is incredibly convenient. Simple idea for you to try: Mult the gate signal you're already using for a bog-standard voice (VCO -> VCF -> VCA) Send it to the RND STEP trigger at the top Use the resulting six signals (direct...

I have one; it's quite different but also cool. Customs must have been a little rough with mine, because I had to reseat an LED and another part, but Dedal patiently guided me through the fixes. Compared to the DivKid, it also does a whole lot more, with two random algorithms. Really cool style from...
