Re: SSL Serge USG - NOW SHIPPING !!!

Looks great, Doug, but are you certain you want to provide folks with a way to EQ a resonance at 29Hz? Sounds like a recipe for clipped power amplifiers and blown speakers... Or am I unclear on the concept... :hmm: NP. You are clear on your concept, and I can't say you are wrong in your thinking Si...

Re: Stasis Leak by Frequency Central

I received a factory-built Stasis Leak from Noisebug last week and I love it!. The biggest surprise is the stereo plate reverb emulation, which sounds really superb! It's totally different from a Q115 spring reverb (keeping both in my system) and opens up LOTS of cool stuff. I'm even keeping my SSL ...

I was not really sure which sub-forum to post this in but anyway, something I’ve wondered about S-O-B for the past 40 years and it occurs to me now that I’m a member here why not ask... at the very end of the invention in F there is a soft trailing echo of sorts with a crumbling/disintegrating char...

Re: Electronic music is the music of automation and accidents

Here's Herbie Hancock talking about Miles Davis and musical "accidents". (The "accident" story starts at around 2:22, but the whole interview is worth watching.)

Moral: There are no accidents.

Another quickie re-paneling project. This time it's combining 2 dotcom Q108 VCAs into a single 1U panel. Bought two of these from Jeremy Sharp:

I'll be doing the same conversion this weekend: 4 x Q108 > 2 x Dual 1U Amplifiers.

Re: Can you hear the difference between audio interface A/D converters?

This thread has me wanting to post some measurements to better identify the objective differences between different converters, but it’s not exactly the easiest time to get hold of an Audio Precision machine in the covid-ravaged southern US. An AP unit will only show you measured differences. Wheth...

Re: Can you hear the difference between audio interface A/D converters?

+ It goes without saying that altering the source, or the mic and its position, will have a significant impact on the sound, but that’s not the question at hand and that fact does not preclude the fact that different converters do indeed impart (often subtle, yet entirely perceptible) coloration. I...

Re: Can you hear the difference between audio interface A/D converters?

Have you recorded voices/acoustic instruments in real rooms, rather than synths/synthetic spaces, through them? That might reveal a difference :hmm: edit: 'difference', not implying better/worse. I heard à différence when recording Trumpet into my RME UCX rather than into my old presonus ! But I ch...

... I found that my mindset changed once Rec was pressed. Even if I was trying to let loose and play like a child who didn't care, I couldn't. Too many years in bands trying to nail takes has cued me to 'Rec = critical self reflection in the moment'. Which takes away my joy and ability to focus on ...

But it must be soo frustrating if you come across a great section where the mix is a bit off? Not being able to fix it would make me lose hope. Not nearly as frustrating as creating magic that is gone forever as soon as it's over because you didn't bother to press 'Record' at the beginning of the s...

In the '90s I worked in an office with a copy room that contained three very large photocopy machines, each one of which could produce hundreds (if not thousands) of copies of multi-page documents, including collating and stapling them. During the week or two before we attended the Consumer Electron...
