Re: At long last, Salve intemerata.

This is an absolute masterpiece — full of emotion and (dare I say it?) soul. A stunning achievement.

I sit when I play keyboard; when I patch I need to stand to reach the middle and top tiers.

Re: Speaker modules?

Can anyone here please educate me as to exactly what 'portable' situations could/would benefit from a synth having built-in speakers? Re: Speaker modules?

Modular synthesizer cabinet space is WAY too precious to waste on inventing speaker modules that will sound mediocre at best, and more likely will sound much worse than mediocre. Such a module (really a pair of modules) would need to include built-in amplification and DSP processing and would requir...

For those interested in some "Inside Baseball", here's a great story by Ted Templeman about how he signed Van Halen and recorded their first album.

Re: Lack of space in music

And dumb it may be No it’s not dumb at all. What’s dumb is not seeing the value in what Miles was saying and the context he was saying it in. “It's not the notes you play, it's the notes you don't play.” - Miles Davis I always thought this was the dumbest quote ever about music. Music results from ...

Re: Lack of space in music

Now the quote of yours (that I highlighted) makes perfect sense and I agree with it 100%. Although that may well be what Miles meant in his quote, it's not at all what he said. "The difference between the right word and the almost-right word is the difference between the lightning bolt and the ligh...

“It's not the notes you play, it's the notes you don't play.” - Miles Davis I always thought this was the dumbest quote ever about music. Music results from the choices one makes when creating it. Re: most orgasmic songs

It's been surmised that the beginning of Daphnis et Chloe Suite #2 was Ravel's intent to musically represent a series of female orgasms. The passage between 4:00 and 5:00 is unmistakably a musical orgasm.

Once I have an idea in my head I'll usually start by laying down a pad or two, then build from there. Bass is next, followed by live drums. Melodies and other textures follow.

A pair of 1980-vintage Klipsch Cornwall speakers (3-way: 15" woofer/mid horn/HF horn) driven by an Electron Kinetics Eagle 2A amplifier. (Portable it ain't.) FYI: Wendy Carlos uses four Cornwalls as her studio monitors.

Looks great, Doug, but are you certain you want to provide folks with a way to EQ a resonance at 29Hz? Sounds like a recipe for clipped power amplifiers and blown speakers... Or am I unclear on the concept... :hmm: NP. You are clear on your concept, and I can't say you are wrong in your thinking Si...

I received a factory-built Stasis Leak from Noisebug last week and I love it!. The biggest surprise is the stereo plate reverb emulation, which sounds really superb! It's totally different from a Q115 spring reverb (keeping both in my system) and opens up LOTS of cool stuff. I'm even keeping my SSL ...

Here's Herbie Hancock talking about Miles Davis and musical "accidents". (The "accident" story starts at around 2:22, but the whole interview is worth watching.)

Another quickie re-paneling project. This time it's combining 2 dotcom Q108 VCAs into a single 1U panel. Bought two of these from Jeremy Sharp:

I'll be doing the same conversion this weekend: 4 x Q108 > 2 x Dual 1U Amplifiers.
