Re: Noise musicians: How do you release your work?
Bandcamp. Promote it if you want, make a run of 10 cassettes, give them away anyway, try to find a community where everyone listens to everyone elses music, do whatever. I'd also suggest aiming for the art scene (look up no-input music) rather than the noise scene. Unles you're into that. That's re...

Re: Help Identify This Vactrol?
Listening to the before/after recording the next morning... I really prefer the response of this excelitas vactrol. It obviously sounds a lot better. I'm glad I swapped these in, even if one is louder now.

Re: Help Identify This Vactrol?
These are unmatched excelitas non-matched excelitas.jpg If you use those for modulation you get this kind of result And if you use them for LPGs you get one that is louder unmatched mod.jpg And these are unmatched xvive... Very different character but they are much closer by default. non-matched Xv...

Re: Help Identify This Vactrol?
Update: Swapped out the vactrols on both cards. The response of the LPG is definitely much faster, snappy. I like it. However now the mod osc is louder (at equivalent setting) than the main osc is. Unsure of cause of this, may troubleshoot it later, or just live with it as the mixer renders it not m...

Re: Help Identify This Vactrol?
PerkinsElmir = Excelitas = Vactec. Same company. Vactec era normally says "Vactec" Perkins datasheets still picture vactrols with Vactec stamping. They bought Vactec. Excelitas was spun off of PerkinElmer in 2010 (https://www.excelitas.com/photonics-heritage) Thank you very much. Interesting inform...

Re: Help Identify This Vactrol?
Yes, those look like Perkins or Exelitas. The /2 ones you mentioned are dual versions. I found the Xvive ones (/2s) to have overly fast tails vs the old (proper) ones. Thank you kindly, sir. That's very helpful to know about the /2 as well. I guess I should use the non-/2 for the lpg so it is not o...

Re: Help Identify This Vactrol?
The numbers are batch reference or date code. This doesn't mean they are matched or within a certain tolerance. Why do you want to swap these in ? Are there specific vactrol-related issues to fix in your 208 ? I've built two or three 208r's over the last couple years, and have just noticed that my ...

Re: Help Identify This Vactrol?
Are they not PerkinElmer? Hmmmm.... I found this listing for PerkinElmer and the markings do look pretty similar: https://www.ebay.com/c/1131430437 Maybe you're right? Would that mean they'd be worth swapping into my LPG to see if they sound better? Also: Does anyone have any idea what the numbers ...

Re: Help Identify This Vactrol?
Xvive are visually different, image from SAmodular : Screenshot 2021-02-19 123908.png Thanks for the confirmation, Peake. I had figured they weren't Xvive, as they look different than the Xvives I used to build my 208r originally. Just still not sure what these might then actually be... :hmm:

Re: Help Identify This Vactrol?
Update: Actually there are some different numbers here.
-Two of the vactrols read "VTL5C3 1209 PRC"
-One reads "VTL5C3/2 1113 PRC"
-One reads "VTL5C3/2 644 PRC"
Is the second number related to some kind of pre-measured response value?

Help Identify This Vactrol?
Hey, guys. After reading the recent weedywhizz thread I remembered that I'd been planning to replace the Xvive vactrols on my 208r with Excelitas vactrols if I ever got the chance... And then I remembered something else: That I had a little package of vactrols that I bought some time in the past for...

Re: Buchla format cases | cables | knobs | PCBs & panels
Alrighty, then. Guess it's time for me to replace those vactrols, considering I use my easel on just about every track I make, ha.
Thanks, all.

Re: Your Favorite Acquisitions in 2020
Tree Audio Branch 2. Best channel I've ever had. Everything sounds amazing through it. Especially bass. And vocals, wow. I'd fill up a whole sidecar with them and run everything in my studio through them if my creative process was worth that kind of money to me or anyone else. Anyway, though, Branch...

Re: Recursive Machine Build Thread
Hm... I measure only 3v on the pads in my RM's power section. LED doesn't light. Can't see a bridge anywhere, I've double and triple checked all the components are where they should be. Time to troubleshoot... You ever figure this out? I'm having the same issue Reflowed the power section. Then I go...

Re: for trade (us): my korg arp 2600 for your ferrari or $10,000
Can I ask a serious question, though, to the people on this thread? I'm not sure how to phrase this but like... What does it "mean" that companies are reissuing high quality modern reproductions of classic synths, and yet even those modern reissues instantly skyrocket in value? The Korg 2600 was bei...
