LAST DAY -- new song WIP demo (Reich-inspired chiptune, soundscape)

Currently deep in the weeds working on this new song but I like where it is heading and thought I would share. The persistent drone is a combination of Quadnic, Vector Space, Quad VCA, and RE-20 Space Echo. The opening melodic synth is a TX7. When the drums kick it, two AY3 chiptune modules play ide...

Re: Drum Machine / Sampler / Sequencer / REAL drum sounds

You can't go far wrong with a MiniBrute, for sure, when it comes to learning the nuts and bolts of synthesis. However, 'real' drum sounds can only be had by actual drums, or samples of actual drums. You can sync the MiniBrute to your DAW and use that for drums, of course.

Re: Please have a listen and tell me if I’m on the right track

definitely a cool sound you're putting together there... my only suggestion would be to add a bit of vibrato/subtle pitch modulation to the synthesizers and maybe the guitar. the synthesizers are in such perfect tune, while the guitar has all the guitar-specific things related to intonation etc. th...

Re: Nerdsynth NerdSEQ - eurorack tracker/sampler

How do people integrate the NerdSeq in setups with other sequencers? How do you handle, say, pattern changes? Haven’t find the optimal way to sync Elektrons with program changes. Maybe it would just need to be done manually? I am using Pam’s as my master clock and Erica Synths MIDI <-> CLK; I set t...

Re: Please have a listen and tell me if I’m on the right track

Fun stuff Ben, keep making more music. You're on the right track. Thanks for listening! I liked the snare better in the rough mix. The reverb on v2 is a bit much. I'd consider burying the drums in the mix so they are there but not focused on. I'd also roll off the high end snap on the snare and mak...

Re: Signal flow for live modular performance

A couple of questions: 1. Do you tend to put reverb at the end of the chain so affecting the whole mix? or as an insert to only affect certain channels? I use three reverbs in my current setup. For my wavetable drone, there is a BOSS Space Echo pedal, I have a TC Electronic Hall of Fame on the snar...

Re: Self generating patches....tips and ideas ?

I made this patch based on the LFO section of Patch & Tweak . It creates a rather swirly chord that has notes pulsing and fading in and out; sounds rather cool! It uses 4 VCOs (SE Quadnic) tuned to a chord and feeding into a VCA. I take 3 trangle LFOs from the Modbox on 3 different phases and patch...

LOL, I use a Roland MC-500 and when I saw this thread I thought, Ooo this must be even older than the one I use =p. I didn’t know Roland was still using the MC (Micro Composer) designation.

Re: Mono or Stereo?

A lot of the venues in NYC that are not metal-centric run stereo to FoH. A couple of them even have engineers who care to get it right. I find it easier to maintain stereo and sum it to mono if needed, but can understand why someone would want to to the inverse. I have found, in general, more and m...

Re: Mono or Stereo?

I maintain stereo, but if FoH is mono, I have a small 4 in, 1 out mixer that I use for summing just in case. That is what I feed FoH if required. (I also do a lot of sub mixing even prior to that)

Thanks so much for listening and feeding back! The drums, well specifically the snare, has been the focus of my attention the past couple of days. This is the current state of affairs with the latest drum sound changes:

Forgot to mention, the gaps will probably be reduced or eliminated entirely. The reason they are there is because that’s where I had to change floppies!

Please have a listen and tell me if I’m on the right track

About a year ago I started toying with the idea of something I call the Soundtrack Machine: a way to perform with orchestral sounds, synths, and live guitars, without using a tablet or computer live. This started me down a rabbit hole to the current system which exists in three parts Part one is an ...

Re: Twisted Electrons MEGAfm

That certainly looks interesting! I have two AY3 modules and they get used a lot, especially the noise! With two AY3s and a multichannel sequencer like the NerdSeq you have everything you need to make chiptune; I use them more for flavor. This definitely has me interested, though...

As long as I don't exceed the allotted power, can I simply add a flying bus cable with additional outlets onto the end outlet of each row?
Yup, I have done the same thing with my uZeus.

Re: Question about Erica Synths MIDI to Clock v2 (syncing sequencers)

Update: the module arrived a few days ago and does precisely what I need! The only thing to keep in mind is that unless you are VERY quick, it’s best to have the NerdSeq end with empty patterns so that the song doesn’t loop back to the top before you have a chance to press Stop! The press and hold m...

Re: Distrokid experiences/alternatives?

I have been using CD Baby for digital distribution going on five years now and I don’t have any complaints aside from the fact that it doesn’t really seem to have as much of a supportive scene for underground and solo artists as Bandcamp. It’s also more expensive. But I love the ability of having do...

Re: Cell phone noise in microphones?

I live in Brooklyn, too. Cell interference is HORRIBLE in my building, we have cell antennas on the roof and I'm on the top floor. If I go to the lobby floor, the noise is gone. But in my apartment it's bad; I have my equipment on an isolation transformer with lots of RF beads on power and audio cab...
