Re: Normalling Eurorack

Worth noting that factory normalizing within the same module is reasonably common. Agree though that things are not set up for users to make custom normalized connections between modules

Re: Favorite 80s rack mount digital reverb?

The DRP20 was far more the Dynacord competition for the KT DN780, it's generally a somewhat cheaper than the KT not that they sound identical. DRS78 is really early and primitive, which is very interesting but won't deliver new or a wide range of reverbs DRP16 is 8 factory presets, I mean no paramet...

Re: Book recommendations on synthesis techniques / sound design

Agree with SOS synth-secrets. Your question leads into some bigger picture sorts of conundrums. There are some good texts like Strange focused more on modulars though applies to analog techniques in general. Then again there are far more techniques than that out there. Then again some technology of ...

Re: Are there any modules with knobs that click as they turn?

I've only encountered a clicking feel on encoders, the Oberheim Xpander was the first, discrete steps each with a click, the encoder keeps rotating but the value ends where it ends. Buchla 200e uses some pots, some encoders.

Regarding the old hi-fi reference, isn't that a multiturn pot?

Re: Behringer 960 Seqential Controller availability

Yeah, I snagged mine from Detroit when hunting for them. I'm sure it was intentional to get the easier less interesting modules out first so you buy them waiting for the ones you wanted most that are not in the US. Reminds me, years ago went to a dealer with new old stock Roland System 100M. At a ce...

Re: behringer 921 Oscillators

921 is a wider full featured VCO with a slower LFO mode, it's totally stand alone. You'd typically have one 921A VCO Driver driving 3x 921B. Behringer says you can drive more than 3. You can tune each differently but they respond to the same CV not 3 CVs. I'm sure in the day it helped to get a bunch...

Re: Banana Connector Grounding Question (Test equipment)

The idea is you need to have a common ground between things connected, it doesn't have to be on the same cable just as long as you can connect to the ground somewhere on each unit. The first one looks okay, if you have a separate banana you can extend the ground with a stackable banana to go to wher...

Re: Recursive Machine Build Thread

I wound up using long for everything, works but hard to say if it's an improvement without having tried the short ones. I sort of thought they might be easier with patchcords in. Again can't say for sure, I don't like the jacks, they look nice but are way too tight, I always feel I'm flexing the pcb...

Re: anyone have doepfer modules from the 90s?

I bought a basic system exactly as in the SOS but had an interface already. I thought I did in 96, but I keep scratching my head if I really did. I know I bought a Fenix at the end of 98 and knew the Doepfer well by then. Bought some more, Analogue Systems and Analogue Solutions and Doepfer, so I ha...

Re: Sources for LM301 - do you trust Ebay?

The simplest circuit I'm dealing with is an clock osc for a Roland System 700 S&H clone. The problem another user duplicated is it doesn't oscillate under 10 or so HZ when the circuit goes down to to 0.3HZ as expected with a reliable chip. In other words if I dial in say 0.3 or even 5hz no clock go...

Re: Sources for LM301 - do you trust Ebay?

Talking about bad results with several a nat semi LM301AN a few posts up, my preliminary comparison seems to be JR67ACE3 date code is unreliable. JR07ABE0 is reliable. So it's not an AN suffix issue per se. The simplest circuit I'm dealing with is an clock osc for a Roland System 700 S&H clone. The ...

Re: [AVAILABLE] Pharmasonic Series 700 synthCube kits

709 S&H I bought a bunch of LM301AN from Pharmasonic in the last year so I had an interest in figuring out if the issues were always that chip or maybe a bad date code? (answer:) those were fine. I swapped LM301AN chips in the 709. I got what sounds like identical results to appliancide with JR67ACE...

Re: Sources for LM301 - do you trust Ebay?

thanks! have not had time to do swapping (like between the batches). I'd like to see a nat semi chip work or not in a TI build that worked from the get go my NAT SEMI AN came from 2 orders, JR07ABE0, JR67ACE3 (seems to be at issue in what didn't function properly) my TI AP chips say J640A2 Run into ...

Re: Sources for LM301 - do you trust Ebay?

Well TI has owned Natsemi for yonks so those must be very old LM301s. My suggestion is there is marginal stability and that the Natsemi device is honking whereas the TI one isn't. Does it start working when you put a scope probe on it, where the capacitance kills the oscillation ? Thanks, the sourc...

Re: µTune for chords?

While some very simple use of chords is merely transposing the same chord anything more sophisticated is going to need a different interval relationship within the chord from chord to chord, not the same thing just transposed. The way to do that is obviously midi in of the entire chord with a channe...

Re: Sources for LM301 - do you trust Ebay?

Have not gotten to the bottom of this, which is why I'm posting. I've had hit and miss trouble with using Nat Semi LM301AN (DIP8). Some work, some do not in locations in my circuits. I've been building clones of Roland System 700 modules. Have found that replacing with TI LM301AP always works. So I'...

Vedic Scapes Powered Buchla Bus

I've got a couple unpopulated Buchla bus boards currently being used as passive.

I'm told by the previous owner they were from Vedic Scapes (not actually marked)

Curious if anyone has one populated and even better a BOM?

thanx

Re: CZ-101 hardware editor

Can't say definitively but I remember when new that universal patch dump apps had to establish 2 way connections and do something different than on other synths. Also one would think a popular synth would have remote something or others all over at least back in the day. Don't really call remotes or...
