Re: Reverse Patch Lookup Based On Owned Modules?

I've often found inspiration by rebuilding a preset from something else. If you have virtual analog or virtual modular soft synths you probably have hundreds of patches. The idea is to find an interesting one and see what makes it tick and (re)build it from what you have. It won't sound the same but...

Re: marion pro synth crashes with sysex

Can't really help other than confirm stuff. Yes it's a known issue. For those without hands on, the original unit was the MSR2 which has 2 slots for synth boards and contains the front panel, MIDI etc. Only the ASM board was ever built so you could buy the MSR2 with 1 or 2 synth 8 voice ASM synth bo...

Re: Band pass vs filter banks

Yeah, basically a few bandpass filters with more more parameters will cost more per band and probably takes up more real estate but is more flexible per band. After all a parametric EQ is sort of 3 or 4 bandpass filters with boost or cut.

Re: Favorite 80s rack mount digital reverb?

I'd agree with QRS, other than already pointed out they go for at least 10x or 20x the budget. Having lived back then, the low priced ones on the used market today sound kind of mediocre. I had a ART DR1 which was $1K back in the day but seems $200ish now. That was OK. Has a clever though not realis...

Re: Cheapest cassette deck with 3 head and pitch control

Basically 3 heads means higher end and varispeed was never a common feature unless you can figure out how to make it happen on a deck without it. So yeah, people selling them checked out know this and won't be cheap. The alternative is a seller not knowing about it which surely can be cheap but the ...

Re: What’s the difference between tuning and calibration?

Tuning is a user a user adjustment unless there is an issue. Obviously the idea is to make a scale note be the same pitch on your other gear and or to a reference like A=440 or whatever you want so long as all are tuned to your liking Calibration is by no means just tuning, it could very well includ...

Re: Any info on the new Old Crow modules?

Same here. Except for the Modular Addict items, have not heard much from him since like 2018? either. Bought and built the GX1 WSC, obviously a waveshaper but at present it only seems to be half rectifying or nothing. While building I realized there is no info on it online. Like what goes in.

Re: 261e - loose pots & dials - how to make them tight ?

Not sure what you mean by "dials". Can verify that the 261e debuted with long shaft not at all stiff turning pots that weren't secured to the front panel like many other synths. This clearly upset some people used to pots screwed to the faceplate. They didn't bother me but I can understand how it wo...

Re: Help me troubleshoot Pharmasonic 708

Just sharing since I'm troubleshooting too. I'm assuming the 2SC828 is the transistor in question. I bought a couple from Pharmasonic and will swap. My noise results were kind of unexpected, white gives me like -0.5v to +0.5v when I adjust the trim pot higher I get a cycling glitch. Pink gives me li...

Re: Buchla DIY for a first timer

Roman did a really big part of the legwork for cloning 200 series but they are not the least bit beginner DIY projects. Have a SAModular on order did not get one with parts available though I personally wouldn't buy a parts kit unless something exotic and matched is needed. I know Roman tried to use...

Re: Does Serge make sense for Noob?

When I started with Serge as my first modular synth in the mid 90s, STS was the only established and active modular builder. Obviously now there are a bunch of ways to go Serge let alone with other authorized or copying builders as well as bananas vs mini jacks. So characterizing is tough. The thing...

Re: Korg pe1000 midi

I'm sure the technique as a generalization is to provide the signal the key creates when pressed at the point the key provides it. You have a point in that the solina is divide down, but I don't think the goal is controlling the sound source, it's creating a keypress per key. But yes, I'm still fuzz...

Re: Korg pe1000 midi

Have not tried one but Doepfer has a DIY product people have used with the Lambda and I would think would work with a PE1000. I see though with a Solina the user had to DIY an interface board so I'm sure it needs some effort to get up and running. http://www.doepfer.de/mtc.htm

By harmonic control, do you mean you can also choose the level of specific harmonics (like the Verbos Harmonic Oscillator)? Verbos Harmonic is of course the Buchla 148 with a seriously improved user interface and apparently better wave shaping circuitry. I definitely see the point in that control o...

There are really 2 camps to this, the old school is to provide modulation options via physical switches, real pots. Yamaha CS-30 is an example not yet mentioned. The other way to go probably started with the Chroma and became famous with the Oberheim Matrix synths, that is to do lots of complex modu...

Re the LFO dilemma, I've got an all Verbos case, since the start I've been using a Disting often as an LFO.

I guess if you think of Verbos as sort of inspired by but different than Buchla one would use use a multi-envelope looping if you were using the mod osc from the complex osc dedicated

Is that number a count of used modules only? As I'm sure most know, shops sell new stock on Reverb. Also people build DIY stuff and sell it assembled which is out of the loop and not representing modules consumers decide to unload... I think I've bought mostly those and not actual second hand module...

The Serge does much more to the sound in boost mode than typical designs. Serge also has a point in that if one does not space the bands in octaves you have less big differences between the key of your octaves and say something around half way between. Have not used the Modcan though they have been ...
