Re: Oh no... (Paia Theremax)

According to the schematic, that's a 8.2v zener diode. Hard to tell with the shadows, but if it looks burnt at all I would replace it. You may have gotten lucky and it's just those 5 parts in the corner. I would swap them out and see what happens when you try to power it up.

Re: Oh no... (Paia Theremax)

That's the 100 ohm resistor right after the power supply in the schematic, so that's where your smoke likely came from. Check C1-C3 for damage.

Re: Oh no... (Paia Theremax)

Can you post pictures of the board? You could have gotten lucky and just burnt some of the power filtering parts, but I guess I wouldn't count on it.

Re: Synthcube

I've been ordering from Synthcube since they opened and have never had a problem beyond something being listed as in stock when it wasn't one time. They emailed me to notify me of the mistake and sent a revised order out as soon as I decided that I didn't want to wait for the manufacturer to send th...

Looks like this is his recommended part:

It's an MN3005 based unit, so the chip alone is worth over half of the asking price. I found this video demo of it:

Re: new tape echo from ECHOFIX!

Yep. Bot this no hesitate. Fuck the spring reverb issue. I have plenty anyway and the true tape SOS is a major plus. I haven't had a good tape unit that was reliable for decades so this is a no-brainer. Bought plenty of extra cartridges to last through the pandemic. They seem to have added real spr...

Re: Help me troubleshoot Pharmasonic 704

Happy to report that swapping R17 for 120k works great. I was able to calibrate both linear and expo modes to give unity gain at 5v. The gain knob knob still allows it to get way hotter than unity, which I am fine with. R4 would need to be a higher value if you wanted unity gain only using the gain ...

Re: Help me troubleshoot Pharmasonic 704

This is weird. I looked the PCB over carefully under the loupe and cleaned up a couple of tiny blobs that must have stuck to some rosin. It didn't look like anything was shorted, but a clean PCB is a happy PCB right? I fired everything up and was able to calibrate both linear and expo modes to give ...

Re: Help me troubleshoot Pharmasonic 704

Just finished building one of these, and I'm not thrilled with the documentation. The calibration procedure is obviously copy and pasted from the original docs, with no changes for +/-12v operation (let alone the fact that few techs have db meters sitting around). Having people search for and rely o...

Re: [AVAILABLE] Pharmasonic Series 700 VCO synthCube kits

I'm comparing a few notes with synthcube and Pharmasonic before I post my full build report. Is there anything people want to hear from this oscillator? Specific patches? I suppose the most interesting things with a given VCO are its sync behavior and how it responds to modulation, so that's what I ...

OK what power supply has 50 volt for the tube plates and and 12 volt for the heaters in sufficient amperage? , just curious

Re: Charge pumps and tubes...not sure where to start

Does he use charge pumps, as you say, or is he using transformers to step up these voltages in his designs? Curious. The TX-3 uses a 12VDC power supply, so there has to be some sort of internal switching power supply. The TX-1 uses 10-12VAC power supply, but I'm guessing that's just to make getting...

Charge pumps and/or step up transformers and tubes...not sure where to start

Eric has very generously posted the schematics for the TX-1 and TX-3 in the Metasonix forum with the totally understandable caveat that he will not be helping anyone build them. The core circuits are shown, but not the power supplies. TX-3 looks like it needs 12v and 50v, while the TX-1 uses +/-12v ...
