Re: Ladik love

With the S-411 Shaper, I wonder why the DC knob is only 0-5v and not -5 to +5v? Is there a reason for that? This might matter if you were using the Shaper with a rectifier.

I guess I’m thinking of a wavefolder whereas this is a waveshaper? Does Ladik have a folder?

Cool module.

Re: Why is the Mother 32 so expensive?

A while ago I priced the parts that Mother has, like I was going to build it from scratch. I figured M32 was expensive, but in relative (modular) terms it’s cheaper than going for separates. Even, “good value”. Of course, separates give you many more functions and flexibility. The cost came to $1,26...

Re: noob question: trigger delays for percussion?

I’ve got the Ladik S-187 on my list, but all of the above look good. Another option is a VC Envelope with delay, which might be more flexible for other duties too. For example these are interesting from the Ladik C-series: C-211 DADSR – delayed envelope http://ladik.ladik.eu/?page_id=921 C-217 DADSR...

Re: Building a rack for the first time, some questions.

I agree with the comments above about starting small by building one voice and adding some utilities. It was a key learning for me to understand that utilities are like the arithmetic of modular: you need to be able to invert, attenuate, offset, mix, add, multiply and wobble voltages. Otherwise wigg...

Finite state machine module - FSM?

Hello Wigglers, I’ve been toying with this idea for a while, so I thought I’d ask the collective wisdom to see if such a module existed... here goes... Is there a module that operates like a state machine, that is, it allows (say) 4 states to be defined, and it switches between those states based on...

Re: what to get next

In a single row like 84HP, I honestly don’t know if Maths is the right answer. I didn’t go that way, but others highly recommend it. Maths gives you 2x attenuverter channels and 2x looping AD slews, plus some logic and a mixer. If you want envelopes, its ADs can be used, but they’re not perfect enve...

Re: Moog releases 2.0 firmware for Mother-32

Can you now erase and create a new sequence without it locking up when there is a clock at the tempo input? Drove me nuts to have to unplug the tempo source every time. Possibly... parts of the code were described as a re-write, so perhaps you’re in luck. I’m hoping someone will make a movie of the...

Moog releases 2.0 firmware for Mother-32

Like it says, M32 gets a whole new firmware.

At last, the midi clock issue is addressed! And several new features for the sequencer. Here’s the news:

Looking forward to this.

Re: Comb filters - looking for recommendations

I would certainly search MW (and MG) because this has been discussed in several useful threads. Mungo d0 is a wonderful gadget by many accounts but you can achieve comb very cheaply otherwise. It’s just a short delay with feedback mixed in. I found this somewhere, I can’t recall the source (sorry): ...

Re: External oscilloscope?

I got myself a second hand Tektronix off of eBay. Works like a charm, but it’s huge and most of the features are probably stuff you don’t need if you just want to see waveforms etc I also bought an old Tektronix 2445a 'scope from eBay. It's one of the last analogue scopes before digital took over. ...

Wow these drum box ideas are neat, thanks to paranormal and foghorn for jumping in. I hadn’t seen the D-250 before, I like the beats you’re getting there, it sounds great. The Composer-N is very neat, it would made a great addition to this drum-box sequencer idea. I hadn’t looked at it earlier: S-61...

Hi Ladikvolk, recently there was some discussion in the euro forum about choices for a drum-machine-like sequencer. I posted a reply there, but I thought I’d share it here. My reply favours a Ladik solution, of course: it depends what you mean when you want something like a drum machine, but here’s ...

The O-410 sub-OSC looks cool! Here’s the link: http://ladik.ladik.eu/?page_id=2936 I also like how he uses the Drum Girl and Drum Boy as a really quick way to dial-up gate sequences. Maybe all one needs is to add S-090 Dual Skipper to create variation from Drum Girl, I’d like to try that: http://lad...

Great question, easily answered! Take a look at this rack - it’s a basic synth in 1x84hp (top row). Big fan of Ladik! I think that combo ^ would give 8 steps x2 CVs. To have 16 steps of CV would need another S-180 and also a switch for the clock, I think...?

Re: Module suggestions

I have a mk3, and that’s been my experience. I’m still right on the cusp of just selling it, because it doesn’t do anything too deeply, it’s laborious to figure out on the fly, and I rarely use it as a result. I think it’s true to say the Mk3 is the hardest to use. I have the Mk2 (16 functions) and...

Re: Can I replace my Mother-32 in less hp but keep the Moog sound?

Take a look at this rack - the top row contains a set of modules to cover Mother’s territory (but no sequencer). I was playing with this to compare what you get for your Moog dollars. I’m sure the budget is blown! The bottom row is various alternative filter options. I second getting a Dixie 2+ whic...

Re: Minimum modules needed to produce sound

I started with Mother-32 and it's still a great way to enter modular. It's relatively "good value" given you get a complete voice and sequencer, which you can build a larger system around. I would also look at the Make Noise 0-Coast, the Moog DFAM, the Bastl Softpop, and the Behringer Neutron, or on...

I also looked at the Shakmat SumDif which lets you do inversion, sum, difference, buffer, and side-chain. It has ABx2 so you have two channels. In the end I picked up these two, for the same price as one Shakmat: Erica Pico A Logic Sum Dif Min Max (inverter and buffer) https://www.ericasynths.lv/sho...
