Re: Buchla voltages...

Hi everyone! I have an Elysia Karacter distortion unit (rackmountable) which has a control voltage input. The control voltage input is listed in the manual as 0-5V. From what I read above, buchla is 0-10V. Can anyone tell me if its safe to run a Buchla CV into the unit? My thought is that if it was ...

Re: Village Melodies

Hi ArcDevilz. Yes, this record was all programmed and sequenced on the computer, so the 225e is triggering everything. Thank you everyone who has requested a run of vinyl. I have started looking into this. I would appreciate some advice here, maybe from someone out there who has experience in making...

Re: Village Melodies

Wow! Really happy to see the album getting some traction. Thanks to everyone who just posted. To answer the question about post techniques, forgive me if I'll be verbose, but I can't resist explaining my techniques! There is not a lot of post-production going on. I did get it professionally mastered...

Re: 225e Internal Bus Problems

I don't think its possible to override the velocity information on the MIDI bus. In fact, I had to take out my 292e and flip the dip switches the other day as I was getting some unwanted velocity by way of MIDI.

Re: 225e Internal Bus Problems

Yes, still necessary to connect 281e to 292e, though I believe that MIDI velocity values will still go directly to 292e over the MIDI bus. Make sure that your paired 281e and 292e are on the same bus, you have to set dip switches to match. Regards your second question, it sounds like you have two MI...

Re: 225e Internal Bus Problems

Indeed, the answer lies in the dipswitches on the back. These determine which bus the module is set to. The 225e is then used to select which MIDI channel to assign to each bus. So: dipswitches assign bus, 225e assigns MIDI channel. You will need to fiddle with the dipswitches to work out which conf...

Re: Buchla Bongos????

After more than two years of owning Buchla, I finally achieved a bongo sound I enjoyed. I trawled through the internet looking for a video on how to achieve it, but only came up with the video above, showing how to do it in Eurorack! It may seem strange given that its such a typical buchla sound, bu...

Re: Where should I start?

I agree with ArguZ that the easel is the way to go. For your budget, it fits perfectly, and you end up with a whole instrument. But here is some more food for thought. To me, Buchla is about experimentation, and for me that currently means microtonality. The 223e allows you to programme in your own ...

Re: Clocking Buchla question

Yes, you will have to use one of the 252e outputs as the master clock. The intervals do not have to be even, as there is a knob to adjust where in the cell the pulse starts. Cells can also be subdivided, and even this can be delayed within the cell. My feeling is that the 252e has no clock input as ...

Re: Buchla Noob Audio Out Questions

You should be able to connect the 206e directly to your mixer. Apparently you can just use the slightly smaller 3.5mm eurorack male jacks into Tinijax sockets, though I’ve never tried. Don’t do it the other way around though! I just make my own cables, which if you are getting into Buchla I highly r...

Good choice with the 259e. I think its really the most versatile of the e series oscillators.

Re: Are Buchla Oscillators quantized?

Hi there!

The bass tone is the mod osc from a 261e. The two treble tones are the complex oscs from two 261es.

Just my 2c, but the mod osc from the 261e sounds really nice as an audio osc. Its actually a favourite, especially to run through a filter. Fattest square wave I have heard.

Re: Are Buchla Oscillators quantized?

The 200e can also be made to track accurately over CV. What's more, its reproducible and can even go micro-tonal. Here is a pentatonic gamelan scale played from the 252e. The CV output goes from 252e directly into the CV input of the oscillators. Not only did I want to show that Buchla can track acc...

Re: Buchla System purchase 2020?

Okay, so I’m doing my advance purchase research and have been watching all the Buchla videos up on YouTube studying all of the modules that they are using in a patch that inspires me. I couldn’t for the life of me find a couple modules and finally found they were made by Studio h. I go to their web...

Re: Buchla Newbie - cabinet config question

If you are getting the triple morphing filter, you may not need the 267e, and you could get a source of uncertainty instead. Likewise, you don’t really need two preset managers. Ditching one would allow another oscillator, for example

Re: 250e / 251e / 252e sequencers sending CV !!

The 251e has encoders that put out pretty accurate semitone voltages at 1.2V/octave. It is also possible to adjust in cents for microtonal (press the encoder while turning). I don't have a 252e, but I hear that it is the same as the 251e in this regard. The 250e has potentiometers instead of encoder...

Re: 259e & 261e - never stay in tune - anyone advise ?

The 200e oscillators track well over the MIDI bus in 12TET. The cv in, on the other hand, has an attenuator, which tells me that tracking exactly one octave per 1.2 volts wasn’t a priority. However, Even over cv, they can be made to track. I use a tuning device to define the notes I want, and then w...

Re: 259e & 261e - never stay in tune - anyone advise ?

Hey Spezial Tuning is a well known issue. What are you sending pitch info from? These oscillators are well known to be difficult to tune using the CV. Over the MIDI bus, they track just fine. When I am using CV tuning, generally it will work, but the only device I have to send control voltage from i...

Village Melodies

The Sonny Downs Quartet presents Village Melodies. The Buchla 200e features on every track. The album is an ode to the 291e, which is the source of all the percussion. The other instruments used were a Sequential Prophet 6 and Elektron Digitone. A number of the tracks also feature micro-tonality. I'...
