Re: 291e Flaws?

Listen to Doug re: attenuating the input of using the feedback mode. I should say I never attenuate the input when just using the 291e as a regular band pass filter

Re: Buchla love/hate

Ha! Good we don’t live in a command economy where there is only one modular format to choose from! Enjoy your serge! :guinness: I look at Buchla and see only clever and thoughtful design choices in the interface. Definitely don’t want pulses or DC in my audio chain. And the places where you may wish...

Re: 291e Flaws?

Thanks for listening! 1) Input/Output gain: I know this patch involved feedback loops in the 291e, which by its nature would distort the circuit and result in unusually high output gain, but do any of you users feel the need to use attenuation regularly when using the 291e? In the input or output? 2...

Re: Buchla love/hate

Still love it. I agree with the comment above that other synths I have used have a more "love/boredom" feel to it. I think for the experimentalist, the Buchla interface is close to perfect. The banana for CV and minijax for audio format I think is unsurpassed. There are some bugs in the implementati...

Re: Syncing 251e/252e on preset change

This is a timely thread, I was just trying to incorporate a preset change into my 252e/251e patch. The bad news is that despite thinking this through carefully, I was unable to achieve it. Let me first discuss the syncing of the two modules, as this has come up, and needs to be dealt with first: To ...

Re: Buchla 251e demo thread

The love affair with the 251e continues. First, a video showcasing the interaction of the 251e with the 252e. The 251e plays a simple arpeggio. The 252e controls the wave shape of the oscillator. Every six cycles, there is an added note on the 251e, which alters the position of the accent. Second, a...

Beautiful photos ArcDevils. Thanks for posting.

Regarding a vinyl release Trick... the threshold for printing vinyl now is quite low. Many people offer lathe cut vinyl, which can be as little as one record, and even pressed records can be ordered in batches of 50.

Re: Looking for some specific mixer/interface combo

Well, you can do anything really, including sending any of the groups or the aux sends to your interface. Basically, you have 8 outs on that mixer IN ADDITION to the main mix bus out, which can be assigned to any channel. I use the group outs for my effects, so I can decide, at the push of a button,...

Re: Looking for some specific mixer/interface combo

Welcome to the world of hardware mixing! The Yamaha mixer you mentioned would probably fit your bill. However, when you say that all channels go from the mixer to some external compressor/saturator, are you talking about each channel having an individual compressor, or are you talking about mix bus ...

Re: Buchla 251e demo thread

Thanks Doug for posting your excellent video! That is one of my favourite Buchla demos out there. I wanted to make another demo using polymetric sequences, ie. sequences of different length which creates shifting interactions between different melodies. Rather than presenting it as a demo, I just de...

This is an interesting thread. I was in a similar boat to yourself recently, having had my first mastering experience at the start of the year. I was quite happy with the result. I also struggled in the beginning. Here is what I do: Before you put down your final mix, try and listen to it on as many...

Buchla 251e demo thread

Dear Buchla Wigglers! I recently came into possession of a 251e. It has quickly become my favourite module. Nested loops triggering the lower sections, millivolt tuning capability, polyrhythms (yes... for those of you who don't own one, you can select note durations of ANY interval up to 1/64... mea...

How do you MIDI clock the 251e?
[/quote]

Press the tempo knob until it says "clo". The beautiful thing is that each section can be assigned to the midi clock or have its own clock. The 251e is such a deep sequencer.

Re: suffer this Noob Buchla sequencer q

Corkyburger just wrote a description of drone generation and several hours of examples here: https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=235071. The technical description is excellent. In essence, I think this is the way: fill up a sequencer with voltages. For your pitch information, it i...

Re: Help me fill the last space

If it was me, probably another oscillator so you can get some chords going. My other choice would be a 251e. I recently got one and am enamoured if it’s depth and possibilities. Works a treat being clocked off the 252e and having the rhythms playing against one another. Expect some videos of this so...

Re: Buchla 225e and 261e

Just my 2c, but if there was a house-fire, and I had to build my synthesizer from scratch, I would still go with e despite the downsides mentioned above. 1) The preset manager. If you intend to get some e series sequencers, and they are a sheer delight to use, the preset manager vastly expands an al...

Re: Buchla oscillators

There is no audible aliasing in the 261e. As far as I understand, it has an analogue wavefolder. Also, if you like fat and buzzy, the mod osc in the 261 is actually a very beautiful oscillator. Most synthesizer manufacturers are proud to offer a few different waveforms on their primary oscillator. T...

Re: Buchla 225e and 261e

The internal bus will only send MIDI from the 225e information to the principal oscillator. The modulation oscillator needs a control voltage to have its pitch defined. Not sure what you mean by external busses. If you mean the control voltage, the oscillators do not track accurately at 1.2V/oct in ...

Thanks! I've been messing around with some scales just tuning by ear to youtube videos haha. I'm checking out that page now. Any chance you have similar resources for the rhythms you're using? Rhythm is not too hard to achieve. Its just 7/8 throughout, no changes. The demo was all done on 200e. The...

Re: Buchla 200e goes microtonal part 2

I haven't been particularly interested in microtonal tuning but this sounds very cool. Nicely done! I have no Buchla but I have a few quartertone settings on a quantizer that are going to get some deeper exploration thanks to this. Cheers! I recommend the Xenharmonic 24edo page. Not all quartertona...

Buchla 200e goes microtonal part 2

Hi everyone! I believe this may be a new technique. I am using the 251e as a MIDI quantizer to make a quartertonal scale. The 251e has millivolt level adjustments, which is adequate for microtonality. There are some tricks and difficulties using this method. Firstly, 200e oscillators generally do no...

Re: Buchla voltages...

Hi everyone! I have an Elysia Karacter distortion unit (rackmountable) which has a control voltage input. The control voltage input is listed in the manual as 0-5V. From what I read above, buchla is 0-10V. Can anyone tell me if its safe to run a Buchla CV into the unit? My thought is that if it was ...
