Re: Leaving the rack: Drone synths!
I owned the Lyra 8 for a few months. It is quite something. Definitely not underwhelming. Extraordinary synth, but one a large range of which I find gets old quickly. I came to imagine that I could do what I love about it *and much more* with a Hydrasynth desktop, so I sold it; haven't been able to...

Re: Matrix mixer use and abuse
Great stuff. I started this thread because, while I know the usual suspects as far as applications go, I don't do a whole lot because I had a single 138m and always have needed it to do CV mixing. But I just bought one of those massive low gain dubmatrix's and want to experiment with matrix-focused ...

Re: Matrix mixer use and abuse
simple cv routing , shines on drones where minor changes to tuning can be made to multiple oscillators with side by side knobs, or to send kbd cv & mix modulations in different amounts crazy cv routing, feeding a channel back in directly & feeding another thru a wavefolder or filter audio routing, ...

Re: Leaving the rack: Drone synths!
I've used a drone commander and enjoyed that, and as of late own a Lyra-8. I like the Lyra a lot, because while it "sounds like the Lyra," that sound is a far and wide one. Lots of variation, ie. I don't expect it to get old quickly, or not be useful in many tracks well into the future. Drone King s...

Instruo Tanh. Cheap and transformative. Breathes life into the simplest of sources.

Thanks everyone, really great stuff. Experimentalism is about more than just composition, eh? This explains why I am a misunderstood genius.

Looking for crappy music
Maybe a clickbait title, but coming from a recording engineering background, I've gotten so incredibly bored with things being done "the right way" tone wise that I'm really craving records that have bad production, or go in alternative / experimental routes with it. I want to hear things that don't...

Re: My pinnacle
Appreciate you taking the time. It doesn't feel thin to me, but that's the aesthetic I go for, so totally. Compressed and overdriven within an inch of its life. I didn't listen to electronic music at all at the time. Or know anything about theory. I was just like hey, I can make a whole record in th...

Lyra-8 power issue
Just got my first Lyra-8 and noticed that if the power cord gets tapped it'll flicker on and off. I thought it might be a short in the cable at first, but what's really going on is that the power barrel and socket are loose upon one another. It's like one is too small / big for the other, but just e...

My pinnacle
I don't make music anymore. Very much into sound art, but I left music behind for visual art and other artforms a long time ago. That said, I feel like I did my best work when I was stupid and had no idea what was going on back in 2003 or so. Mixing? What's that? Here is a 1500watt PA. This is it. A...

Re: My first standalone, drone-specific build. Howabout yours?
Love the build and demo thelowerrhythm! Really appreciate you putting in the time considering the stress of preparing to teach. Also agree that gogmagog's build looks like a great droner. Ribbon controllers? Yes Please! I've been reducing my euro gear lately to build up and focus on Loudest Warning...

Re: Notation and Timing
This is a really good topic to explore. For some of my work I play by feel (or record by feel, I should say). But for other projects I'll just set time limits and record everything at the same length. Working on a collection of 3 minute drones based on this 84hp drone machine I built. Never really t...

Re: My first standalone, drone-specific build. Howabout yours?
I like that sound at the beginning, what was that, an E520? :hihi: But seriously, I like your synth, especially those subs, nice choices in there. And I really appreciate the overview you give the York Modular modules, not enough attention given to those IMO. So the funny thing is I like to postula...

My first standalone, drone-specific build. Howabout yours?
Hello there. I've since completed this synth (adding the third voice I mention wanting to add in the video), but it'll take me a while to demo it because the term is about to start and I'm teaching four classes and pissing anxiety. That and I'm not much of a video person. :foul: In the meantime I wa...

Re: Where's the stereo Erbe-Verb? Is it Mimeophon? Other options?
Isn't the AJH Finaliser a stereo verb? I believe some of the other features are mono only though, which is kind of annoying.

Never had any problems with ye olde "can't learn a module because I have too many" thing, personally. It's good advice, but maybe not as universal as suggested.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if this was affecting them or not. Thought maybe they were getting ready to release a bunch of new stuff and just discontinue everything.

What's up with Pittsburgh?
Apologies if this is already discussed / widely known, but I went to FINALLY buy a second Primary Oscillator and they can't be found anywhere. Then I noticed a lot of Pittsburgh stuff can't be found. What's going on with them?
