Re: DIY Niceties for the Casio CZ-101

I would love to dig into the FM vs PD differences and the mathematical elegance of the Casio approach. I still doesnt grasp the FM vs PD difference apart than PD is a subset of FM... Any inspired links digging into that welcome. Also, I was thinking in getting the Virtual CZ... the plogue guy has su...

Re: OPERA ROTAS, a DIY mutant drum machine BUILD THREAD

Wow, all of the above sounds great! Any reason for going with 6n138 instead of 6n137? Edit: the reason I’m asking is that I’ve seen several recommendations for 6n137 over 6n138, e.g. https://forum.mutable-instruments.net/t/midi-input-with-optocouplers/5255 Happy (better) new year I ordered the 8, a...

I don't have much height reserve though, since I gave mine an acrylic front cover plate limiting the free space 01IMGP3717.jpg Cutting and drilling that plastic material is definitely not my favorite pastime  , and it will never be. In any case all joystick circuits are pretty much the same. You can look at the befaco version too if you want additional datapoints

I would go for homebrew vactrols. Any tutorial on how to match them?

Re: 4MHz oscillator for YM2151

It´s way simpler to put an external 4mhz crystal than use another chip to divide the arduino clock. Normally 4mhz crystal pair well with 2x27pf, but 20 or 25pf should work too Look for schematics of people using the 2151 and copy the circuit. You can even copy from different yamaha chips than runs a...

Re: 4MHz oscillator for YM2151

You can pretty much use any 2 pin 4mhz crystal for it, just go ebay and get the cheapest one.

And yes, you could also use one microcontroller pin clocked at 4mhz, it should run ok in theory too

Normally you need 2x27pf ceramics to stabilize the crystal too, it´s all in the schematics

Re: New $23 ESP32 audio board on Kickstarter

Looking great. To me the thing that ESP32 needs to take off is code, not so much the hardware. There´s almost no audio code / examples out there. When you have the easy/accessible code, then you will want to go for the hardware. In any case your board seems sexy and functional. Find some programmers...

You use the classic 6n138 optocoupler circuit and connect the output of the circuit to arduino pin D0 (RX)

Re: OPERA ROTAS, a DIY mutant drum machine BUILD THREAD

Ok, more updates. Mixed news. It happens that for you to update the code you need a .hex file to upload to your bluepill via the st link v2. Easy. Platformio is producing .bins intead of .hex, hence it were not working. There´s some guides on how to signal platformio to compile the .hex too, but are...

2164s vs OTAs (13700) what are the differences?

Sometimes looking at schematics I see OTAs and other times they use 2164 VCAs acting as the same function or at least similar. I understand that basicaly have the same functionality, isnt? Could you tweak one circuit to use the other? Are there any significant differences? When to use one and when t...
