Re: Buchla Easel Command Module 208C

The manual reflects the spirit of the music easel, it's not for everyone.

Re: Buchla Easel Command Module 208C

Foxtone lives, they said they should have more in 90-110 days. Love to hear about how ordering directly from Buchla works out.

Re: Buchla Easel Command Module 208C

Same here, they helped me upgrade my Skylab and then stopped responding. I asked them if they had an Easel Command and haven't heard back. They are in Minneapolis, so I hope they're okay.

Re: 267e vs. 266e?

I have both. I picked the 267e for a Skylab and then subsequently coalesced a Skylab + LEM3 into a 201e-18, and in doing so, added a 266e. I think the 267e was the right choice in the Skylab (filters + S&H), but it's nice to have the 266e, I use both now.

good news

Final update: after reseating nearly everything involved in the audio signal path, and upgrading all the software on the Macbook, the Easel seems to working again, so Buchla gremlins. Be very careful with the new things and your Program Card slot though, that's the lesson I relearned, phew.

I have to post this because you're all going to have to laugh at me. I'd actually fried my Easel when I wrote that, I did it installing the posts that hold the card doubler off the chassis, I'd never installed them and it seemed like time. So when I wrote that I had recently re-familiarized myself w...

I mean that I love my strange skylab I assembled and I continue to learn things about what it can do every day. I have no idea either why that post is on this thread, it doesn't make sense to me either, carry on.

I'm sure it's more insidious than that that. The tempting warnings are an inspiration to go beyond the label, but they mean what they say, it's unclear what will happen, but it might be fun.

Right, the truth is that if you pull them out at angles, you'll probably get away with it, so if you accidentally dislodge a side of your Aux Expander or iProgram card, immediately turn off your Easel, never ever think, oh, I should now plug it all back in, that's what will fry it.

It's an okay MIDI controller, a 223e or a real Thunder is in another world, don't let the shape of the keys confuse you. I have one, but I also have a Skylab, so it's mostly in my, things I would consider throwing in the backpack after the LinnStrument. ;-)

The manuals say clearly not to insert any of the new things (AUX Expander, iProgram, or Card Doubler) with the Easel powered on. I suspect retro program cards wouldn't harm anything, they're just a bunch of resistors.

I don't quite know what to make of those warnings either, I take it, it would do exactly what it says, give you a pulse there, but possibly interfere with the sequencer, probably because it's dropped on the same bus as the easel's pulse.

They must share common ground; the new Easels have a black banana on the side as does the back of a new skylab.
