Re: A Madlibs-like Modular Synthesizer?

Hm, the Assimil8or doesn't look like the best choice for this to me. Seems to be rather resampling-focused. You'll want something which has CV over file choice... I'd probably get a bunch of TipTop Ones, or the VPME QD. Then, you'd need a bunch of random CV sources for said CV over file choice inpu...

Re: Calling all Roland Jupiter 4 owners

I had mine in for a complete overhaul a few years back. Old gear needs its care and feeding! Shockingly, my battery wasn’t leaking. Can you share your service tech? I'd love to have mine restored. Sure. I had it done by Mike at https://www.borishelectronics.com/ Good guy and definitely knows his vi...

Re: Roland Jupiter 4 cv/gate modification VS Arpeggiator

So what kind of signal can be sent into the "EXT Clock In" jack in the back and what does it clock? ( Besides a Roland CR 78) It controls the timing of the arpeggiator and/or the VCF modulation. You need to have the switch set to ext for the function you want to externally trigger. It’s v-trig styl...

I like the iPad as an external Eurorack sequencer. A zillion cheap sequencing and drum machine apps that you can MIDI out to a MIDI->CV module.

No tax from PC when I order but I still came out ahead including customs. Probably because the dollar was stronger in February.

Re: Expert Sleepers ES-9 USB Audio Interface

I think this may be a problem with Windows turning off the USB ports to save power. There are numerous reports & solutions for this, try a search for Windows turning off USB ports & try the solutions. thanks! But is that also the case in desktop PCs? I thought these power saving things are only pre...

Re: Recommend me a travel synth that fits my very special needs :D

The only issue with the Continuumini is it is ever so slightly too long for most carry on luggage (i.e. roller boards). Mine will fit at an angle in a pinch, but is not optimal for protecting it while optimizing storage space. I guess if you do not travel with clothes or like accessories, then it w...

Re: Rabid Elephant NATURAL GATE

That’s completely weird and I’d ask for an explanation. The heavier cable is one of the impressive points of the RE build quality and it’s not cool that it’d be missing. I can’t imagine RE skipping this - at all. So wondering if someone at your retailer swiped it.

Re: Lighting the rack without ruining the vibe

Getting close to what I wanted. This is a couple of cheap seven dollar LED pin spots mounted high up at the far end of the room lighting my rack: DDE10855-E346-4B18-895F-426A97E0CA8E.jpeg There was a lot of light bleed so I masked off much of the light to get it focused just where I wanted. I’ll pro...

I think there was one last Knobs run with just a few leftovers? But they’re alluded to a similar / better utility module coming soon.

Re: Lighting the rack without ruining the vibe

I’ve always wondered about the vibe. Why do electronic musicians want to play in the dark? No other performers do. It made sense when we just turned on a tape deck and let it run, but when there is a human in the mix, the audience deserves to see what is going on. What we are doing is at least as i...

Re: Lighting the rack without ruining the vibe

So I tried the headlamp idea - it would work for playing live, and it’s great for moments like installing modules when I need to see well, but for chilling at home in the studio, not so good. The headlamps I got were little LED’s that clip to my reading glasses. Playing with them and moving them aro...

Re: Akai s6000 in 2020?

High end hardware samplers are where analog synthesizers were in the early 90s in being undervalued. No joke! I was tossing old papers and found the receipt for the Jupiter-4 I got for $200 in the 90s. Obviously a little more valuable now. I’m not sure if something like a sampler will have the same...

Re: Recommend me a travel synth that fits my very special needs :D

While you can program Norns, there are a zillion apps for it already. I took mine + the Grid on an overseas trip (along with a Microfreak) and was recording tons of really cool ambient stuff without programming and without plugging in (Norns has a battery built in and Microfreak runs fine of a USB ...

Monome Norns + Grid? Yes it has a screen but it isn’t really necessary once you have something loaded up. You can DIY the Norns. I've been checking out Norns and the controllers every once in a while for the past few years(?). They seems really cool, but at that price I don't think I'd get everythi...

The NG has lovely control and behavior over the dynamics , but it’s not going to sprinkle fairy dust on anything. I think I used the exact words "fairy dust" for what it has that other LPGs don't, once :hihi: I think the “fairy dust” here is the way the interface allows you to control things with e...
