Re: Yahoo Groups Archive -- Serge, Modcan, Wiard, Cyndustries, CGS

I know this is the wrong forum, wrong synth format and probably a bit cheeky.
Do you have an archive of the old Ciat Lonbarde Yahoo Group? It was called nabra-users.
Thanks!

Re: The 2020 Show Us Your DIY Builds Thread!

I made a double Wasp filter in a stomp box case this year. IMG_0680.jpg It runs on 12v, via a 12v regulator from a 15v DC adapter. It has a 4x gain stage at the input to add distortion before the filter(s). This is the first project I've taken from a schematic to breadboard to strip board, rather th...

Re: 4MHz oscillator for YM2151

Okay, I've figured it out. Here's the code for using Timer2 to generate a 4MHz square wave: const int freqOutputPin = 11; // OC2A output pin for Arduino Uno / Nano const byte ocr2aval = 1; // Reset on 2nd iteration, 4Mhz clock void setup() { // set the output pin to match the timer output pinMode(fr...

Re: 4MHz oscillator for YM2151

If speed is what your after, you might consider to use the STM32-Blue Pill Thanks, I'm trying to use what I have and I have 3 Arduino Nanos (and an Uno for development) at the back of a drawer. I also have a Teensy 3.6 if I need some more speed. Reading around, I think I can use one of the 3 timers...

Re: 4MHz oscillator for YM2151

Thanks both. I think I'll need the full speed of the Arduino for what I have in mind!
I've found a couple of YM2151 projects on Github, so I'll check out their schematics.
Cheers.

Re: 4MHz oscillator for YM2151

Thanks all. @SphericalSound Normally you need 2x27pf ceramics to stabilize the crystal too, it´s all in the schematics Do you mean in the schematics for the YM2151 or for the crystal? I have a couple of PDFs for the YM2151, giving the register details, etc. but they both omit the timing crystal part...

4MHz oscillator for YM2151

I've bought a Yamaha YM2151 8 operator FM synth chip (from about 1985 originally) and the matching YM3012 DAC for it. I plan to use these with an Arduino, op-amp and opto-isolator to make a FM MIDI synth. The YM2151 needs a 4MHz crystal oscillator to operate. These are outside of my knowledge! Can a...

I use Atom at work and home and others that I work with use VS Code. Both allow you to open directories of files as “projects”, while still being lighter weight than a fully fledged IDE.

Re: [AVAILABLE] Fourses Tarp PCBs

The BOM here: http://fluxmonkey.com/pcbDocs/foursesTarp.htm
has a mistake.
The ".1uF" capacitor should be 1uF (105).

Re: Yamaha CX5M

I've been working on getting the Yamaha CX5IIM-128 and CX7M-128 music computers working with the openMSX emulator. I've made good progress, so far I have both CX5IIM-128 and CX7M-128 machine definitions which can: 1. Run both the SFG-05 ROM software (CALL MUSIC) and the YRM-502 FM Voicing Program (C...

Can you tell us which capacitors you used on your range switches, what type of switches you used and how they are wired up, please?

Re: Music you sort of get but can't get get into

For me it’s Radiohead. They are probably the most critically revered band of my generation but to me it all sounds like pastiche. The first album is 90% bobbins, with one popular song that has thom yorke mewling over the top. The bends is four years too late grunge with mewling. OK Computer is overw...

Re: stripboard tips and tricks

I really like the “solderable breadboard” type of protoboard by Adafruit and others. It’s better quality than the typical strip board with through plated holes, and made from FR4 rather than phenolic paper. The only downside is that you can’t do a very compact layout, but you can always turn to sing...

Re: Specs of a Eurorack Clock Signal

There really isn't a specification for a Eurorack Clock Signal. It will be a pulsewave of some description. In essence, it doesn't matter what the clock module outputs, what matters is how the module receiving the clock signal interprets it.

Re: [AVAILABLE] Fourses Tarp PCBs

My PCBs arrived today :tu: I’m going to wire the “mistake” to ground to matche the Eurorack module where (according to the manual) the upper bound of the first oscillator is connected to positive 12v and the lower bound of the last oscillator is connected to negative 12v. In Tarp this will correspon...

Re: Please help me choose my first oscilloscope.

I have a Hantek DSO5102P Digital Oscilloscope, which I think works well. I don’t have any experience with other oscilloscopes, apart from the ancient analog one I used when I did my A level electronics 25 years ago!

Re: OR gate mod for pulses

The ubiquitous 1n4148 should suffice.
It would be easy to desolder the banana plug and add a diode between the wire and banana plug.
You might need a pull down resistor to ground after the diode, though to ensure that the off state of the signal is 0v.

Re: OR gate mod for pulses

You could make a passive box with diode ORs in it. e.g. a 1590 stompbox enclosure with 3 banana ins to 1 out, with all 3 being diode ORed together.

I have an Intellijel OR in my Eurorack, for precisely this kind of patching.
It's the same circuit, so you could just crib that module for ideas.
