Re: 5u - the next trend?

I sometimes wonder if I am the only person who uses 5U who manages to get into the same amount of spaghetti patching mess with knobs obstructed as I do with smaller format modulars! nope. the difference is with 5u you don't also need to be holding tweezers as you snake your arm through the cables...

Re: 5u - the next trend?

doubtful. trends are driven by a variety of factors, but the economics will likely prevent it if nothing else. 5u stuff is just more expensive, and trends will never be driven by the perception of quality alone. it does have the nostalgia factor working for it, and i bet if moog released individual ...

Re: Sputnik 244 - manual? help?

yep, the ASR is notoriously janky. this is one possible workaround, i have it and works great. the manual triggers, not so much. https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=212155 as is mentioned above, the VCA are just for scaling CV instead of audio. think automation of a manual CV atte...

Re: Patch cables. To DIY or just buy?

Dotcom uses Mogami? They don’t mention it on their site. Probably not to alienate past purchasers. Like they didn't mention when they started using Switchcraft enclosed jacks instead of the cheap Chinese open frame garbage they started out with. can't knock a company that quietly progresses upward ...

Re: Buchla 252e - Thoughts and general use ?

Perhaps it's more a question of give and take. There are so many generous and knowledgeable folks here, there is no shortage of folks willing to help new users. But doing even a modicum of homework before posting or before responding to others' posts is simply a respectful acknowledgement of other f...

Re: When to sell off modules?

unless a module is some sort of super-rare piece that you're likely never to find again then i don't see a reason to hang on to it - if you regret ditching it later that can be rectified easily enough. sure buying new and then selling used = financial hit (unless you're talking STS Serge), but buyin...

Re: Random*Source Shipping/Contact?

I've definitely had contact with them. Communication is not their strongest suit but they will reply eventually. I feel bad pestering them because they seem to have a hard time managing communication and development. We've had a back and forth since July regarding the LVCOs and several people are i...

Re: Baby's first Serge: STS Animal vs. R*S La Bestia II

STS : It's probably easier to find some used models at a decent price. The Animal is powerful, but I'd recommend the Creature/Audio Interface setup if you can live without a waveshaper. Having a ResEQ and DUSG (over regular oscillators) makes it even more fun and flexible than the Animal in my humb...

Re: Does Serge make sense for Noob?

Actually that raises a really good point. Maybe the answer to the original question is a question - what does the noob want from their modular experience? Do you want the want the atomic level and sometimes arcane nature of patch programmability? Do you want the widest palette of options to choice f...

Re: Does Serge make sense for Noob?

I still like the term "atomic" in describing the Serge experience vs some of the other formats. It's a format which really allows you to operate at a very low level, but yet that same degree of granularity allows you to work in an as complex a fashion as you want. And that's the difference as I see ...

How about XL length boats Seconded, and with attachment points to handle R*S 4x4 as well as STS Shop and M-class panels. Possibly an extra mounting point for R*S MTA distro board as well. Second the idea for extra mounting point for the R*S MTA distro board, especially since it looks like the side ...
