A brand new LM3080 from Retroamplis (the Thonk order did not arrive, unfortunately) fixed it! Clean waveforms in the audible range now. Next up the calibration process. Thanks again for the help!
No worries, glad you got it working!

Re: [Build] Dannysound - Cali Oscillator (258 clone)

Hi can you post some pics of the PCBs? Is the kit all from Thonk? As there are quite a few fake 3080 chips knocking about, could be causing these types of issues. The ones from Thonk should be fine though.

Re: [Build] Dannysound - Cali Oscillator (258 clone)

Yeah the Sine trim will affect pitch but it won’t affect the V/Oct tracking. If you’re still having problems please email me, don’t seem to be getting notifications from MW anymore!

Re: [Build] Dannysound - EN129 Analog Thru Zero Oscillator

The LFO switch was not engaged. It was a bass tone but well within in hearing range. Hm sadly I don't think i can probe pin 13, at least not with an oscilloscope. Was using my audiocard and bitwig for oscilloscope. Hello sorry for being late to this, I’m trying to learn German and get documentation...

Waz V/oct works from 0V to 10V. Middle C on most keyboards with 88 notes is 5V. You can use the master tune trimpot to set the Oscillator to middle C when the coarse and fine tune controls point to 12 o’clock or whatever position you prefer. Ensure the LFO switch is out! The master tune trimpot als...

oldsoulsound I’ve checked against the ones we have here and they all work like that, so everything is correct. The tolerance of the transistor that controls the waveshape varies so the range of adjustment accounts for that. If you want to really fine tune the control you could try changing R1 from ...

It could be that the WS_TRIM pot needs a few more turns. Try monitoring the output with the switch in the middle position and adjust WS_TRIM until the oscillator cuts out that’s the correct setting. If the wave shape pot still seems a little too sensitive let us know!

Yes it should be ok, you definitely won’t break anything. You might need to play around with a few resistor values but I haven’t tried it so I can’t say for sure.
Give it a go and if you run into any problems let me know.

Hi gummyboy The LFO switch is just 2 positions, IN or OUT. The range of the frequency control combined with the through zero offset control is quite large so in LFO mode you can get audio rate oscillation and in Audio mode you can get LFO rate. If you find it’s not operating as expected sometimes, i...

tetsutestu Hi sorry to hear you’re having some confusion with this. You shouldn’t get too hung up about tuning to C1. The calibration procedure is just to make sure that you’re getting even octaves per volt. You can tune by ear too, in much the same way you would tune a guitar. Just play a low note...

efluon Thanks for the kind words and I’ll bear those suggestions in mind. I’ve just finished the build guides for the Timbre and VCA modules, for some reason it always seems to be an absolute pain getting them done. This time the formatting went all wrong so I’ve basically done them twice! I have a...

[In the build manual -12V is stated, so that is a remnant of another format? Not really, the opamp output basically hits the rail (-12V) but in reality the output won’t go down that far. As long as it stops oscillating that’s the main thing. Originally this test wasn’t included but I realised after...

BC548 will probably work, make sure you check the pinout first though.
To set the WS_Trim, make sure waveform switch is in middle position and waveshape control is at 0 then adjust the trimmer so the output stops oscillating.

Leverkusen Thanks for the kind words. The vca is based on the Minimoog vca which has a really nice soft clipping characteristic. This adds harmonics to sine waves for subtle warm distortion but conversely removes some higher order harmonics on things like saw waves so when you turn it up it slightl...

jamos Hello, Might need you to send me some pics if you can’t get the v/oct tracking to work. It could be down to the setting of the TZ offset control though. This sets a current into the linear FM input and therefore does affect the pitch quite dramatically but it’ll only affect v/oct tracking if ...

schege Hello, I think the matched transistors work fine by all accounts. The inclusion of the IC socket is for people who may have these ICs at hand and want to use them. Maybe there will be some cheaper matched pnp ICs in the future... who knows! This part of the circuit deals with the v/oct track...

dkincaid If it’s possible to post some pictures of the pcbs that would definitely help. As a quick test you could try using the log input (with pot up full) rather than v/oct input, this illuminates the problem being at v/oct input. The components associated with v/oct tracking are resistors R3 (10...

dkincaid Hi Dave, Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this, no worries though we’ll get this sorted. First off could you let me know if the Through Zero Offset control was set to 50% when you tried the v/oct calibration? If it’s set to zero this could easily cause problems with the calibration...

Hello toinenkasi Try setting the offset control to say 30% and re-test. This should give a more stable pitch. I noticed this effect too, it's because the offset control provides a DC bias for the Linear Frequency control input of the Log converter. When the offset pot is at 0 there's no real current...
