Modular Eurorack Newbie Buying Guide - Complete Resource for Newcomers!

Modular Eurorack Newbie Buying Guide Or: What to Expect When You’re Expecting (A Modular Addiction) By: @ToddOMG (With the help of you, the community) I’m writing this guide because it’s what I needed when I started in modular and I couldn’t find it in one complete source. This guide is intended to...

Re: BEST VCF at the moment ??

I think filters are quite possibly the most personal taste of all modular components. They all sound SO different, and peoples needs for them are also very different. It all comes down to personal preference, no matter what. So research and YouTubeing are absolutely essential to picking out a great ...

Re: What's your most wanted "luxury" module?

Actually, Metropolis. $500 for one channel of sequencing is super steep, but it just looks soooo fun for techno acid lines.

Re: How do you organize your modules in rack?

I like the way synthesizers like the MS20 and 2600 are generally laid out going from left to right. My modular system follows that thinking. Sound sources on the left. Sound manglers next. Clock, trigger, cv sequencer, modulators (LFO, envelope), utilities in the middle. Their signals usually go ev...

How do you organize your modules in rack?

I've been more and more obsessed with this question as I get deeper into modular, with the theory that it matters far more than we think it does. It literally can affect your music making decisions. So what's your personal theory? I organize my rack by OUTPUTS/INPUTS -> OSC -> FILTER, (bottom row), ...

Re: Tips for fitting 2hp modules next to each other?

Yea that does make sense. I'm glad to know it isn't something I'm doing wrong at least. I'll check to see about the connectors profile size. I'm thinking I'll re-arrange all the modules to see what fits best next to what now. I have the other case too and it still has a lot of space left so i do ha...

Re: Which modules instantly hooked you with their workflow? Best intuitive and good UX modules?

Vote for LEAST clickable: Behringer Neutron I'm not sure why, but the fact that it's internally normalled and only breaks connection when you input a patch cable boggles me. I can never figure out exactly how it's routed. This is not a big deal when you're using individual components, like you want ...

Re: Intellijel Shifty

I lusted after this module, but I decided after awhile that my needs for it would be better by just combining mults, mutes and vcas. Essentially wanted this module to control several different osc with the same sequence, but I can do that just fine manually multing and muting what I need at that mom...

Re: Today my small discovery was...

That using a an envelope into a S+H module, then running that in sync with a clock to Plaits model input is pure magic.

Inputting the envelope directly into model doesn't behave or 'latch' to the new model in a predictable way every time. Which may or may not be what you're going for...

Re: Goal Rack...

I would highly consider Metropolis and Circadian Rhythms over Stepper and the Erica Drum. Personal preference, but for techno those two are hugely valuable. Though you'd probably get great results with Stepper and Erica, I think the other two are easier to play live and mess with live!

Re: Does this functionality exist in a switch module?

It may be easier just to do this via a sequencer rather than a switch? Any switch you buy, you could probably get a Beatstep Pro for just a little more. You could copy the kick pattern to two drum sequences and mute them to your hearts desire! In a glance, this seems like a sequencer problem more th...

Re: Tuning your oscillators?

I have a modular template I've built up over the years (its become extremely complex over the years) and I have a tuner + spectrum on the inputs and master channel I use to tune. Although, to be honest, most of the time I just start making music and don't worry about if its in tune or not. It's a ba...

Re: What sparked your entry into eurorack?

My favorite band MSTRKRFT basically stopped using traditional synths at one point and went modular, caused me to look into it. Never thought I could afford it. Then I sold a bunch of synths, started a small collection and my wallet has hated me ever since.

I can't speak for customer service or anyone who works for Conjured, though I can say I own a Cloak + Dagger and I think it's one of the best sounding and most versatile filters I've ever used. Has anyone made an intellijel 7u case WITH the midi and line out jacks on the back? How did you secure the PCB from intellijel? They told me they *may* be able to sell me one.

I would guess they want to encourage use of their 1U format to compete with Pulp Logic and sell their cases.

Re: How to get multiple sequencers to start together?

I agree it’s hard to troubleshoot unless someone has the exact same set of modules. You’ll have to experiment and see what works best for you. For example, I use a uMidi, Roland TR8S and beatstep pro. I’ve had lots of sync issues. I’ve posted many times and no one has any helpful tips - probably onl...

Zvex Fuzz Factory - get the pedal or modular?

Anyone own the Zvex Fuzz Factory? Am looking to pick one up, but I’m curious if just getting the pedal version would be better. It goes as low as $100-150 used as opposed to $300 for the modular version. Having CV control is of course wonderful but I’m curious if anyone has one and they’ve found the...

I can’t believe the price point on the octal vca. It’s really, really cool as a utility module and barebones mixer. If there was some way to get an expansion module to control output levels I’d be so stoked.

Any good youtube videos out there to demonstrate exactly what 'zero point' means and does in a VCO?

I understand that in FM modulation it means you can go negative, 'through the zero' literally, but I'm not sure what that exactly means in practical or musical terms.

Re: Neutron vs Atlantis

It's almost an impossible question to answer. Both have upsides and downsides. The Atlantis is a tried and true analog system that's been around decades (as far as circuitry design goes). It sounds fantastic and phat. But it's also missing some modern luxuries like MIDI and USB input. Plus, it needs...
