I record separate tracks of a jam and make changes to the arrangement in post. I also add effects and set the levels in post, pretty much.
I basically follow this example

No, buy modules then have beers. Doing it the other way round could lead to a world of pain. :guinness:
Haha that is very true! Be aware that the money for beer may run out after the module shopping :despair:

Mid-sider seems really nicely done with all the bells and whistles, been using the Worng euro thing for a while and tempted to get something more studio friendly, thanks for posting this. :guinness: A nice trick is to send your bass to a bus with a chorus on, making it wide and phat. Re: Soundcraft Signature Series

Naturligfunktion - I'd imagine it is something to do with a button being pressed in somewhere (the desk doesn't make such things as obvious as maybe on bigger/nicer desks) - track sends to the computer are pre fader and pre eq I think so it suggests you might somehow be monitoring at the wrong plac...

Re: Recording Modular Music: How do you do it?

Hi guys! I see lot of you are using the MTK series ... How happy you are with the drivers and A/D quality? Also how it handles your modular levels? Should the modular lvels and mtk gain be almost closed to avoid clipping? no pad i see. how it records? totally Post? inc mutes/fadels etc? or pre-fade...

My G, I do believe the signature symptoms you are experiencing stem from an engaged AFL button on the right side of your mixer. Please let me know if this helps!
I just tried and it didn't make any difference sadly. Thanks anyway

There are zero local stores to try this stuff in, and anything not local would be a 3 hour boat trip or 30 min plane ride away at least.

Mate if you can, go to a store and try a few things out. I had a very different idea what I wanted then what I got when I started with modular. Im quite happy the way it turned out. Re: How to keep bass mono?

If you record it there are several ways to keep the low freq in mono. Most EQ have a mid / side thing. Use that to filter away anything you dont want in stereo.

If it is a live situation Im not sure. I wouldnt send the kick into the stereo delay if that is possible, but that maybe not is desirable?

Re: What are your goals when it comes to modular synthesis?

Initial goal was to have a big enough system to be able to play techno for a hour or so, but small enough so it is not overwhelming. I really like to patch away and listen to the results, slowly adding and subtrackting sounds and timbres. It feels like sculpting. That I cisel away until I find that ...

Re: Doing more with less

I think a lot depends on what the limitations are. There are some things that limit everything you do, like poor speakers or lack of permanent working space. These issues lead to frustration rather than creativity, and should be addressed as soon as possible. Sometimes the limitation is a choice ("I...

Re: What is the critical mass of a synthesizer?

I suppose I haven't found my tipping point yet. After filling up my small 6U case I got another small 3U skiff. It made me really anxious to even start thinking about getting the right modules, looking at modulargrid, the agony was real so I stopped cold turkey. What bums me out is that I have only ...

Multable instrument does not work for me. Something about their sound and playability. I find them complicated, but also to simple in a weird way. They have to small knobs used for to important functions, and they have way to many tricks that I never remember (I am, after all, an idiot) so they don'...

Re: Give me your best sequencing tricks for inspiration

I usually go for short sequences, four notes or something like that, and then trigger the sequence with a rhythm that takes some time to line up with the four note sequence again, like a nine step five hits euclidean thing. Then I modulate loads of aspects of the melodic sound. This recipe results ...

This is pretty vague. What happened? Moog couldn’t fix the broke?
They did offer to help actually, so maybe I did a cheap shot at moog (sorry!)

It was a pot issue. The filter is broken basically. Apparently it was a common problem with the sub phatty.

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

It just looks cheap, ugly and boring. that's the only reason that makes me hate these products, really - it removes half the pleasure. compare that with Korg who can actually make cheap synths with a perfect design and finish. Agree. The design is important. If the Behringer stuff would look cool -...

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

I think Behringer is boring. It is also a bit shady to make copies of products - just make a cheap synth instead. If you want to make a moog like synth, do that but don't copy everything even the design. It just looks cheap, ugly and boring. This behaviour annoy me regardless of product. I do not, h...
