Re: Capturing inspiration

I used to abide to the record everything principle. Fool proof, if you stumble across something it is already captured. Downside: you need to sift through massive chunks of audio. That takes time (and is super boring). These days, if I hear something I like: I record it. A bit more stream lined. So ...

Re: 5 TIPS I picked up while recording my first modular album

Great tips, but even better is the music! First song is excellent!

Very well done :tu:

Interesting re the effects. I have started more to try to commit to sounds, and it does wonder for the productivity! I never dared to do so fully with the effects, however, but I will try for my next song :)

Re: What are you listening to now?

Currently I have Madlib's latest album on repeat. Some really great beats in there.

That shit is banging

I also, still, listen to D'angelo almost every day. Both Voodoo and Black Messiah are great albums. Really wish he make some new music soon

Re: How do you release content across sub-genres

I find genres very difficult to define and it seems that they change every minute, so I wouldn't worry that much about it. I like to think that the listener is the one who has the honour to define the music. I just make it :) So to sum up: If you want to have two projects, go for it. If it becomes d...

Re: High Gain amps

I used to have a Marshall combo amp with 2, 12" speakers, and 1 high gain channel. Man you got into Megadeth territory quickly :) Sad thing was that my brother took it away from me (and a Gibson SG!). Sure, it was his amp, and his guitar (with some really bad ass bare knuckle pick ups), but I still ...

I forgot how much of a genius Sting is. I watched a Rick Beato video on how it is impossible to copy Sting because of his unconventional songwriting style, and dusted off my copies of The Dream of the Blue Turtles and ...Nothing Like the Sun . Re: Is it possible to make these ice sounds on a synth?

Seems like a fun challenge! I will try to make this sound later today and give my patch notes. I reckon you will need to make two sounds: one laser and one scratchy noise source thingy.

(would be easier to sample the video, but where is the fun with that!)

Re: Cure for GAS?

I have noticed that my GAS disguise itself in order for me to buy more things. If I am "done buying modules" I will start to look at guitars. Or coffee things. Or books. Or records. There is always something to get. But honestly, if you have a budget and stick to it, I don't see any problems getting...

Techno Rock n Roll Music - It is a thing

Yo! I just finished a song. Pretty happy with it actually. I made it quicker than I usually do and it centers around a really fat pad made from a moog that I played to an amplifier. On top of that, little drum beat, some funky (and sloppy...) guitars on each side. Touch of vocals providing that gloo...

Re: Dear Audacity: please die. Horribly.

After reading this thread, I kinda want to try Reaper I went to Reaper after years of Cubase. Got fed up with the continuous "feature bloat", long load times and wonky security work-arounds. Never looked back. I work - quite happily - with Ableton and have done so for a while now. Before that I use...

Re: How much/often do you purchase on Bandcamp?

If I find something I like, I buy it on bandcamp. It works great for me: I can stream it in the app, and download the files to my USB so I can listen to it on my big system at home. Used to buy a lot (!) of vinyls but I dont really do that anymore. It is too expensive and the records take too much r...

Well, not to be annoying or anything, but I would be surprised if Usain Bolt showed up when I went to the dentist. Re: Recording technique: building songs from recording euro samples / loops

I would highly recommend spending a few afternoons learning basic music theory. Knowing how chord progressions are put together, how to fit a melody to a harmony, how to read the Nashville system, etc is really really worth it for any type of musician. Sure, you can trial and error a cool progressi...
