Re: ALM Squid Salmple - 8 channel CV and audio sampler

Hi all, Wondering what people are using to batch convert files to 16bit for use on the squid? So far i've found doing small runs of conversion a bit laborious.. bonus points for options that add markers too but mainly just converting tons of samples to drop I don't have the squid, but I use Fission...

Re: Great Examples of Modulating Your Modulation

My "trick" (a generous term) is to conceptually think of my 3xVCA as an attenuator with a VCA. Whenever I need an attenuator, I use the 3xVCA and its offset to dial in the attenuation I need. Then later in the patch, when I go "hmmm, what if I modulate the attenuation", I can patch some CV signal (p...

Just for the record, right now, on the front page, I count four threads where the most recent posts are people having various problems with their Verbos modules. I have never had a Verbos module myself, but this is a real problem.

It'll change whatever you plug the CV outs into - doesn't have to be pitch.
In fact, I would say that VB is best at modulating stuff that isn't pitch.

Re: Decoupled gates from notes in sequencer?

the key difference between how sequencers expect and deal with clocks comes down to digital v analogue, and whether clock division/ multiplication are parts of the design. I don't think about it as analogue vs digital but as two different sequencer paradigms. One kind of sequencers have a built in ...

Re: My entry into the modular world. Where I should go ?

The BIA is a great start. I use it all the time, and it does the entire range from basic bass drum, hi hat, melodic lead, to angry cat, and rusty nails in blender. It needs modulation, though, and a classic companion is Malekko's Voltage Block. Then you need clocks/triggers, and the classic option i...

Re: Decoupled gates from notes in sequencer?

Using separate triggers/gates to advance a sequencer and trigger notes is a great idea. One sequencer that works well for this is Rene2, and it has a built-in quantizer (plus it does a whole lot more). A classic module to generate the triggers/gates would be Pam's New Workout. Perhaps more fun and p...

As a side comment, instead of muting a track at the mixer, I often find it more useful to mute the triggers (or gates) that drive the track.

Just to echo what most other people have said. I have O'Tool+ in the rack, and it is incredibly useful. Obviously, I mostly patch by ear, but occasionally I need to see what is going on, and then it is indispensable.

Re: linear power supplies in 2020

I think they are replacing it with the psu 3 Exactly right. Doepfer's PSU2 is linear. PSU3 is switching. Doepfer has been phasing out PSU2 and replacing it with PSU3 for a while. I understand that some people have a preference for linear PSU. Personally, I have 6 x PSU3 units running my system, and...

(guitar pedal PSUs won't work—polarity is wrong)
Just for the record, you can get a power cable that flips the polarity. Moogerfoogers also require reverse power, and I use these cables to power them with a regular guitar PSU:

Re: how to create a gate from trigger?

So it is not possible to use the m303 without these modules? what about vca and quadrax? It depends on how you play the m303. If you play it with a keyboard (such as Moog Grandmother), it may be able to give you a high gate as long as you hold the key down. Many sequencers also generate gates of di...

Re: how to create a gate from trigger?

There may be fancier ways to do this, but I would use my basic Doepfer 171-2 slew with a short rise time and a longer fall time. The trigger starts the slew, and its output works like a gate going high. When the output falls below the m303's threshold (wherever it is), it is like the gate going low....

Ok, thanks, I will definitely do some more research on that. Would the downsides to not doing that or not doing it properly be mostly related to oscillator tuning issues, or potential something more sinister? Going slightly off topic: In many cases (pun not intended) it is not a problem to not conn...

Re: What VCAs do you prefer for attenuating/modulating CV?

I mostly use Happy Nerding 3xVCA for CV control. Unlike my other VCAs, its offset makes it slightly different conceptually (the offset means that it doesn't close when there is no CV input). Conceptually, I think of it as an attenuverter with CV control. Whenever I need an attenuverter, I use the 3x...

I'm still finding Typhoon to be rather opaque in what and how it does what it does. What can the Chronoblob do that the Typhoon cannot? What can the Typhoon do that the Chronoblob cannot? Starthief's response is spot on, and I also recommend that you consider the Mimeophon, which is a combined cloc...
