Re: MIDI to CV - Kenton or Eurorack?

Thanks, I will look into those- I'm also reasearching the Behringer Neutron as a midi to CV converter with added bonus of envelopes and VCA since I don't have those in Eurorack yet

MIDI to CV - Kenton or Eurorack?

I'm wanting to control my Eurorack CMS ARP 2500 oscillator pitch used strictly for vocoder tones- I don't even have a VCA or envelopes (yet) just want to play various pitches via midi without fine-tuning each time. Also have a Roland SH-1 I'd like to use for basslines in productions. Any reason not ...

Well I finally got off the fence and ordered the 1004 oscilator module and 1047 multimode filter. I am using them for the very specific task of recreating the Cylon voice from the 1978 Battlestar Galactica series. Communication is fairly sparse from Phill, and due to an alleged credit card hack, and...

Well I just got in my CMS ARP 2500 clone Eurorack modules (oscillator and multimode filter). I now have every piece of original gear used to make the Cylon voice for the first time under one roof... it is spectacular- they got lucky that Jerry Goldsmith's ARP 2500 was there to use or the Cylon voice...

Interesting, for some reason I thought it had a very short delay/reverb with high feedback, it appears that is not the case unless I missed something.. There have been all good guesses over the years, this one, Marshall Time modulator, Ring modulator. It really is just a PWM tone at 1-2 very specif...

Wow - super thorough! Seeing it (very briefly) restored some of my faith in humanity. We are such a delightfully weird species; not only do we create Cylon voices for reasons that are, frankly, hard to explain but 50 years later someone is so taken by this sound that they embark on this mystery to ...

How the voice of the Cylon was made (finally!)

Wanted to share with you guys first, through a wild coincidental connection I ended up speaking with the last person alive who worked on the original Battlestar Galactica TV show and engineered the voice. The guessing and speculation is over:

I am wanting to buy several modules of these but the payment options suck, and they don't answer emails so I'm not really keen on it. Bummer that someone can't reply to an email to drag a $2K sale over the finish line. Must be rolling in money and can have contempt for customers?

As Yes Powder noted, the vocoder will most likely quiet all the bands when your mic (or whatever) is silent, so you don't necessarily need a VCA. If you still want a VCA anyway, there are a few more things you need to work out: 1. Do you simply want the ability to turn the sound on and off, hard? Y...

I'm just wanting to know if a Eurorack synthesizer setup with the CMS 1004 oscillator requires a VCA unit to initiate/play the tone. It looks like there are less expsensive alternates than the CMS one, do I need to look at matching voltages or anything? Will the Doepfer work? I've owned many vocoder...

Yes we already have separate analog vocoders, this is strictly to generate a tone. The oscillator has a pitch knob, just need "on/off" control

Eurorack help- bare minimum setup for SYNTH tones

***Title edited. Just want to know if VCA module is needed to trigger continuous unchanging synth tones from a VCO My buddy and I want to setup a Eurorack tone generator based around the CMS Arp 2500 clone oscillator. We just want to make tones for our external hardware vocoders, and also use the m...

I can confirm or deny NOTHING, but the bassline in this song sounds suspiciously similar to the raw, naked Sequential Pro-1 bass patch in the intro to 80's hit "I Wonder If I Take You Home" by Lisa Lisa:

it's shocking how many sellers misrepresent their items. while it's completely unrealistic to think a 30-40 year old synth that hasnt been serviced is going to be in perfect working order, you shouldn't have to write off quirks as typical - its the seller's responsibility to describe their items ac...

Thanks for the detailed responses. I opted for a unit specifically for using Japanese electronics in the USA (117v to 100v) seems to be working great, no hums, buzzes or smells. Hmm care to elaborate? I was about to go pick one up, they seem to be a common solution to using Japan products in USA. Something like this:

Can I plug in 100v Roland SH-1 into USA wall socket?

Figured this is the best place to ask. Just got a Roland SH-1, the plate by power supply says 100v. 50hz/60hz 10 W My SVC-350 says 117v I was told it's a rare USA model. Can I just plug in this SH-1 to the wall (I am in California, USA) safely or do I need a transformer of some kind? Any help greatl...
