Re: Changing speed without changing pitch

I've never been able to get Morphagene's time stretch to work, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've got a clock coming into the clock input. I've got the morph control set to 11 o'clock so that the window thing on the left goes blue. But nothing happens when I change the clock speed. Is ther...

Re: ADDAC 215’s unobtanium status and PC’s “coming soon” mystique (EDIT: PC FIXED IT! HAZAAH!)

Given that clarification, I would just add that, particularly now that PC says "out of stock" instead of "coming soon," PC's practice seems okay to me--particularly when buyers understand how PC works. Modules are expensive, and PC probably runs on small margins. By doing pre-orders the way they do,...

Re: ADDAC 215’s unobtanium status and PC’s “coming soon” mystique (EDIT: PC FIXED IT! HAZAAH!)

My assumption is that with PC, it works as follows: You order a "coming soon"/"out of stock" module having no idea when they'll get the next modules in stock, but that whenever they do, they fulfill the "coming soon"/"out of stock" orders based on order priority, and if there are more modules leftov...

Re: Stereo filters

I'll say it again: Vult Freak . 12HP. A dozen different filter models plus distortion / destruction effects. Frequency can be individually modulated for each channel, as well as globally. Dual mode allows a different filter module on each channel. Reasonably priced. Frequent firmware updates so far...

They seem to be in stock at Patchwerks.
Nice. Thanks for the heads up. Just ordered from there (and actually, hadn't even heard of this shop before--a nice discovery in its own right!).

Re: Modules that made you say "where have you been my whole life!?"

I'd say a Turing Machine module -- my preference being the Greyscale Permutation. Every time I plug into the thing it spits out a really interesting melody. It's so great, it feels like cheating.

Re: Sooooo frustrated with threaded strips

I don’t get why people hate sliding nuts so much. As long as you have way more than you think you need and have a couple in between most modules, no issues whatsoever, in my experience. Agreed. Further, when sliding nuts is done really well, the result in use is not only better visual aesthetics, b...

Re: Sooooo frustrated with threaded strips

You need to make sure that the threaded strip is well-positioned in the rail and also lined up with the other strip before tightening down the first module. Amazingly enough, Doepfer modules with the regular mounting holes are the perfect template for this alignment because they conform to the spec...

Sooooo frustrated with threaded strips

I can't for the life of me figure out why threaded strips on cases is an "upgrade." I find them so frustrating. Admittedly, there are frustrations either way: With sliding nuts, the nuts can be annoying to line up, and you can sometimes run out of nuts when you're, for instance, removing one module ...

Re: Tube distortion without the tubes

Sonocurrent mt2d is another dual nutube based distortion that I did the circuit design and layout for, the feedback paths, CV over mix and bias, and tilt eq allow it to go to some pretty special places. The Sonocurrent looks very interesting, but I can't find much information out about it, save for...

Re: FSS OSC2 Recombination Engine - Triple analogue VCO

curious, what didn’t you like about the trident? (not trying to hijack thread...!) having owned neither of them, FSS OSC2 seems like it has a more unique sound, as opposed to trident that tries (and honestly maybe succeeds at) ticking off all the timbral parameter boxes It's not that I didn't like ...

Re: Tube distortion without the tubes

trogotronic makes a wonderful dual tube VCA that seems to not be too crazy powerwise! it sounds great also the m277 does sound great, but it draws 720mA on the +12V rail unless you use its external power supply. i really like the L-1 Tube VCA 1Ж24Б and it only draws 12mA/25mA. Ya, I'm liking what I...

The Metasonix stuff is generally quite erratic (if not haywire) and does odd things. If you just want some nice, predictable tube distortion then I’d go for something cheaper and less.. uncompromising.
Good to know. Any you like in particular?

Re: Tube distortion without the tubes

Most of the tube designs are starved plate with low power tubes. The erica plasma only draws 150 on the +12 rail. Huh. I didn't realize that. I thought they were mostly like the Metasonix, which pulls a lot of current. The Metasonix sounds great, but are there low current options that folks think s...

Xaoc Tallin does non-symmetric overdrive which is rather tube-ish. But how much is ”all the current” to you?
I mean, I don't have a strict requirement. I just didn't want to throw 500 or 1000 mAs at a single module. Maybe a couple hundred?

Tube distortion without the tubes

Maybe I'm asking for the impossible, but what would you suggest for the most "tube-like" eurorack distortion module (not guitar pedal) that doesn't use tubes and therefore doesn't suck up all the current of my power supply?

Re: Grayscale Permutation: expanded Turing Machine + Voltages

Just wanted to chime in to say how much I've been loving my Permutation. I don't know if it's a Turing Machine thing (never used one) or specific to the Permutation, but every time I plug into it I get a beautiful melody without really trying. Every. Single. Time. It blows my mind. I truly don't und...
