Re: Yamaha QX3. Funk or junk?

I have the precursor to the MC 500...

The MSQ- 700. I love it! It’s tight as hell, and it’s easy to use. And I love how it looks!

Re: Patch bay questions

Thanks everyone! My buddy is giving me 4 patchbays for a beer and the condition I take all of them, so I'll start there. I need to assess how much of the gear going into the patchbay is even balanced at all, but will start to move to TRS where it will be a complete circuit to my interface. I'm alre...

Re: Buy Maths, just buy Maths

I mean, it's a bunch of useful stuff in one module- just really handy. Given what it does is mostly resolutely utilitarian (in the nicest way) it should be a pretty uncontroversial suggestion. Mixy/attenuvertory/envelopey goodness isn't a bad default module for any rack. I'm not sure I feel religio...

Re: Making a "sequencer" with a clock divider and mixer

Some other fun things you can do: - Have an LFO control the amplitude of one gate. This can create a "vibrato" effect, but only for some of the notes - Have a slow gate control another gates amplitude via a vca. This also creates some ratchet-y type of rhythms and melodies. - Blend in some other CV...

Is it completely horrible that talking to him was my first thought as well? If anyone can get this into the hands of thousands of people for 200 dollars, it’s him. I mean, you will have to sell your soul to do it.... yes, and can we PLEASE get out of this habit of dropping that line every time any ...

Re: 6Hz at 130dB. We all threw up and cracked a warehouse wall

I remember many years ago reading an article in the UK Private Eye magazine. It was a leak about a commission to the Phillips Electronics Corporation from a certain pro-western friendly middle eastern country. It was for a room sized sound proof chamber with inbuilt 5hz speakers. The project engine...

Re: Twisted Electrons MEGAfm

They make some nice design choices at Twisted Elctrons. I don't know why I should "care" about the sega thingy. But if the price is right .. Does it sound nice or is it limited to chiptunes and bit-reduced sounds? 474 Euro excluding VAT their site says. That's more than a used Digitone was my first...

Re: 5u - the next trend?

I sometimes wonder if I am the only person who uses 5U who manages to get into the same amount of spaghetti patching mess with knobs obstructed as I do with smaller format modulars! nope. the difference is with 5u you don't also need to be holding tweezers as you snake your arm through the cables.....

Re: why do you prefer modular hardware to software?

I treat my computer as a tape machine.....

Everything else is hardware, except things like mastering compression, and the odd reverb or delay so I can maintain control to the most finite degree.

Re: how do you manage your musical timeline using modular

A bit of all of this!! Because my modular is part of a larger system, it’s important that I’m able to give it the time it deserves. I usually start with a rough idea... “I want to make something involving a really ringing LPG”, and that’s where it begins. I fire gates at it from a BSP that’s locked ...

[…] Supposed to be very close to the old PPGs, more so than later Waldorf wavetable synths. […] If it were that easy, life would be a gas. The early MicroWave is closer to the Prophet VS than to the PPG Wave 2.3 it was brought out to mimick. The VS is no bad synth, but it's no PPG... neither is the...

Re: 5u - the next trend?

I’m definitely on the fence with this. I have a pretty good euro system... but I would love to get that east coast vibe within 5 unit. I’m not sure... I may just build a minimoog into a case and start there... see where it gets me! But there is so much more going on within eurorack, things that are ...

So for the price it’s worth getting? I may have to grab one! Just waiting for my TD-3 still! Definitely worth the price. An original costs way too much at this point and you never what kind of problems you’re gonna run into with one. The Behringer offers modern luxuries the original just can’t. Im ...

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

Once again... lots of words, nothing to say. First off, when I asked if Behringer donates to charitable causes, it was an honest question. Because I have no idea-- maybe they do donate? It's awesome if they do. People are so on edge that they read everything as a personal attack, and assume everyon...
