Re: Alien voices

I think the problem is that we don't know how it would sound, the other species could even be something we're unable to think of as a life form. Seriously though, audio rate FM'ing filters, multiple bandpass filters, some ring mod settings can yield vocal-like timbres, but I assume you might have tr...

Re: Feedback use and controls

Spring reverbs are great - Doepfer A-199 with A-112 and A-188-2 feeding back into each other can make amazing sounds at the point when the feedback is starting to build up. Seems like an envelope follower or other suggestions above would be useful to keep the levels at bay.

Re: KORG to Remake ARP Odyssey

Late to the party, but got my Odyssey two days ago.

Not sure how it's possible to use the PPCs any other way than grabbing the side of the synth and applying huge amounts of pressure with my thumb. Other than that, very pleased with the unit :cloud:

Re: How do you record your samples ?

Also, when you are done recording and processing, check the levels of individual samples and normalize them all to a suitable level, e.g. -12db. Although this may not be necessary if the recording levels are even to begin with.

Re: tips on authentic 80's pop production

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but as for scales, try sticking with the more common ones - mixolydian is pretty great for example, locrian not so much  +1000 to avoid using super heavy low end - some of the early Madonna stuff actually has pretty thin sounding synth basses, not to mention Black ...

Re: Never meet your heroes

Don't know why transposing sequencers isn't a big thing. The 'musical' transposing you get with an Ornament & Crime just makes stuff sound like a musical piece instead of a repetitious sequencer jam :guinness: I was quite underwhelmed on the Roland V-Synth XT as a VA, it just often sounded weak to m...

Re: ADDAC - Doepfer case expansion kit!

I had just enough space to cram one of these into my DIY suitcase with 6U of rails. I think the screw holes for modules were quite tight initially but no biggie. Overall it's great to have that extra HP.

Re: KORG to Remake ARP Odyssey

Does anyone have any insight whether negative voltages (e.g. from a bipolar eurorack source) into the pedal input can cause trouble or damage to the Odyssey?

I've been thinking of picking one of these up, it would be the icing on the cake to send euro stuff to modulate the filter and VCO2.

I guess the big deal is a band that is not cool in a modular elitist way has some eurorack.

I can't use a DAW anymore because mainstream pop songs are made with DAWs :sarcasm:

Don't have that specific module but at least the Ladik MIDI to trigger and M330 clock to MIDI modules are solid.

Re: Amplifying 8-channels of external audio

Not sure if 20db of gain would be enough for the guitar, but 2 Mutable Instruments Veils would offer that. 4 Erica synths Pico Inputs would be 12hp, but less versatile than Veils and not cheaper :hmm:

Re: Doepfer BBD sound

The A-188-2 can also get into short delay territory by using the 3328 stage only on the mix outs. Seems like patching the 3328 tap out into the feedback input extends the available range a bit before clock noise creeps in. It's a huge module and I've still have to come up with creative uses for the...

To anyone who has a K2, have you been able to succesfully sequence it via CV e.g. from euro sequencers without using a Hz/V converter?

Re: Module for gate patterns from logic

The Flip Flop Chaos is a great module. The patterns are often musically useful but aren't always spot-on tight regarding the timing, like a 'normal' logic module would with steady gates coming in.

The knobs on the RYO Optodist are just nice and big, instant wiggle heaven.
Intellijel Triatt has a lot of wiggle room for such a small module.

Feedback and audio rate modulation can make the SEM dirty as hell too :flamey:

of course the Wasp still has a very different character.

Re: So....when does stereo REALLY matter?

Stereo bass shouldn't be an issue if you mono the bass frequencies or cut the lows from the side channel.

Some of the stereo do have individual cutoff and cut CV so you can use them with two mono signals.

+1 on controlling the width for additional sense of song dynamics.

Re: "High-Q" drum sound better than MIDI GM2 #27

How about trying without an input oscillator with the VCF self-oscillating?

Also, are you happy with how snappy the envelope response is? I guess that would play a large part in the character of that zap sound.

Re: Something new from Make Noise coming?

I'm hoping it's not another stereo module, as it will be needlessly expensive for my needs. Each to their own of course, but I don't really get the recent clamour for stereo modules to be honest. I find stereo reverbs and delays can just suffocate a mix and eat up the L-R space and frequency spectr...
