Re: Which soldering iron to get started?

using your tip correctly is much more important than which iron you use. I use a tip tinner once every few days, use only a brass sponge for tip cleaning (prevents thermal shock and maintains consistent tip temperature). 310-320 C for a leaded 63/37 with R or RA flux. When turning off the iron for m...

Re: PCBs as Front Panels ?

Question about plated holes for jacks/pots/etc, jlc’s listed capability for PTH Hole Size is “ Min. drill size is 0.20mm. Max. drill size is 6.30mm”

I’m sure I’ve seen larger plated holes on pcb panels. Does anyone know which fab houses do plated holes large than 6.30mm?

Re: DIY Mutable Unsuccessful Builds

Anyone have the part # for the push button that goes to the freeze on Monsoon? Hi japes, take a look at E-Switch LP4OA1PBCTG, where TG means Transparent cap and Green led. As with any part, check the data sheet to make sure this fits your needs, and choose whichever variations on the part number yo...

I made my suggestion at Tayda, they replied "I have forwarded your request to our Product Sourcing Dept, they will try to get the parts as soon as possible". Tayda appears to have these in stock now https://www.taydaelectronics.com/potentiometer-variable-resistors/rotary-potentiometer/linear/100k-o...

Re: Befaco Output V3 Left Channel non working![HELP]

If you can upload a picture of the board top and bottom I’ll take a look. I don't see anything clearly wrong given the image quality. If this were my board, I would compare the board and parts placement against the schematic, and use a DMM to check connectivity of all components around the left inp...

If you can upload a picture of the board top and bottom I’ll take a look. It’s a relatively simple path from input to output. Since it’s heard on the headphones as well, the issue is likely present around the first TL072

now I need someone to explain what function those edges serve.
As far as I'm aware, their primary use is a surface-mount flavor of board-to-board connection. Manufacturers may choose this over through-hole for a variety of reasons.

Re: 2hp potentiometer mounting, castellated edges

I regularly make 2hp PCBs like this without castellation. The plating does tear a little bit sometimes, but the only point of these holes is to secure (and possibly ground) the potentiometer to the panel with which I've never had problems. Thanks pjbulls! This is great to hear. I'd be more worried ...

2hp potentiometer mounting, castellated edges

Hello fellow wigglas, I came across this nice Schmitz ADSR layout by Kraakenstuff and was wondering if a fab house would require castellation in order for the potentiometer mounting holes to be properly plated for a secure mechanical connection, or whether standard PTH is secure enough. Attached are...

Plaits also has a normalisation calibration but you dont need to do it explicitly (the normalisation probe is calibrated when y...

Re: DIY Mutable Unsuccessful Builds

Hi everyone. I'm wondering if anyone knows the Normalization procedure for Plaits. As expected, pin 30 of the stm "normalization probe" sends pseudo white noise to the switch pin of the Trig, Level, Timbre, FM, and Morph jacks. This is supposed to be used by the mcu to detect if a cable is inserted ...

Thank you all for the help. To stay on the economical side with parts I’ll stock up on 0603 (pardon the typo in the title). Also the stripboard compatibility sounds great! As far as using 0603 on 0805 pcb footprints, this sounds appealing for the larger soldering surface. Are there any preferable ma...
