Wow, that is a lot of Rollz! I'm building a Meng Qi Rollz-5. I prototyped the Rollz circuits to see how they behave and found that the 3 and 5-Rollz only oscillate ultrasonic (100 Khz), no matter what capacitor is used. In P.B. the 3-Rollz obviously do work LFO (and are voltage-controlled). I'm rea...

Most women/queer/trans people who frequent this forum pretty openly acknowledge that they do so incognito, masking their gender in order to feel protected. Publicly "outing" yourself (claiming your gender) in these spaces is a calculated risk. Protected from what? I have been on the forum here for ...

Re: I need a price check on a QMMG
What sort of perspective are you looking for? If you aren't offering your for sale, it doesn't have a price. So it's worth whatever you think it is.Waz wrote:I'd like to know how much it's worth to put things into perspective.

And yes it is absolutely safe to assume that this is a space dominated by hetero men. Get your head of the sand. Pretending there isn't a problem does nothing to actually solve it. Why do you consider any space dominated by hetero men to be a "problem"? Are spaces that are dominated by feminist wom...

I think the name invites and reinforces a certain dialogue/culture. It's definitely not inclusive or inviting to anyone outside of that presumed culture. I think the dismissiveness towards anyone who disagrees is problematic. Nice way to stack a one-sided argument there. You posit some "certain" cu...

I say that as someone who had to painfully recompile 2.4.0 kernel in my virgin days of linux. If you've recompiled your kernel, you've hit the acid test of linux. Guess I failed (even though I did get the machine working). You think that's an asspain? Compare how much effort it takes to recompile y...

Have you tried carefully testing the board while touching the pads with your fingers? This usually works for me if I am worried about lifted pads or broken traces. If you touch it there, the circuit might work intermittently. Continuity can be restored by jumpering connections with a length of wire....

I had almost forgotten! Since the subject of this whole topic has changed, I also have a different answer for it. It is *I* who satisfy my modular ambitions. I certainly could do so with Eurorack, if necessary. But it is not. I use Euro mostly for small (4-8hp) utility modules. Eurorack is actually ...

Lol CJ, ok then. I think you've missed the point while also jumping to some conclusions. Perhaps. It is easy enough to say that this may be the case. I would not be adverse to some specific examples. Of course, it could also be that I understand your point but disagree. I think it is self evident t...

I kind of have my doubts about it as a granular synth. No windowing options? No spread or synchronization controls? If I had to guess, I'd suppose that they just used some basic granular tech to implement a regular wavetable synth. Not anything I need, but it's nice to see more options out there wit...

My point is that the innovation that would historically be associated with particular formats is no longer format specific. The advantage of euro is not that it has any quality differences from other formats. So? If there is no difference, then why are you trying to make a big deal of it? It has si...

Many, if not all, Buchla and Serge ideas have been incorporated into euro by now. This is exactly what I warned about a few pages back. Euro, Frac, and Mu are all formats. Serge and Buchla are specific companies. It is fair to compare, for instance, Buchla VS MakeNoise, Buchla VS TipTop, etc. But t...

I just think about what I am doing before, during, and after the patch. It's not unlike cooking - if you know the food, how it cooks, how the flavors mix, etc - then you can improvise recipes according to certain criteria, and reliably reproduce them, if you want. Because you understand why you made...

I usually prefer to test the voltages of everything once wiring is done, before putting the ICs in. It also depends upon what kind of wiring and how accessible the sockets are. A few months ago I tested a few VCOs which I just knew would be fine, and installed all of the ICs first except for the 308...

If you don't like a companies "quality", don't buy it. There's a bit more to it than that. People should be most critical of what they already have, because they know it better. Also, prospective buyers might wonder about long-term use and service. That's like comparing the price of wheat flour to ...

For those who like a history lesson, modular synths are cheaper now and more plentiful than they have ever been. Most of the build-quality problems I think tend to be caused by modern trends in electronics manufacturing. These can be worked around to make systems which would be more bomb-proof. But ...

Formats are IMO not very relevant. They tend to be inter-operable, for the most part. I lump them together based upon rack space: 3U (Euro, Frac, Vector, etc), 4U (Serge. Buchla, Kilpatrick, etc) and 5U (MOTM, .COM, Moon, etc). What I think must be distinguished is comparing formats to other formats...
