analog ordinance is out of business for over a year. He’s still kickin, still selling on Etsy. He just launched a new spate of passive designs with white or black panels a few months back, rather than in the green he was doing before. I also really dig his stuff - I’m less excited about having stuf...

Those LEDs are 5mm, you want 3mm, something from this list https://www.mouser.com/Optoelectronics/LED-Lighting/LED-Emitters/Standard-LEDs-Through-Hole/_/N-b1bc8?P=1yzxiolZ1z0yt1m&Ns=Pricing|0 Those are the right ICs. Those trimmers are eye-wateringly expensive. Compare with https://www.taydaelectron...

Re: If you were starting over; what would you do differently?

Do you make modules from kits or from scratch/DIY? I like the idea of making things myself and am capable already. In the past, I had too much money and didn't want to wait. What is a brawny PSU? Pretty much all of my utilities at this point are stripboard builds behind aluminum blanks that I’ve ha...

Re: If you were starting over; what would you do differently?

If I were starting over now, my first purchases would be soldering tools and parts. I wasted a lot of money early on buying basic utilities that are mostly dead easy to build. Same goes for cases and rails. Three years ago I considered myself the most un-handy person ever. Turns out that GAS, unfulf...

Re: 0805 and 0605, learning SMD in 2020

One thing to consider when buying parts: you can often populate 805 footprint passives with 603-sized parts, but not the other way around - so if you’re going to build up a stock of parts it’s better to buy extra 603s and fill in whatever you need specifically in 805 on a build-by-build basis. Also,...

Re: Can someone please show me the wiring for a passive LPF?

I’ll give a third vote that OP should consider putting some effort towards learning to read schematics. It opens up a lot of possibilities in terms of both building and troubleshooting, and doesn’t actually take that much effort. A big payoff for a small investment. I couldn’t wrap my head around it...

Re: J.Haible's Living VCO for Eurorack [Build Thread]

If anybody is able to chip in on this I'd greatly appreciate it. Just need to know where the 0V outputs on the VCO PCBs are wired to. Thanks I left the 0v pads on the voice cards empty - ditto the saw and pulse pads that are scattered across the boards. I think these pads may have been a holdover f...

Re: J.Haible's Living VCO for Eurorack [Build Thread]

Could that make a difference? I only have one supply so I haven't tried it no. I have a clicksandclocks DIY supply, never had a problem with it. The type of supply that gives me trouble with this module is far less robust than that one - that looks pretty solid, probably isn't that. Maybe double ch...

quad gate, 6 channels of buffered multiples for less than $100. I'd buy that in a heartbeat. behringer states 4 floating parallel connectors for the multiples is that the same as buffered multiples? That sounds like a passive (non-buffered) multiple, ie just jacks connected together. In the pics is...

If you want a kit, the Barton eurobuffer is good & inexpensive. Eats up a ton of hp for what it is though.

If you’re up for some stripboard mess, I’ve built this one, can confirm it works well:

Re: J.Haible's Living VCO for Eurorack [Build Thread]

For example does anybody know where the sine converter is on the driver PCB Barcode rev 1.1? Is there one or three separate converters? I'm guessing one as I have the same problem across all 3 VCOs. There are definitely three separate converters - each one has its own i/o, two trimpots, resistor ne...

Re: existential crisis in eurorack

Problematic comparisons aside, I can see both sides of this. As others have said, mainstreaming means more modules, means a larger market, increased access, more ideas, innovation, art. It keeps the pressure on everyone to work harder and put out better stuff, which can only be a good thing. On the ...

Re: J.Haible's Living VCO for Eurorack [Build Thread]

It’s a good quality recording. Listening to the audio file you can hear the high pitched buzz I’m taking about quite clearly. Also what is the driver out for? Oof, yeah, I can hear it using headphones. Not really sure what’s going on there, but mine doesn’t do that. The driver out is for chaining o...

Re: J.Haible's Living VCO for Eurorack [Build Thread]

I’ve never hooked mine up to a scope, seeing an intermittent spike down into the top of the wave. Only on the sine and tri. Turning the driver off makes no difference for me. But it’s not audible noise - I *do* get crazy amounts of noise from this thing if I power it from my AI Synthesis PSU (based ...

Now for the question I probably should have started with where can I get such a long cable or would I have to make it? https://www.allelectronics.com/item/cb-3510/10-cable-w/3.5-mm-mono-plug-both-ends/1.html This is where I got mine. I actually have some ten foot 3.5mm cables from allelectronics - they work no problem for euro level signal, whether cv or audio, no interference or signal droop. I would imagine the results would be less stellar with line level audio.

Was looking to make something similar after making my clock divider.

Is this your own design? Did you make it with the 2N2222a? Those are only in metal can and pretty pricey at Mouser.

Probably wouldn’t have the patience for the nested menus and learning shift keying stuff. In the interview he did for the latest Tape Op I guess he got so bored he lit his own shoes on fire. Dude has a thing for lighting shit on fire, so maybe he would do that.
