Re: New Wendy Carlos biography

Carlos’ importance is greatly overstated and all of the above is opinion not fact
As is your contention that her importance is overstated!

Please, please, please do not switch to optical encoders if it means making Zadar anything like the size/price of an E352

Re: WMD/SSF Amplitude VCA

If I had unlimited rack space, I would get one of these, they sound great and I love all my SSF, WMD modules. Maybe I could slot it into my plan for rack number 5? ;) I tend to play it safe with VCAs though, I don't want anything bringing too much colour, I tend to use outboard gear if I need that. ...

Re: New Wendy Carlos biography

I despise litigious people and Wendy Carlos often comes across in a very poor light with her actions/words. Perhaps we ought to consider though, that she is a deeply private individual, who has never courted celebrity. It must be galling to find someone seeking financial gain from publishing what yo...

Re: Xaoc Zadar, Quadruple Envelope Generator + Nin expander

Always grateful when people highlight issues such as this, it enables one to make an informed choice, which is all you can ask for. Equally good to hear from Xaoc addressing this encoder issue. On balance, it will not stop me acquiring Zadar. I had a Blofeld for years and when I was selling it, quit...

The lyrics and vocals on Taking Tiger Mountain (by Strategy) are sublime. Well, the whole record is sublime really.

Re: Send in the drones

It all depends what your aims are I suppose, keeping the length down is definitely a valid strategy for getting listens and comments on here. I'm not sure its the right move musically for this type of track (imo). I agree it probably seems like a bit of an ego trip within the context of this forum t...

sounds much better on vinyl than what you hear on youtube
I can only imagine how deep this must sound on vinyl. Youtube is a woefully inadequate way to consume music, yet without it I never would have heard this amazing track, so I shouldn't complain too hard

Re: EURORACK METALHEADS! Long Rant Warning.

Why is everybody talking about metal like it is a thing of the past? There has never been a better time for metal than right now (subjective, I know). If OP is looking for something heavy, there is a good amount of contemporary metal that is a lot heavier than the excellent and interesting music tha...

Re: Horror Themes

a release overtly inspired by these things with a horror movie style cover as this trope is played out Yes, its that particular way of presenting the music, the "imaginary film that never existed" that has been somewhat over exposed, more so than the music itself. A beautiful idea, that for the mom...

Re: Horror Themes

The whole faux italian horror movie thing seems to have become somewhat oversubscribed over the years. I'm huge fan of this type of material but I confess I've grown a little fatigued by it. Nonetheless, in my view, this is a very, very good example of that genre. Modern approximations are balanced ...

Re: MDLR Cases! worth it ?

No issues with the Konstant lab power so ? No noise ? I have two MDLR cases, an older one with the power internalised and a newer one with the Konstant Lab brick. I was a little apprehensive about the Konstant Lab but it is silent. No doubt some, with higher standards, would still say it is shite o...

Isn't ripples the obvious choice? It's certainly more suited to ambient than the doepfer wasp, which is pretty gnarly, although both are great filters.

Re: Opinions on the best semi modular to start out with.

I'm not sure the Matriarch is the clear winner as it is somewhat lacking compared to the Moog One. The Moog One only has 9 assignable CV I/O which makes it an ideal starter synth to dip your toe in modular waters. If you can afford it. Or you could buy a Neutron and 5k of Euro ;)

Re: Looking for module / patch ideas to create 70's choir synth

I don't seek to invalidate the advice offered, which sounds like a decent approach to try to achieve this sound, and maybe I am utterly wrong, but I'd always thought that these sounds were achieved by employing an actual choir.

Re: A nasty case of the clap

Looks fun, especially for 8HP.I don't see a distributor this side of the pond, though, sadly. Its a real frustration, shipping and import duty would probably amount to about £50. I'm not sure what customs tariff modules fall under but it is punishing, I always swear I will never do it again but the...

Re: chordal.. microsound dnb? (small patch recording)

I love those electric moments when something materialises out of nothing and you've just got to hit record. Sometimes you try and refine these things and they crumble to ashes anyway, its all momentary, and that is both the unfathomable beauty and the unfathomable frustration of making music
