Re: Site Migration Completed

I've been mulling it over for a few days, and I know this post won't win me any friends. I've decided I cannot let mskala and galanter2 stand alone, my conscience dictates that I must post, but I will keep it brief - This is not the correct thread to talk about a forum name change, but referring som...

Re: why do you prefer modular hardware to software?

Maybe I just like modular because it looks like a spaceship control panel and I love all the wires and blinking lights and knobs and sliders
And finally. The truth.

Re: So, MI Stages or traditional ADSR? Thoughts?

If you are looking for a trad ADSR, look no further than the Doepfer A-140, which is very cheap, quite small and sounds great within that traditional ADSR context. However, I would not want that to be my only EG, but depends what kind of stuff you do, I suppose :)

Re: Background electric noise problem

people are playing their partly filled modulars without any blank panels to cover the gaps I do not know a thing about electrical matters, but just from a common sense point of view, that is not a good idea. Although depending upon the orientation of your case, the risk of something horrible happen...

I'm guessing XAOC will update the 'firmware' if you call it that and we will have an evolving instrument

Re: Drew Schlesinger & David Torn: Summer Synthesis 1978

I've given the album a couple of serious listens now and it really is fantastic, top tier stuff, as good as anything available in this vein imo. Bravo. Have you got any other unknown synth masterpieces lurking in your archives??? ;)

Re: Generative Ambient

I find it difficult to come up with titles and I go into synth-land to de-stress after long days of hard work and child care. My brain just doesn't have much bandwidth left for nice titles I totally understand why dreaming up track titles is some way down your list of priorities! Great little...

Re: Starter Setup ?

OK fair enough, mfny.

If you are shopping at Thomann and really want to go full modular, what about starting with the Doepfer A-100LC3 low cost case?

Many, many forum members would disagree with me but personally I didn't find owning a semi modular a good way to start with modular.

Re: Starter Setup ?

normal "bread and butter" sounds
Not to discourage you if your heart is set on modular, but If you are looking for bread and butter, you would get far better value for your money with something like the Korg Minilogue XDM. I know that might not be what you want to hear though

The stands look really cool, but what I'm wondering is whether you ever lose things down that grille in the floor?

Re: Mad for wanting a single format only?

I totally understand where you are coming from, I've only been into modular for less than a year but I've disposed of quite a lot of non-modular gear since I started, as it seemed to become obsolete overnight. Not that it wasn't good gear, it was, but I knew I would never choose to use it again over...

Re: Generative Ambient

It's odd knowing it's 'just' a patch - kind of the creator's hands deep in the clockwork. It is odd, and I would be interested to read Lauprellim's thoughts about how connected he feels to the end product. Or was it just all about the process? If Lauprellim had not been so transparent about his pro...

Re: Generative Ambient

This is actually terrific. I think there are a lot of nice moments and if anyone is umming and ahhing about sitting through 30 minutes of a generative ambient patch, this recording is a good deal more dynamic than the title, ambient-patch-02, suggests, 13:06 - 15:25, just. fucking.wow. I don't know ...
