Re: The PERFECT Knob torque

Those solid metal knobs on Frap Tools and many Noise Engineering modules are probably my favorites. Frap Tools is the best overall, ultra-accurate for dialing but not too stiff, feels solid like you could hang a coat off them no problem, and it just feels luxurious to sweep the knobs on Brenso. Doep...

Re: What can a module give you that no DAW can?

Actual analog filters/oscs etc, actual amps/distortions etc rather than digital reproductions, and also the ability to hybridize these with whatever you want including going out of or into the DAW. Analog VCA saturation/feedback etc. I look at something like a Bionic Lester mkIII (or really the whol...

Re: Clock causing click?

You're probably looking at the wrong part; I don't recall my Pam's ever causing clicking (not saying it's impossible though). Switches typically aren't clickless when they're doing their thing. I've had ALM Boss Bow Tie, have a Boss Bow Two and Qu-bit Synapse and they all click. Usually a couple cha...

Re: Any basic, no-frills multi-trigger sample players?

Seems like Squarp Rample is ideal for that. Erica Sample Drum is in a similar vein but is up to two voices. There's also Squid Salmple which can basically do a whole kit (8 samples) at half the cost (and much smaller size) than say an Assimil8tor, but that's getting beyond the basic/no frills catego...

Re: Favorite module that no one knows?

Seconding VCNO; I was about to talk about it and was surprised someone else happened to bring it up. Maybe it's not so obscure after all, but it's not a very common module to see in racks much less out of Hexinverter gear. Basically, a yearish ago I was really looking forward to the Sonic Potions Ma...

Re: Cwejman ADSR's impact on sound

Possibly it could be the specific curvature settings on its log/expo modes that you prefer, in which case I'd suggest fiddling more with the curve setting on the Befaco for example to get them closer. That or perhaps the voltage on the outs is a little stronger than normal which would push it a litt...

Re: Is there a sampler(File Player) that you would consider a 'voice' ?

Squid Salmple is basically 3 voices in that three of its 8 samples per bank have v/oct built-in. It's also overall a far far more advanced module than STS (and is only 1hp larger) as well but can just play a sample for you if that's all you need. I mean, if just "something that plays a sample" is li...

Re: Recommend combo reverb delay

Do you have the space for a dedicated verb and dedicated delay? I mean might as well use both a Rainmaker and a Z-DSP or Erbe Verbe or some such and just mix them. I have a Rainmaker and EV myself and consider those bases well-covered. Not to mention, there are two very interesting-looking (as in po...

Re: THE SEARCH FOR A NEW FILTER

There are only a couple filters in Euro that actually will continuously morph between states as opposed to "state variable" really meaning "you toggle a switch or use a different output to get different modes." IME Bionic Lester mk3 will get you there and is in fact a dual filter with comb modes at ...

Re: Kermit Mk III as Quad Envelope Generator

I have the kermit mk3 and yeah, it's really an LFO/osc module to my own uses. It can "do envelopes" sort of like how Pamela's New Workout technically can as well, they'll work (in fact much better than PNW does them which is basically just an AR for a kick drum), but I'd much rather use a dedicated ...

Re: Sequencing Eurorack from Ableton Live

Midi to CV modules pretty seamlessly integrate a DAW at least for a couple modulation channels/gates and with basically 0 lag and not really caring about your comp's specs or how taxed your DAW is, as far as I've ever experienced. For example Mutable Yarns is a common one, and there is a miniature c...

Re: 3 modules to expand my Matriarch

Make Noise Erbe Verbe - Need the best reverb possible. So to be nitpicky Erbe Verbe is the "best" in one very specific way - everything on it is CV-able i.e can have an LFO, envelope or whatever stuck into modulating it, which allows all sorts of odd creative uses for it. Its actual character is a ...

Re: 3 modules to expand my Matriarch

2-3 is pretty tough to accomplish a lot in, I'd say you can either get a couple multi-function modules that do a lot but are pretty limited compared to more dedicated options, or the dedicated options with cool extras/capabilities you generally do not commonly find in hardwired synths that would ope...

Re: Instruō - Cš-L complex oscillator [CS-L]

The LEDs on the faders are like frickin high beams I cut out some little strips of white electric tape to cover them up with. Just needs to be a bit narrower in width than the fader and long enough to cover over/under and so far they look pretty good, not too different from normal only a far-softer...

Re: Pittsburgh Primary Oscillator advice

The Fragments out is probably the most unique thing about it, probably best described as an aliased/progressively glitcher-sounding waveform. That and the fact that it waveshapes between waveforms on the outs as you move the sliders up/down. Very few other oscs legitimately do that as opposed to cro...

Re: Best Comb Effect

IME Bionic Lester mk3. As a dual filter it actually can be a double-comb, serial or parallel, + or - and with continuous variation between +/- and also control over the delay times, all CV-able to boot. Plus it can also do more conventional filter duties as well if desired, technically has two VCAs ...

Not unwelcome to see new things in development, and a number of people had wanted to see a Stillson mk3 so that's not surprising. However I .. want to see more about the Volkmire's Inferno, personally. Between that, Andore Jr and Malgo mk3, there's also now this somewhere out there in the mist.

Complex oscs were already mentioned but that's your serious one-stop answer right there, case closed. Research Frap Brenso, Instruo Cs-L, Make Noise DPO, Verbos Complex Osc, Endorphin.es Furthrrrr. Also, Hexinverter Mindphaser seems due to be coming out soon and looks promising. On top of those, tho...

Folktek modules, very specifically Matter II with its mystery pin matrix being literally designed to mess around on with and "fascinate" as it were. Also, Erbe Verb being contorted under lots of CV. 4ms VCA Matrix for figuring out all the many ways you can manipulate signals, self-patching CV all ar...

Re: Favorite Smoothed Random

So I have a Sapel but find the smooth random really frustrating. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Basically, unless i crank up the speed, i have found that it doesn't tend deviate much from 3-4 volts. It basically never hits 1 or 5 volts. It's more like a random walk that never really goes anywhere...

I have just one ACL module, Variable Sync VCO, but it's really, really, really good. Ultra sturdy construction. I happen to really really like the Voltage Block, but for modulating CV on things besides oscillators. Zero menus yet has intuitive preset storage, takes 1 second to navigate around channels ...

I have a Rnd Step, and it does hold for quite a little while, about as long as you could realistically need it - but does droop after a couple minutes. Or at least, mine does. So no, it's not some impossible / dubious wizardry, but, it is a damn fine quality S&H. Six of them rather.

Re: Noob question about Low Pass Gates

It is quite possible to run a signal through both filters and LPGs and I've sometimes found this useful, especially using long-decay LPGs. Once you start A/B'ing between vactrol/VCA you'll get the difference; quite often I've gone with vactrol -> VCF over VCA -> VCF (or vice versa for either of thos...
