Re: Korg Wavestate

Has anybody thought about making a "Subharmonicon" style patch on the Wavestate? It seems like the MOOG Subharmonicon, could be emulated on the Wavestate, with the various lanes and timing capabilities. And the Wavestate would have more flexibility, and options than the MOOG Subharmonicon. Would lov...

Re: Soma - LYRA-8 DIY Kit

Here are some pictures of the progress I am making, with the case and knobs for my LYRA-8. I glued together some dark and light colored hardwood, for the sides and used 3 coats of oil based varnish, to seal the wood. For the knobs (except frequency), I used a hole saw to cut them from a wood panel. ...

Re: Re:

Everything works! No voices triggering all the time. I was worried since I don't have any Kapton film. But I coated the hell out of the underside with a matte coating, and it seems to have done the trick. I also used shrink tubing around each knurled screw. alongside some plastic washers. Now I got...

Re: Soma - LYRA-8 DIY Kit

LYRA-8 front panel notes ver-A.JPG These are some changes/additions to the faceplate graphics that I have in mind. Adding frames around all the text to make it more obvious what knob/switch it is connected to. Adding "ON/OFF" to some of the switches to differentiate between, switches that select so...

Re: Soma - LYRA-8 DIY Kit

Thank you so much for such a detailed response, WD. In the process of hunting for the problem, disconnected the board, removed the face plate and after reassembly, works perfectly. So somewhat embarrassingly, have no real insight as to what was wrong. Suspect it was some weird grounding issue with ...

Re: Soma - LYRA-8 DIY Kit

Thanks for sharing your build notes Wavy Davy! Is it just me, or does it look like two of the diodes on the main board are not soldered? Cheers, B A few notes on some mistakes, problems, and things I would do different with my build. IMG_1285.jpg Thanks for the tip about missing solder on some diod...

Anybody help a brother troubleshoot? Another picture of my LYRA-8 build.
This is the recycled realestate sign I used for my face plate.
I used the blank front panel board, to mark the holes.

Re: Soma - LYRA-8 DIY Kit

I finished my LYRA-8 build, and am having a lot of fun playing with it. A few notes on some mistakes, problems, and things I would do different with my build. Mistakes: I substituted a few caps, that were out of stock, and ordered ones that had too high a voltage, and thus were too large to fit in b...

Re: Soma - LYRA-8 DIY Kit

Today I started installing all the potentiometers and switches into the front panel, for my Lyra-8 synth. There are a lot of them πŸ™‚ Next I have to wire them to the printed circuit board. Then I will create a box with faceplate to put it in, and labels for all the controls. Also have plans to use my ...

Re: Soma - LYRA-8 DIY Kit

Finished installing the capacitors today. There are two basic kind, polarized and non polarized. The polarized ones look like little cans, and are called Electrolytics. Completing different stages of my current Lyra-8 synthesizer project. Here is the main board with all the resistors installed. And the checklist I use, to keep track of my progress... Starting a new synthesizer build. This is the Lyra-8 from SOMA, a company located in Russia. I haven't received my boards, yet (on the water)

Can someone measure the faceplate pcb and tell me what the dimensions are?

Thx!
The faceplate board, that the pots/switches mount on, is 10 inches by 10 inches.

Re: TC-11

Thanks WD, much appreciated! I got TC-11 some time ago but have found it a bit intimidating. TC-Data looks cool too, have you tried that? Yes, TC-11 can seem a little overwhelming at first, because it is so powerful, and full of options, but a little patience, and a few reads through the manual, wi...

TC-11 and low storage space available.

About TC-11 and low storage space available.
I had a problem with TC-11 not showing me some of the options in it, when my iPad ran out of storage.
After deleting some unneeded files (pictures in my case), and freeing up storage, TC-11 returned to normal operation.

Re: Soma - LYRA-8 DIY Kit

One thing that I was surprised to have trouble sourcing, because the parts I have seen are so expensive, is the "thumb screws". Since 16 are required, the cost adds up fast. Can those who have made this, tell me what they purchased, from where, and at what cost per thumb screw? I would be most grat...

Re: Soma - LYRA-8 DIY Kit

The Schlappi 100 grit sounds cool, and those brass touch bumps, would be good for a Lyra-8 build. Gives me an idea for using cap nuts I like your backlight idea. Re: Soma - LYRA-8 DIY Kit

It would be convenient to have all the parts come with the kit, or at least a complete accurate BOM with vender sources/part#s. But I knew that was not the case, when I started this. I'm taking the attitude that, I will use the BOM + extra parts suggested, then proceed with the build, with the expec...

Signal flow direction, and Modules (modulators)

One of the first things I want to point out is... Many of us are used to the signal flowing from left to right, starting with the oscillators, then filters and ending with amplifiers. The patch editor for TC-11 , Starts at the top of the screen and works its way down. Each section of the synthesizer...

TC-11 is easy to use, and has a powerful synth engin.

TC-11 is very easy to use (one of the easiest) if you only play with the presets. The manual is well written, and describes all the parts of the synth in detail, with good graphics. You can look at or download the manual here TC-11 Manual When I was ready to go past just playing the presets, I found...
