Re: What new booty did you buy?

Finally picked up a Novation Peak after ditching all of my desktops synths. Just hope it plays ball with my Keystep.

Re: What is the worst synth sounding you ever bought and why ?

Erebus V3, because it sounded like a dial-up modem. An issue with the auto-tuning routine made it pretty much unusable.

Re: Dreadbox - Typhon

I'm still scarred for life after the Erebus V3 and it's damn auto-tuning routine that sounded like a dial-up modem played through a megaphone into a cave full of bees. Passing on this one but would be very interested in a new Abyss.

X1L3 Underwurlde - esoteric delay looper

One of the glitch buttons is essentially a "push this to destroy your song" function. Love it.

Re: What new booty did you buy?

Picked up some pedals for use with my drone synths:

Catalinbread Anticthon
Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water
Keely Mod Workstation

Things are about to get extremely weird in my apartment.

I've been on the fence about buying one of these for about 18 months and the last three pages of this thread have pushed me off the edge.

Not electronic, but you should listen to My Disco - Paradise.

Re: Modules that FEEL good

Noise Engineering have the best knob-game in town IMO. They feel so heavy and strong, when you twist those encoders on the loquelic you feel like you're controlling the thermostat of the universe. Honourable mention to Bastl encoders and faders too - feel like they're meant to be slammed around and ...

Doepfer A-189 Bit Crusher and Sample Rate Reduction will literally make your signal lo-fi, but I get the feeling that's not what you actually want.

Re: "Get lost in the sounds of YouTube’s growing ambient modular synth community"

I think the style of "modular self-generating ambient" OP refers to is a necessary stepping stone in the learning process for a lot of people. Some people linger there a bit longer, or make a career out of it. A certain amount of antagonism between members of a musical scene for the purposes of prom...

Re: Modules with lots of jacks

Surprised no-one has mentioned the WMD Synchrodyne+Epander yet. The Expander is even bigger than the parent module. For a laugh you can go back through the original MW thread when William was asking for input from Wigglers about what the Synch should be, it's a case-study in how mass consultation le...

Re: Do I need a VCA to hear Audio from MI Rings

You won't need a VCA to hear it, but I think you'll need something to strum/trigger rings. Fingertips on a cable tip may work, but gates/triggers are normally used.

Re: Advice on first eurorack

Only thing I think I can add beyond what has already been said, is to encourage you to go for cheap 2nd hand versions of the new, boutique stuff you have. -Arbhar is probably a mindblowing module, but if it's for your first rack, why not start with a used morphagene or even phonogene? -From the 10 s...

Re: Modular synth for synthwave/darkwave

Don't go eurorack if you want to remain focused on synthwave/darkwave. One option that immediately springs to mind is Korg Minilogue XD + Drum Machine + VSTs + Ableton. The Korg Wavestate (or whatever the new wavetable synth from Korg is called) could be a good substitute, but I've used the 'logue b...

Re: Bastl x Casper: WAVER

Did they get Ross Fish to help out with the video? Looks sick. I played a set late last year that was based solely on crossfading and blending different harsh drones, and after the gig I thought "damn, there must be a module that makes this easier to manage." Casper bringing the goods yet again.

X1L3 modules. Sounds like plumes of acrid filth spewing from a radioactive sewer vent. Going to make several videos about these, and they will be featured on my next album.

For more experimental glitch i use Wreckage or some other harsh noise module into Punching Panda (env/vca made for "punchy" percussion). This can easily get into NE territory. Wreckage is an absolutely f*cking psychotic module for drones. I'm making an overview video about it this holiday period, b...
