Microvolt 3900 build quality, sound, stand-ins

I am not sure this goes in the “modular” area, but hopefully not the wrong place completely. I recently bought a Microvolt on eBay and I found some issues with it. Crackling scratchy pots, flimsy sliders, and jacks that are shaky, and in a couple of places, the signal completely cuts out if the jack...

Re: Expert Sleepers ESX-8MD MIDI/DINsync Expander released

Thanks very much for your reply. Ok I guess I have a bad mental model of this setup but if I think about it, I cannot fix the delays in the receiving hardware. I wrote a bunch of questions but erased them. The fact is, my synths have processing latency of anywhere from 1ms up to over 20ms, and jitte...

Re: Expert Sleepers ESX-8MD MIDI/DINsync Expander released

Hi, I am thinking about using the ES-3 / ES-5 / ESX-8MD combo to connect my DAW to my hardware synths. I have a subset of synths and modules that could be fed CV/Gate, so this setup would cover that use case as well. I have licenses for Cubase, Ableton, Reaper, FL Studio and Reason, but I have gotte...

Re: Would you pay a yearly sub to join a gear lending library?

This is a great idea and I have been talking to friends who are also coders or investors about starting something like it. Each gear bought and sold so many times, with taxes, fees, just so more people can use it? Seems like and opportunity to find a lower energy state. A secondary feature of the se...

Re: Market normalization - ModularBid

The frictional costs are too high. The costs of duplicated effort are needlessly high. Making a list of things to buy is different then submitting a specification of your desired system and inviting builders to offer a system at competitive cost thst hopefully sounds better or as good as the other b...

Market normalization - ModularBid

Here is an idea. You might hate it but the intention Is to factor out the majority of modular synthesis that duplicates, echos, repeats the features of modular across products, and players’ setups. I don’t know much about modular, I only own a few modular and semi modular pieces. So the site is like...

Re: NerdSEQ Portable

In the meantime are there any original nerdseq in stock anywhere? I will have everything in stock again within 2 weeks if they are not any delays or problems. Else, check the distributors: https://xor-electronics.com/distributors/ thank you. I am reading up on the nerdseq - I am not a historical tr...

Re: Gaps, filling in, why hardware

I did find a kurzweil k2500rs Judy now for 550 which at the current moment is a pretty good deal. That should provide some possibilities that are not just OSC/filter subtractive boringness

Re: Gaps, filling in, why hardware

I had a k2600xs sold it for the pc4, now I have no kurzweil. It is more cost effective to just get another pc4 rather than pay 1900 dollars for a vintage k2600r I can afford it but would be really sad when it’s time to send it for last rites at the technicians house for 2 months A weird situation. I...

Re: Gaps, filling in, why hardware

Ive tried making music in the box and I'll probably end up there again at some point. But it'd way more fun and Ive learned significantly more from hardware. The Hands on workflow has brought more joy than any software. I got to play around with a peak and Id recommend it. It has a great lay out an...

Gaps, filling in, why hardware

I don’t know why I am so obsessed with hardware, maybe too many bad software experiences in professional life I limit the role my PC can play. It can record midi ( in the DAW) , play midi, and one or two vsts that’s it. I have a number of synths including the Pc roughly equal to the number of midi o...

Yes I agree completely

You trying to be a good person = me getting really angry

Don’t try to impose ideas about morality or compassion on us, there is no such thing as a good person, don’t pretend there is.

I have a midigal that does this, it dkes a good job of making poly voice allocations to separate midi outs. It also does other useful things so it's generally good to have

Re: Never meet your heroes

I feel lucky reading this. I have turned around a lot of gear the last year and a half since I got serious about playing keyboard. But nothing heroic. My Integra, Kronos and matrix brute are my biggest single purchases and I still have them. They were selected for overall utility, and they have deli...

Re: NerdSEQ Portable

I am excited about this tool. I have never successfully gotten my modular career off the ground so this looks more suitable for me. Question - can the NerdSeq load and play midi files say from my computer? I currently push SMF files to my MPC 4000, which acts as my final midi sequencer with sufficie...

Re: Volca at NAMM 2020

Second to Yamaha in what way? Organs? Montages? They beat Yamaha in Kronoses. They seem about equal on arrangers, with Yamaha having a higher end offering if I am not mistaken. All Existing volcas seem to trump all existing refaces summed together in features or units sold? But yes Yamaha seems to b...
