Re: Solution to clogged hole with solder

I have a Hakko FR-300 desoldering gun and I find when the last bits of solder are not coming out, it is time to disassemble and clean the diaphragm. While the ceramic filter does a good job at keeping the solder out, rosin can make it's way back into the pump. There are also various sized tips you c...

Re: MS20 VCO instability

Just throwing this out there because I as well am working on an original MS20.. Although this one was extremely well cared for and stored in plastic for the better of 10 years..what I found to suffer the most damage over time, other than the electrolytics, was the patch bay. Nearly all of my jacks h...

Re: Arturia PolyMatrix / PolyBrute coming?

I wish they would have kept the analog filters in the Iridium But I understand cost and such.. I haven't played one yet so I can't speak to the quality of the digital filters but I have been messing around on a Quantum and while it is extremely nice and diverse all I can say is: Poly-after touch as ...

Re: What new booty did you buy?

Woke up this morning to a text from a friend who needed some quick cash 20200929_112317.jpg So it was a package deal..Korg SQ-10 MS-10 and a Drumfire 2000 The Korg's will need servicing.. But with my vintage MS20 Mk1 and MS20mini, I am now one-step closer to a poor man's PS3100 lol :nana: :bananagui...

Re: Kawai K3 custom waveforms

Interesting! Thank you EatYourGuitar! I always enjoy reading your posts. I was hoping by the off chance that someone offered a turnkey solution and I had missed it. One of the reasons there are so many K3's in my friend pool is because one of them purchased the remaining stock of K3 and other Kawai ...

Re: Solder Removal

I use a Hakko FR-301 It's spendy but I've never damaged a compnent with it..and the sheer amount of time saved is worth it alone. I'm still learning but the first time I saw another tech use one, he recapped all the voice boards on a Memorymoog in under an hour, casually while we were talking..I kne...

Kawai K3 custom waveforms

I have a K3 on it's way to me currently and I was wondering With so many homebrew modifications coming out, breathing new life into vintage synths It would seem the Kawai K3 would be ripe for modification. I know past projects have added additional waveforms to the Korg DW-8000 and many older drum m...

Re: What new booty did you buy?

Thanks! I recently Recapped an old Traynor TS-120b 140 watts solid state and a transformer that could kill a full grown man. But the icing on the cake was I had the speaker re-conned by HEMPOPOTAMUS out of Ohio I opted for the works! and he marveled at the size of the old magnets, said they dont mak...

Re: SMT: alternatives to hand-soldering?

Thank you! Still trying to wrap my ahead around it. I have a Hyve kit thats been on the shelf until I work up the courage. But I wouldn't mind paying the 10 bucks for a stencil if it helps me learn. I know that's probably just me tho, alot of DIY is about saving money and I understand that as well. ...
