Re: Drone/Ambient starting rack

Great thread. I've slowly put together this system for drone, ambient, noise, industrial, exploration & exploitation. Supplements other hardware for techno/electro. OT does samples/sequencing, RYTM does percussion etc. Also have outboard fx, Space & Particle plus OT. What I probably should get: Enve...

Re: Top 5 modules?

Would be interesting to see what comes out tops from all these posts! I wondered this and as I have nothing better to do I make a spreadsheet. I haven't counted after your post but modules with 4 or more votes are as follows; Maths Make Noise 20 Rings Mutable Instruments 16 Pamela's New Workout ALM...

WMD protostar for noise/feedback

Anyone tried using one of these to animate distortions/in a feedback loop? Looks like it has a lot of options for kicking out different functions, plus filtering & compression. It would pair nicely with the drone commander and 669cv with the cv connections too... https://www.wmdevices.com/products/p...

Re: Sound source wisdom - or how you can predict your sound journey

My first euro oscillator, after falling foul if the gateway 0-coast, was a DPO. I wanted it for its amazing modulatable drones and FM, the amount of low end is astounding. Drop a bunch of long envelopes and LFOs into it, push it out through some reverb and drift away... This is the video that got me...

DPO or the Grendel drone commander + expander. Synthesis technology is great but the grendel gets to the point immediately.
Indeed it does - I run a DC pedal into the modular where it meets the DPO amongst other things. Superb.

Re: Deciding what to get to complete my 1u row

I second noise tools - S&H, slew, noise sources plus clock is a lot of functions for the space I think. Depending whether or not you use the line ins on the audio I/O you might want to consider the smaller line out 1u. I swapped audio I/O for 2x line out 1us and now I have 4x outs from my 7u case in...

Re: Did your Modular Grid go as planned?

I blame MG partly for starting to buy Euro modules. I spent loads of time on there designing systems from modules that sounded cool without having much clue what I was doing. Still do I guess! Equally guilty are the Make Noise 0-coast and Dreadbox NYX (directly responsible for me getting my first mo...

The fact that large swaths of people despise noise makes the experience into a punk rock one.

Re: What is it about the musical genre "noise" that you find appealing?

Oh also, this is something I would consider pushing back against mentally: Listen for the (phantom) rhythms, and try to find the structure. They're often buried or nearly imperceptible, but that doesn't mean they're non-existent. They can sometimes be the key to the whole thing. This is what it's a...

Re: First Sequencer in eurorack or Octatrack?

I also think there's value in having more than one sequencer around. I was initially really against that thinking it was 'too complicated'. But then there are times when I want to get exactly what's in my head down in as little time as possible (I use the MPC/synths). Then there are times when I wan...

I’m building a Plague Bearer this weekend. It’ll be my third DIY module and first more complex module. Wish me luck. Everyone said the thing is crazy. I got a rev4 a month ago. It’s crazy but also filled with subtle sweet spots. You’ll love it. How do you find the gain knob? I find the Input contro...
