Re: Panning with LFO while skipping/not sounding the mid

What doesn't work about a square wave? You aren't really explaining what end result you want very well. I can think of several ways to interpret and implement what you are saying.

Re: What's the secret?

If you mean the line that goes G# A# F . F . . D# G# A# D# . D# D . ., start with a square wave into a lowpass filter into a VCA.

Re: Decoupled gates from notes in sequencer?

The most basic of what you are asking is a trigger sequencer (or a gate sequencer) and CV sequencer. Then if you really feel the need, a quantizer, but if you are good at tuning the CV sequencer steps by ear you don't even need that. Are there CV sequencers that can take a rhythmic sequence in plac...

Re: Why are so many vendors/manufacturers low or out on stock?

I guess I assumed most manufacturing was out sourced to China, which seemed to miss what the US and Europe are experiencing. Yes. China didn't have quite what the US and Europe have dealt with because they had a serious lockdown early on. Then lagging behind that was a dwindling of electronics comp...

Re: Modules indispensable for drone

Lots of subtle modulation. A looper - I like to build a drone out of sounds with a long attack and release with changes between each "note" so there is always some changes as they overlap and replace one another.

Re: Understanding triggers.

The definitions that I prefer (and sounds like you do too) are: a trigger is a unipolar pulse of determinate, though not necessarily fixed, length - there is only a start condition; a gate is a unipolar pulse of indeterminate length dependent on a start and end condition. Each to their own definiti...

Nothing is going to beat a computer. That said, Kurzweil K2xxx series with sampling is going to give you a lot. A Paca and Kyma would give you a lot too.

MOTU 16A has 16 ins and 16 outs plus 2 sets of ADAT i/o. No headphone out. No mic pre-amps. AVB if you wanted to set up an AVB network with other interfaces.

Re: Pros/cons THIS setup vs Buchla Music Easel

Pros and cons are really going to depend on what you want to do. To me, that the Easel had much less going on with the interface than this would be an advantage. This having more options would be an advantage. Patching this would be much more cluttered than the Easel. When you get a good familiarity...

Re: 10pin or 16pin connectors for bus board?

16 is the standard, yes. You could do 10 pin, but you would only be able to use modules that don't need the 5v line. You will also need to make sure the ribbon connectors you are using are keyed the same way as your headers. And if the module's power connector is shrouded, you will need to make sure...

Re: input level external device.

You can patch a line level signal straight in, but it will be really quiet to the point that is it probably unusable. You will get the best results amplifying the external signal to modular level.

Re: Nastiest ring-mod module for that Star Wars comms-distortion effect?

Yeah, ring modulator will get you that sound. Any one will work, honestly, it doesn't have to be particularly nasty. If you wanted something slightly noisier you could mix a little bit of noise with the carrier, or use a square wave or something. For the movie it is probably the ring mod on the ARP ...

Re: Music you sort of get but can't get get into

Patti Smith - Horses. I've tried four times. OK, it's spirited... I feel that for sure. For me, that album took listening to Richard Hell And The Voidoids' Blank Generation, then Television's Marquee Moon, then the Patti Smith Group's Radio Ethiopia before I had my "ah ha!" moment with it. All that...

Re: Music you sort of get but can't get get into

Almost all prog rock. The only band that gets the "prog" label that I absolutely love is Voivod. Jam bands. It is basically prog rock via dicking around. Pink Floyd without Syd Barrett. Switched On Bach. Tangerine Dream, except they have a handful of albums I like. The Beach Boys. Radiohead. Most ps...
