Re: How do you arrange your modules?

I've looked at how modules are arranged in so premade systems like the Make Noise or the Random*Source Mantra for inspiration.
So usually it's something like MIDI/sequencer/oscillators/mixer/modulation/filters/VCAs

Re: Today my small discovery was...

That you can plug a trig sequencer into Marbles' t Clock inputs, I always though you could only use steady clocks.
A whole new world of melodies opened up.

Re: Modular-as-a-synth-voice: What modules are "essentials&

While roaming on "what modules should I get first?" topics for a while (and even writing my own) I never got a satisfying answer because it depends so much on what you want to do and what the people replying see as necessary, so I decided to pursue a little analysis on my own by looking at 26 pre-ma...

Re: Starter Setup ?

I would say look at demos and trust your guts on this, it's really difficult to decide for you. The pico seems like it is a more complete system with a sequencer, two oscillators, two low pass gate, a delay and a memory card system, plus you can buy it as a module and kickstart your system with that...

Re: Starter Setup ?

I believe that the following configuration can be accessible in your budget if you focus on buying second hand: Doepfer A-190-2 as a small MIDI interface for playing with an external controller ALM MCO as oscillator Doepfer A-124 as VCF Make Noise Maths as modulation source mainly, but all sorts of ...

Re: Drum machine recommendations for OT

Don't discount dedicated sample based drum machines, stuff like the Volca Sample or the Model:Samples are really not costly and they can really be all you need for your drum duties. The Model Samples has filters, distorsion, delay, reverb, and the Elektron sequencer while the Volca Sample can be se...

Re: Signal flow for live modular performance

I have never managed to make a master reverb sound good, the kick always lose a lot of its impact.
I would say use it on a send channel

Re: Starter Setup ?

For that budget a more sensible way to start would be a semi modular like a 0-Coast or a Mother 32 depending on what type of synthesis you're more interested in. You'll get a functionning system, with a lot more functionnalities than what you could afford with that budget. And then you can expand.

The one that I listened to the most is Live and Dangerous by Thin Lizzy.
Can't even imagine being in that crowd, they were so good live!

Which 6hp VCO?

Hey everybody, I want to add a second VCO to my rack and I'm really tempted by the 6hp format which would fit perfectly into my case. Just so you know, my current oscillator is Plaits. Right now I am torn between the Godspeed+, the Ts-L and the MCO which all seem to have their strength (MCO being a ...

Went to my local Synth/modular store (Modularsquare in Paris) with a vague idea that I wanted something patchable to play with. Initially I was leaning towards the 0-Coast but on my way there I rewatched demos of Plaits and Stages and began thinking "I can't do that with a 0--Coast". Then I arrived ...

When I switched to stricly using my Digitone/Octatrack combo for producing ideas, and doing the arrangement/mixing/mastering in Ableton. Super fun and tactile control of the sounds et melodies on the machines and very intuitive manipulation of audio in the box, with the added limitation of not being...

Sorry I did not see your reply until now.
You're right I should just focus on making music.
I'm now trying to combine both synths architectures in one case so it's become a fun inspiration :)

I will be looking at those too :) Regarding Oscillators, I'm not commited to digital ones at all, in fact I think a nice analog one would be a good completment to Plaits soundwise. Of...

Thanks for all your replies! Dedal Yes, I'm thinking about a more interesting filter for sure, but the A-106-5 will do for the moment, it was the cheap available one at the store when i bought my system. Regarding Quad VCA, I really like it, it's cascading so I can use it as a mixer, drives nicely, ...

Oh self patching Stages can be so much fun! You can use one stage as clock, a second one as a clock divider, and then a third as an LFO to modulate the divider. If you then modulate the LFO with another stage as LFO, you can get some really interesting patterns going. And then you realise that both ...
