Re: Disting MK4 quantizers: Modes like locrian, dorian, phrygian etc?
Ah ok, that's very interesting, thanks a lot for the responses. I think I was assuming e.g. Dorian and Major were different because I was mis-interpretating this René scales cheat sheet. Makes much more sense now. Thank you!

Disting MK4 quantizers: Modes like locrian, dorian, phrygian etc?
My music theory limited (read near-absent) knowledge might have me make wrong assumptions here, but does anyone know if there is some sort of cheat sheet that would indicate which scales match modes? E.g. all your vco's are tuned to the same root note, you're building a patch that you know is in Dor...

Re: MakeNoise Mimeophon
I have got my mimeophone for a week now, allready using it in DAW productions. Its incredible musical, very inspiring and from subtile to drastic, it stays musical. It reminds of the moog spirit, but now its translated into a delay. Also great how it drops jaws when producer buddy joins the session...

Re: Intellijel Quadrax
Is it possible to get a stepped random cv out of Quadrax using the alt random lfo mode? Or will I need to patch it into a sample and hold? Just tried for you, I don't think it is possible without a s&h, there seems to be at least some slew in every combination of settings I just used with the alter...

Re: Mannequins' Cold Mac??
Can anybody recommend a good weighty knob to replace the one Cold Mac comes with? I've never replaced any knobs before but I was expecting something nice and heavy and was quite let down by the feel. If it's really the feel that's your issue, just changing the knob will not affect the feedback or r...

Re: Mutable Instruments Beads (Clouds 2)
I'm looking forward to play with mine when it arrives. In the meantime, the manual states that the rerverb is "modeled on the acoustics of Thoreau’s cabin, or of a strip-mall spa". I looked up Thorerau's cabin, but that did not strike me as a very reverby enclosure... Can anyone elaborate on this? ...

Re: how do *you* sequence your acid bass lines
I use a FutureRetro Orbs. Its desktop but has cv/gate/accent out and the remix function always surprizes me with good stuff. Also now that Rene v2 has new firmware, it handles slides differently and acidly-ish.. Sequence on x channel and accent on y channel gate? Only just installed it, but seems p...

Re: Intellijel Quadrax
Interesting, thanks for the replies. For some reason, I always assumed it was possible since even the manual mentions things like AHR envelopes. On MI's Stages, even though each "stage" has its own output, it's possible for the first output of a chain of events to spit out the CV of the others, I wo...

Re: Intellijel Quadrax
Apologies if this was already discussed, I just can't seem to find this information for some reason: how do you get chained CV to come out of a single output? I have been playing around with chains by using the OR of Cold Mac or a mixer, but is there a way to have everything come out of a single inp...

Re: Cure for GAS?
Sometimes we tend to believe the illusion that just because it's "modular", we can modulate our way to the perfect system… and very conveniently, it happens to be a perfect excuse to pursue that dopamine kick. The reality is that non-perfect systems are the most enjoyable systems (in fact, they are...

Re: Cure for GAS?
It's also interesting to think about what exactly makes one buy modules. It's possible that if it wasn't for modular, the people who have a very severe case of GAS would still exhibit some form of addictive behaviour, one way or another. If what you're really after is the dopamine kick you get from ...

Re: First time rack feedback
You may have a decent idea of what you want to achieve, but I would be careful of two things: - Some of the modules you got have specific workflows that may or may not be your cup of tea if you haven't experienced playing with a modular system for a little bit. For example, in my early days I though...

Re: Intellijel Quadrax
At it's shortest length the Quadrax attack is literally 0 samples long, so pretty much instant rise. That kind of transient is just going to have a bit of an audible click. The envelopes used to be slightly longer at minimum and didn't click, but people specifically requested them to be faster / ab...

Re: Intellijel Quadrax
Has anyone else noticed that the EG's attack tends to produce an audible click when it's extremely short? I often use very sharp attacks with exponential curves on VCAs or filters, and while the click can be aesthetically suitable with certain musical environments, sometimes you just want a good old...

Re: Disting Feature Requests
Interesting, thanks for the response. Do you think there's a case for a CV version of this at some point? Out of curiosity, is the main challenge the fact that CV would require the algorithm to analyse and average out the incoming signal, while everything is already "parsed" with midi?

Re: Disting Feature Requests
I was wondering if a sort of "scale learn" feature would be possible on the MK4's quantizers (or even better: it's already there somewhere and I just never noticed). Here's the ideal scenario: - You select the chromatic scale on e.g. H-3 (or even no scale at all if you want to go microtonal) - You p...

Re: New 2018 MakeNoise Rene
The new little feature is quite neat I have to say. If you've always wanted to make 303-style linked glided notes, it's pretty great. I didn't expect too much of it when I was watching the video, but I've been having great fun improvising techno basslines . It's also a simple and fun way to give lif...

Re: Disting Ex - no longer working (noise issue)
Is it a constant issue even after restarting the module? I've had a few crashes, all preceded by a noise while playing the SD 6 Triggers algo, but it didn't continue after rebooting. Note that I haven't noticed it so far after switching to a Sandisk Ultra 32 GB card (not sure if it's related though,...

I have had also the same issues unfortunately from the start:( I tried re-calibrating, reformatting plus using a different SD card I had lying around. Not much improvement unfortunely. Intially it would crash any time I would browse quickly through the sample folder - which seems better now, howeve...

Good points about getting the values written in the memory by just changing sections or using Scan, I never thought of doing this. That would explain why it sometimes seems to just go away for no apparent reason.

On the modulation front, there's also the Quadrax, which is a bit of a successor to the Quadra. Whenever you're patching, what is the most frequent thing that comes to mind when you hit a wall and go "I wish I could do XYZ right now"? You may get more specific suggestions if you let us know

Re: New 2018 MakeNoise Rene
I've been happily using my René 2 for months and there's a small quirk about it that I'd like to confirm with you guys, just to be sure it's not only happening with my unit: when a pitch knob is right at the limit between two quantized notes, the notes sometimes just randomly switch, rapidly jumping...
