Re: Quarantined for 2 months with one synth...

500$ or less, what would you chose? well, not exactly a synth, but hey, i'm a drummer. Roland HandSonic HPD-15. a bit less than $500 is fair price for used unit in good condition. i don't use anything else at the moment, at least until i finish making CC-to SysEx convertor for conntrolling it compl...

But what about the start/stop and value knob?
no way, at least at the moment. and i strongly suspect they have only green LEDs behind.

Re: Roland MC-707 Groovebox

Is it possible to change the colour of all the knobs and sliders on the MC? yes, they are all configurable. you can reassign colors per track somewhere in Track settings. but i suspect that it's kept somewhere in project settings, so keeping your custom color layout may require making an empty defa...

Re: Strange MIDI loop question for gear

well, basically you can do it with a lot of gear that has MIDI in and out (either USB or DIN). the downside is that you have to sacrifice some track(s) for this trick to work. i myself do it with my gear, e.g. MC-707. not aware of any gear designed specifically for this use case (without sacrificing...

Re: Analog Synths with midi cc over parameters

probably DSI Tetra — but it has complete MIDI control of all parameters via NRPNs, not CC. only limited subset of parameters is controlled via CC.

same for many other DSI machines (Mophos, Prophet '08, etc).

did not own this, but considered to buy.
some demos are available on youtube, i really liked them.
and it has very cool arpeggiator, which rocks when performing live.
did not buy it because it's not very backpack friendly, but maybe someday.

Re: Roland MC-707 Groovebox

So people still liking their mc707s? no. loving, not liking! this thing stopped my GAS, since i'm satisfied with it. TBH, it's a bit insufficient as a single machine, but once paired with something else, it's just excellent. I just wonder if the rompler samples are still that useable ? Even if you ...

Re: Do you one take tracks? Help me learn how to be like you!

yes, i do.
requires: quite a lot of rehearsals, a proper sequencer (e.g. Squarp Pyramid), and a multitrack recorder (e.g. Zoom LiveTrak L-12).
i often just record rehearsals — who knows when a good take happens.

Roland MC-707
Squarp Pyramid
Axoloti Core
DSI Tetra (well, bought it second hand, but it was almost impulse purchase, and it turned to be a keeper).

Re: Groovebox as master controller & sequencer

used to use RM1x and then Command Station as master controller & sequencer. RM1x has only 1 MIDI Out, and that's its main downside. also, its synth sounds are certainly dated, but drums/percussions are still perfectly usable, so i used it as a rhythm machine and a sequencer for external multitimbral...

i made some Beastep templates for tweaking PreenFM2 some time ago (did not use it for a while). Beatstep in controller mode supports NRPN well. templates included such things as modulation indices, LFO rates, arp and envelope parameters. the filter in PreenFM2 is not good, and hardly usable for anyt...

it's not the form factor that makes the MV its the features absolutely agree. but „MC-707 vs MV-8800“ discussion somehow happens in a topic about 707 on every forum, be it GS, elektronauts, MW, etc, and some people say „what Roland should make / what everyone actually wants is new 8800 instead of 7...

technically, phase distortion is a particular case of phase modulation (which is a particular case of frequency modulation). in phase distortion, modulator and carrier are synchronized by cycle — that's its key characteristic. so, i strongly suspect that some FM-capable engines (e.g. Blofeld) can ac...

looked at MV-8800 specs. 48 x 48 x 13,5 cm, 9 kg. definitely not a box i would tour with, especially if i'm not a superstar, and especially in 2019 (and low cost airlines will only cut down allowed luggage sizes more and more). on the other hand, 707 was instant (almost impulse) purchase for me, bec...

PreenFM2.
many parameters are controllable via CC, and all parameters via NRPN.
also, (limited) compatibility with DX7 patches.
