Re: OXI ONE - Powerful and expressive sequencer for DAW, MIDI gear and Modular rigs

Is this only able to be powered via micro USB? When will manufacturers learn not to make those crappy and incredibly breakable ports a critical structural component? Jesus.

Re: Did anyone start big and no regrets?

I think it's a good idea to buy a big rack at first, but maybe not fill it all immediately, unless you have a very very specific idea of what you're trying to do - for example - I want to make a super-flexible mono-synth to support my octatrack house music or something similar. Then start with a ver...

Re: $1000 Drone build challenge

If you're already starting from having a no-input mixing setup then either build a eurorack full of gnarly filters and effects or add a standalone box like the Lyra or if you want to inch more towards modular territory you could go with a Plankton Electronics ANTS! EDIT: My distaste for Behringer as...

Re: $1000 Drone build challenge

Lyra-8 - $650 used Mackie 802-VLZ4 - $125 used Mackie ProFX4v2 - $150 new $75 worth of 1/4" patch cables Do a no-input feedback setup on the 802, send stereo outs to the stereo channel of the Pro-FX4. Output of the Lyra-8 to one of the mic/inst channels. Play with that for a few months then buy some...

Re: Cold minimal techno with eurorack

Also check out the Elektron Model:Cycles as a starting point. Great groove box and sequencer with cool FM sounds, I see that Varg is using the Digitone in his Against The Clock which is sort of a big brother to the Cycles. You could combo it with a modular rack for filtering, effects/processing, a b...

Re: What is your favorite way to use Clouds?

It's not 'normal,' but it's not exactly abnormal either, especially for digital signal processors. I've had a couple pedals that act like that, I'm guessing some (especially older) rack gear does as well. The use-case for figuring out how to make a digital stereo circuit behave in any other way is p...

Re: Minimal Drum Rack Advice/3-Module Challenge

Preemptive edit, the TL:DR is that I think you should reconsider your basic idea so I wrote up a complicated way of saying you should consider using a drum machine plus a eurorack synth instead of a eurorack drum synth with a neutron. You maybe didn't ask for this but I wrote it, so I'm posting it. ...

Re: Cold minimal techno with eurorack

I'd combo a stand-alone drum machine for percussion with your euro rack. Drumbrute+Minibrute is a great starting point, optimally with a mixer with some effects. Then when you get those down, pick up a rack brute and start getting some individual modules, such as effects and more advanced modulation...

Re: badass kick wizard ?

60Hz is roughly the resonant frequency of a human chest. Side chain, a bump in the 60hz region, getting other material out of the way is really the key to making the kick sound huge. Volume is always relative.

Re: If you were starting over; what would you do differently?

I would have spent more on a case and mixer/output, bought an oscilloscope immediately, and started with more basic utilities instead of modules that just sort of hosted sound engines in a modular format.

Re: help a guy out - arturia brutes aplenty

You could get something like a Korg SQ-1 or better yet a Beatstep to sequence. Then get a small format mixer (pref with a few effects) and you're in business.

I would say the SP16 will be a future budget buy if you wait a bit. I dont think it's going to have much resale value into the future and is probably going to be underpriced compared to its feature-set soon, if it isn't already

So many good ideas in this thread already. I’ve always known I’m not getting all the possibilities out of my Monsoon, I bought it at the same time as several other complex modules and have mostly only ever patched it the same way. Really gotta get into the woodshed and learn the ins and outs of it...

I'm a big fan of hardware, but I'll have to say the iPad is hard to beat for travel music-making. You have samplers, synths (hard-wired, modular, wavetable, additive, subtractive), sequencers, drum machines, etc. The iPad is an amazing tool, except how annoying it is to interface with other stuff. ...

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.

At this point there’s very few in the music community who don’t know where B stands ethically. If you’re buying their stuff you’re either ok with/actively for this behavior or you don’t like it in abstract but ultimately care more about getting cheap gear. Neither is particularly flattering, but the...
