Re: Tenori-ON can't autoswitch blocks? Why?

Unfortunately, there's no proper documentation, but it's worth it anyway. I was hoping that the website would document it enough, but clearly not - you aren't the only one to want better documentation. I was going to start just by reorganising the webpages from the current "blog" style to more of a...

Re: Tenori-On tnw sample format description

Could be the 12 bit PCM samples a kind of Yamaha ADPCM codec compressed files? I had a similar hunch a while ago, and tried this before, but with no joy. It might be encrypted. The 16 bit data _is_ sort of encrypted, but since you can use the User Voice Manager software to encrypt WAV files into Ya...

Re: Tenori-On tnw sample format description

So the stock sounds are stored in a mixture of 44.1kHz 16bit PCM and 22.05hHz 16 bit PCM, and a third format which I can't decipher. My hunch is that they are 12 bit PCM, since there seem to be references on the net to AWM sounds being sometimes 12 bit, but no amount of bit jangling makes them anyth...

Re: Stop default to Demo Song (in Slave mode)?

I would have thought that setting the saver time ( interior menu , saver time) to OFF would have worked. Is the problem that this doesn't work if Synchronize is set to SLAVE?

Re: Tenori-On tnw sample format description

I've managed to dump the stock sounds TNR data resident in the tone generator; it's a similar looking format to the TNW format in that it consists of a header describing all the instruments, and then a big mush of audio. I've converted the audio into one long WAV file; and can hear bursts of familia...

Re: Tenori-On tnw sample format description

Interesting pointer to the QY100. The chip in there is the SWX00B, which was also used in a lot of the Yamaha PSR keyboards, and which came along quite a long time before the TNR (chip in 1998, QY in 2000). However, as far as I can discover, the data on the card slot is basically MIDI files, not sou...

Re: Tenori-On tnw sample format description

At some point I want to experiment with changing the midi note allocations... OK, I couldn't resist. The midi note allocation field indicates what pitch the source sample is; the TNR then pitch shifts (only by adjusting the sample playback speed). If you fill a TNW file with 16 lots of the same sam...

Re: Tenori-On tnw sample format description

I've added a link to an OpenDocument spreadsheet containing my file format notes at the bottom of this page: https://www.pika.blue/posts/tenori-on/audition/ . If you discover anything else (e.g. what fields, if any, indicate 8/16bit data, or 22/24/44.1/48 kHz sample rate) let me know and I'll update...

Re: Tenori-On tnw sample format description

Just tested the script with some tnw files. Works fantastic, good job! That's good to hear. Out of interest, was that on Windows, or Mac? In terms of the file format description, I can turn what I know into a quick text file, or Excel file, or something like that, if you are interested in digging o...

a command line audio player (in /usr/bin) called afplay. Thanks for the pointer! I've tried to detect MacOSX, and included afplay in the script and updated it on the link, although I can't test it. Re: Tenori-On tnw sample format description

OK, so I have now got a small application written that can audition the sound files contained within a TNW file. It can also save them out to WAV as well if you want to mix and match. I have written it in Tcl/Tk, as a route to trying to provide some sort of cross-platform portability, and it works f...

What was your experience with this update? Not sure that I can answer in an unbiased way, given that I'm the originator. I'm in direct contact with a few people who are using it; we trade feature requests ;) and bug reports  . I don't know whether any of them use this forum. Can I control bloc...

Re: Midi Matrix / Midi Routing

I'm very happy with my Edirol UM-880. (Like a Roland A-880 but with added USBness ). Although it claims to have no Win10 drivers, you can install the older ones by turning off driver signing, and they work perfectly.

Re: Tenori-On triggering a drum machine

Firstly, there is a dedicated Tenori-on area in this forum, so if you reposted your message there, you may get some useful answers to general TNR questions : Tenori-on Forum The MIDI "note-on" message does contain a velocity byte, so you can't send "just" note-on information. That being said, the ve...

Re: recording to TO with external controller

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I figured it might be relevant to the participants in the conversation. In my ongoing modifications to the TNR firmware, I've implemented a first version of a recording function, that records - and puts on the grid - note on events. (Velocity, CC etc. not done y...

You might want to reserve judgement until it's been tested more thoroughly ;) There's lots of use-in-anger scenarios I doubt I've considered, so if something strange happens, let me know.

Re: Tenori-ON can't autoswitch blocks? Why?

Thanks again for doing this. It's a second life for the TO! No problem. I've been poking around in the TNR for some time; only recently have I had a sufficient chunk of time to actually get something together for release. I really like the aesthetics of the hardware, and I've still not found anythi...

Re: Tenori-ON can't autoswitch blocks? Why?

Bug #002 fixed in the latest release A017. (The bug - only in score mode - involved notes leaking from block N+1 to block N when a block change was done). A017 also includes the first of several - hopefully - meta controllers. The first one is an internal block change "instrument", as described abov...

Re: Tenori-ON can't autoswitch blocks? Why?

Found a bug :bang: Release A015 seems to have introduced a (rather glaring) problem related to block changes that wasn't present in release A014. So until I sort out what's going on, if you want to try 256-step sequences, stay with release A014. A015+A016 are OK for testing splits and CC messaging, ...

(New forum user here, but had my TNR for some time...)

Unfortunately, the TNR is locked completely during song playback. The only buttons that do anything are "OK" and "CANCEL", both of which stop the song from playing.
