Re: priorities

advice for interface: Steinberg UR824 another advice (or rather observation): i recently stopped using my computer for recording and went for a medium sized analog mixer (A+H Zed-14) and a zoom H6 for recording (in stereo). this is much more fun for me. but you sound like you want to invest in DAW w...

Re: CEM3340 hard sync / reset phase

I can tell you categorically that there were no magazine circuits published that are worth copying. If you rummage in the dustbin of history you will find historical rubbish. what about thomas henry? surely his schematics seems to be respectable? i think like all dustbins from history there is the ...

i must say www.intergalactic.fm is very nice. lot's of interesting quirky curated material. mostly less hard hitting stuff, but still very deep, humorous and with a foot firmly planted in the past decades. thumbs up! :tu:

radio stations for techno music?

i want to tune in to a radio station to discover new and old electronic music for dancing. some categories i like are techno, acid techno, ambient techno, idm/braindance, house, breakbeat, acid house, jungle, breakcore, industrial techno, experimental/avantgarde/deconstructed/modern (as long as it i...

Re: Quoth Hidden Mix sound.

richard told in an early interview he made a sampler machine, but it did not sample correctly. it would instead spit out whacky sounds. he made lots of hardware himself in the early days. i think that contributed a lot to his unique sound. that and of course, mutilating roland gear.

Re: DIY aluminium case: yes or no?

my five small cents: i've built a couple of wooden racks. mainly because i don't have the tools needed for working with alu. sounds like a pretty involved process doing the alu yourself. maybe it's easier (and more fun) for you to use wood? building a rack -- that is precision work and without the p...

grounding shielded cable at one end or both?

i'm making some instrument cables and i just came across some sources on the net proposing to only ground cable shields at one of the two ends to avoid ground loops. alphawire page 4: https://www.mouser.com/pdfdocs/alphawire-Understanding-Shielded-Cable.pdf others say you get disastreous results by ...

Re: de-bloating windows 10

What do you think? i think linux is great if you have the time and interest to learn how a computer works. if you don't then there's better alternatives. but there's a trade off, of course. limited control resulting in un-optimal usage of resources. but let's face it - it's a general purpose comput...

Re: de-bloating windows 10

If you want to make computing fun again and take back control of your digital lives, I recommend at least partially switching to Linux. i see where you are coming from, but lots of software don't run on linux. so people choose convenience over control. When it comes to audio equipment, interfaces, ...

Re: advice on getting a recording mixer

currently investigating A+H ZED 14. looks like i need to drop the multi channel requirement if i want a smallish analog mixer. the ZED-14 looks pretty good. i can always use the four AUX sends for 4 channel recording if i want some multi channeling and use the computer in tandem. recording in stereo...
