Re: Looking for a builder? Post here!

Hi looking for someone to build a small stand-alone Eurorack case for me for a module that's deeper than my other cases. Its for the Grendel Drone Commander plus expander, which is 35 hp and 78 mm. I live in Brooklyn NY so local would be nice but anyone in the US or who can ship there for not too mu...

Re: NONLINEAR LABS C15 DIGITAL SYNTH

I just received my CL15 (rented at $100 month, its actually accessible!!!!) and I came here to say how impressed I am. I'm a keyboard player but I also grew up as a serious violinist and so my standards for haptic satisfaction and expressiveness are very high. The C15 is stunning. If you are looking...

Re: Befaco VCMC voltage controlled MIDI controller

Quick question on the VCMC - apologies if its a dumb question. I simply want to take a CV (pitch) signal and a gate from a Eurorack sequencer and input into the VCMC so i can send the same sequence out via Midi. I can get the CV pitch info into the VCMC but what setting do i need to just get a simp...

Re: Befaco VCMC voltage controlled MIDI controller

Hi - I just got my VCMC and really enjoying it so far but I can't figure out how to get V/Oct setting with CV gate pairs. I'm getting the C major scale triggered by the gate inputs (which is the default factory setting for the buttons and hardwired to the gates, correct?) How do I reconfigure the bu...

Re: Gestural patching (Meng Qi style) - advice please!

I'd considered it when it was for sale a couple years ago Wow I'm so lucky to run into you! What I found in my modular journey was that my cases turned into instruments on their own which can also complement each other. There is always some kind of overarching identity behind why a particular set o...

Re: Passive mixing

Thanks for reply - It’s a passive matrix mixer but larger than usual (10x20), built for gestural patching with touch or magnets. So it’s unpredictable in terms of attenuation and noise (both of whcih I like about it) Can all modules be sent to passive mixers? Or only ones with buffers? Thanks for pa...

Passive mixing

Hi - Can I hear your thoughts on what makes modules well suited for passive mixing? I have a weird project where I'm going to build a modular set up specifically to use with a passive patchbay... attenuation and crosstalk are wanted elements for this! But I'm also wondering about options for more pr...

Gestural patching (Meng Qi style) - advice please!

TLDR: I have a Meng Qi one-off passive 10x20 matrix built for gestural patching with touch or magnets. It's incredible. Also I need your help please. Hello all - I'm in a unique situation (I think!) and could really use advice. I'm at the very start of getting into modular, using VCV rack and doing ...

Re: Does Serge make sense for Noob?

Thanks all so much for the thoughtful advice.

Any suggestions for VCV modules that are closer to Serge style? I think I need another few months of VCV before making purchasing decisions :)

Does Serge make sense for Noob?

Hi all - I am ready to take the modular plunge and assumed it would be eurorack BUT then I found out about Ciat Lonbarde and have just acquired a Plumbutter...and so a few banana plugs later.... Does Serge make any sense for a newbie? My uninformed impression is that compared to eurorack, the Serge ...

don't get a quad vca unless it has a mixer built in.

the bigger digital modules have much better interface than disting.

Re: Noob question

Well, I don’t think I’ll ever be the first for anything cool and not trying and fortunately I also don’t care (much lol) about the aesthetics of my modules. So both of those are safeguards I think. Based on the advice “get a few used versatile modules and experiment deeply”, how does something like ...

Re: Noob question

My best advice is to buy random used stuff and experiment extensively. You know, this is really good idea - I wouldn't have thought of the random part. It goes against the grain of masterminding the universe and that's a good thing because I don't yet have the skills to actually envision what I wan...

You can use a resonant filter as an oscillator. You can use an envelope generator an oscillator. You can use an envelope generator as a slew limiter. You can use an an audio oscillator as an LFO, etc. etc.....

Re: Noob question

I think you could do most of the learning with two regular analog oscillators, a noise source, a few vcas, some mixers, a slew limiter, logic/a comparator, a sample and hold, a bipolar vca, a sequential voltage source, a clock divider, attenuators, invertors, a filter, a switch, a controller of som...

Re: Noob question

Thanks all for these really helpful replies. My interest is generative tonal music with patch-and-walk-away options. I do a lot of electro-acoustic stuff with playing instruments so I’m interested in modular for its textural and rhythmic richness plus generative options while my hands are busy. Base...

Re: Noob question

“the problem is that not all manufacturers make all sorts of modules - and/or some of the ones they do kind of suck &/or don't work for me - so I wouldn't get stuck 100% on a single manufacturer, but that might work for you” Yes thanks for that - I was thinking that same maker might have more cohere...

Re: Noob question

I think that buying a premade system of modules is fine. A lot of people go that route. I recently bought an Ericasynths Pico System 3, and the module mix is NOTHING like the way I would have come up with...which has really been helping me step out of my "this works this way" box Yeah that appeals t...

Noob question

Hi all - Just starting to venture into modular (and starting into the wormhole). I've done the reading, played for hours on modular grid, lurked on these forums and pondered advice given to others. Heres my questions - what do you think about focusing on particular makers as a way to start out? For ...
