Re: Picking a Function Generator

... I recommended a pair of contour 1s with select 2 (which you need for frequency division) and compare 2 as a Maths Killer, but I wouldn't say that it's immediately apparent why that's true to a newcomer and it's a much greater investment. How does Select 2 serve for frequency division? I honestl...

Re: Deep noise modules

not sure if it's what you're looking for, but the ssf quantum rainbow gives you a smattering of static noise tones? Looking for non-static, pitch-able noise with various CV-able parameters (particularly over mode select so I'm not eating up summing VCAs). For the moment I'm getting some nice result...

Re: New Firmware - The Pain and the Joy of Updating Modules

I posted a while back about updating the Kermit MK3 and Pam's NW at the same time and what a night and day difference it was. Literally 5 min with a micro usb cable for Pam's and then a $20 3rd party dongle and an hour of fucking with a multi-gigabite software download for the Kermit (which shipped ...

Deep noise modules

I'm finding I really miss the noise mode on my E352 with it out of the rack atm. I use it all the time and I love using noise in my patches, often as my only sound source. I'm wondering if there's a smaller module that offers the same depth of noise control (tuning, CV over mode, modes other than wh...

Re: How many modules outside your rack?

I have a Shapeshifter and Cloud Terrarium that are the exact same size and I intended to swap them back and forth but I'm leaning toward just keeping the SS as I just get more interesting stuff out of it and it's a shame having hundreds of dollars tied in up in something I'm not using. But I really ...

Re: Intellijel Rubicon 2 vs SSF Zero Point Oscillator

This thread is such a trip lol Lmao, for real. Not the most helpful thread if you're trying to decide which to buy. "Let's see ZPO or Rubi? Oh fuck, equations." The design approaches of these two VCOs are clearly very different. If you read the ZPO copy it seems as it was designed through trial and...

Re: Loquelics vs Donuts

This is 100% LIP apart from the drums : http://dataroamingrecords.bandcamp.com/track/dc11-liquid-lip This is sick. I bought an E352 to swap out with my Shapeshifter, which was my first oscillator, and then got an LI for digital complex osc tones to kind of make up for the absence of the SS. I'd had...

Re: best & "most unique" sounding standard modules?

i don't know why techno artists don't grunge their VSTs up at all. can't stand fizzy digital sound... looking at you 303! Oh but they do! Most producers I know use external gear to process their tracks made in the box. Often for overdrive through a pedal or mixer preamp. Also analog delay, old rack...

Sourcing cream davies knobs for ADDAC modules

I recently got an ADDAC702 Dual VCF (amazing filter btw) but it came with bright white knobs and it's messing with my feng shui as all my other ADDAC modules have cream knobs. Anyone know where I can get those creamies? Thanks. Bonus round: I'm also looking for white knobs to replace the blue ones o...

Re: The Disting Effect and new features for digital modules

Funny. I have gone the exact opposite route and sold almost all of my multi-functional, menu driven modules and gone with a much more simple approach with simple modules that excel at their task and are relatively straightforward to use. Anyone with a functioning knowledge of modular synthesis could...

Re: Pictures of your techno rig for inspiration?

Although I think the Octa gets compared to classic samplers which have plenty of character, whereas it’s pretty neutral so less obviously vibey. The Digitone is the only one I’ve really liked sound-wise straight away. I feel like the Octa is worse than neutral sounding, everything I put in it comes...

Re: Pictures of your techno rig for inspiration?

To me the Alpha has a rawer/more alive (whatever that means..) sound and the Rytm is more precise/clinical (never really gelled with its internal sounds in the same way) but that’s complete subjective. The Rytm definitely has a dark sound to it. I've never actually met an Elektron device that had a...

Re: Best discontinued modules

The VSL VCF-74 is such a lovely sounding filter.

I like the 1st gen Harvestman modules a lot. Much more grungy and immediate than the newer stuff.

The Intellijel Quadra+expander is my favorite bread and butter function generator.

Re: Breaks

I'm also curious about why you don't like the Squid's sound? I know it's supposed to be reminiscent of the s950, which I own and love, but that sound seems like it'd be hard to replicate in a tiny panel with modern components. I'm assuming it just has a 12 bit mode or something? Honestly most modern...

Re: Pictures of your techno rig for inspiration?

Oh also, not drum related but I want to mention how good the Voltage Block is for sequencing animated, rhythmic CV modulation and abstract atonal melodies which work great in techno. It's one of the best techno sequencing tools I have. I've been thinking about buying a 2nd VB. Is that excessive? Tw...

Re: Euclidean rhythm with control over all 3 parameters using cvs?

Not that I know of. Pamela's New Workout allows you to set all these parameter to be controlled by CV but only has 2 CV inputs so two of the params would have to share a CV source. Adding the Endorphin.es Running Order would give you a some more modulation options for euclidean sequencing but maybe ...

Re: Autechre - recreate on Eurorack?

Heh, I got a Juno 106 and an R70 because I read that is what a lot of Amber was made with. I never sounded like Autechre either, and in some ways I also never sounded as good as I did when I had those two pieces of gear. Yeah there's something about having just a couple machines you know inside and...

Re: Breaks

I mean, you can make a breakbeat with any generic drum modules and a straightforward trig sequencer. Traditionally, break oriented dance music uses samples rather than analog drum sounds. If you want to chop breakbeat loops ala jungle music it would massively behoove you to get a sample player that ...

I use the 4ms DLD and Erbe Verb in the eurorack (both astounding), and then a grip of rack gear and pedals on CVable fx sends. I only really use software fx when editing and arranging. Outboard fx are so critical to making inspiring parts when tinkering on my hardware, they can turn the simplest dry...

Could you give me some aspects of the Analog Rytm`s sequencer, which the Digitakt`s lacks? Just curious about the added value of the Rytm - besides the obvious differnces in general functionality :) I'm pretty sure all the post MD/MnM Elektrons have the same core sequencer (now that the OT has been...

How is the Endorphines Running Order? Two interesting gate patterns in 6hp would be excellent.

Re: Pictures of your techno rig for inspiration?

Yea, the Analog Rytm is like techno in a box basically. It's my main source of techno drums, although I mostly use samples in it weirdly. I had the Jomox Mbase for years and it's fine, definitely sounds big on a system, often too big. I went to play a show at a club once and it just fucking ate the ...
