Re: the Eurorack manufacturer COMMANDMENTS

If you want to know what’s best for customers, you study what they do, you don’t just ask them. Famous quote of Steve Jobs about people not even knowing what they want until they see it. Also, there was a somewhat well known study where they measured which user interface was most efficient and usab...

Re: Rack Rash

Don't care whatsoever. Most of the gear in my studio is vintage and scratched up or just very heavily played. You should see my Analog Rytm.

I mean rack rash? Really? You can't even see it when the screws are on. C'mon guys, caring about rack rash is some Blues Lawyer shit.

Re: Is there a guide to using FM in modular?

Analog FM is definitely one of those underrated forms of synthesis--less so in modular circles though. SSF ZPO is my favorite oscillator for FM. The features are similar to the Generate 3 but the tonal qualities and morphing made it more attractive to me. I'll have my ZPO tomorrow, looking forward ...

Re: Do i get 4ms QPLFO if already have several other LFO´s?

I have one laying around. It's a beastly module in terms of size/weight! One of the on/off buttons is broke, which I think is common. Makes your modular look like an OS Star Trek console. Just realized how similar the trajectory of eurorack tech is to the trajectory of Star Trek tech. Over the cours...

Re: Erbe-Verb: Can't find comparable reverb, why so unique?

Lately i've been breathing new life into my Erbe Verb by patching envelopes to the absorb and using it to patch gated reverbs with the mix input. I also have a springray and often combine the two to get a better reverb sound... I'd still like to get a less metallic more sensible reverb someday for ...

Re: the Eurorack manufacturer COMMANDMENTS

If you make a tool, and "almost all" of the users you hear from are using it wrong or complaining about something, the tool probably has design problems. Not if many of them have different complaints. A rather common criticism is that X should have been added. This has nothing to do with design pro...

Re: Erbe-Verb: Can't find comparable reverb, why so unique?

I have a grip of low/mid range 80s and 90s rack verbs (Ensoniq/Roland/Alesis/Boss/Yamaha) and yes many of them do sound metallic (and very techno/early Warp) but not in the way that the Erbe Verb does. The Erbe Verb is capable of taking a trigger click and turning it into the sound of someone bangin...

Anyone who has run a small business knows how annoying and entitled customers are. The customer is NOT always right. In fact, they're almost always wrong. Anyone who buys anything is entitled to have an opinion about it and discuss it. We're on a forum dedicated to discussing eurorack modules, reme...

Re: the Eurorack manufacturer COMMANDMENTS

Everything mentioned in that list improves my user experience with a module. When I got my filter 8, installed it, and read the manual I thought to myself, fuck I love whoever designed this thing. When I recently updated my PNW I thought, man I wish every update was this straightforward (after spend...

Sequential Swwitch Matrix expander, how easy to use intentionally?

I have the SSM and am making more and more weirdo percussion sounds in the rack. At the moment I don't have any trigger sequencers other than Pam's and some EOC trigs here and there. Was thinking of getting a Steppy but the SSM expander looks interesting. It looks a bit confusing though, especially ...

Re: EMS Synthi modules

Recently I built an rs vqvcf and if you set the q just right that filter will drive the F out of whatever you plug it into, not over the whole sweep but when you find the peak it can drive the input of the next circuit in alot of cases. Oh yeah, I was gonna say, I borrowed a RS ResEQ for a while an...

Re: EMS Synthi modules

The Synthi also drives really nicely at various stages, I think that's one of the things I'm struggling with is my gain staging. My Quad VCA just doesn't really come close to that kind of nice overdrive. The Roland Spring Reverb is the only thing in my signal path that drives in nicely like the Synt...

Re: EMS Synthi modules

Cool I'll look into the AS stuff. Thanks. The Matrix II looks cool. I have a Sequential Switch Matrix, but it's only 4x4. And yeah I figured it'd be impossible to go for a 1 to 1 recreation, I just want that wild, unhinged electric sound. I borrowed a Serge Res EQ for a while and it was kind of in t...

EMS Synthi modules

Besides the Doepfer Diode Low Pass, what are some modules out there that are clones of EMS Synthi circuits? I had a chance to play one a while back and it sounded like raw electricity or something. Reminded me of when I saw Pan Sonic, who had a similar *Danger, High Voltage* aesthetic to their live ...

Re: Dual Borg vs Addac Dual VC Filter

Yeah, my friend has the og Borg and it rips, some of the best screaming resonance I've heard, which is what I'm looking for. He had a dual version and then went back to original, said it sounded better. I'm interested in the Addac since it's got a lot more creative CV options and the distortion circ...

Re: VCF-74 out of stock, but new MK2 version being manufactured

I think I got the last one for sale in North America. Very happy with it, what a great sounding filter. So so good on percussion and great with Shapeshifter bass. Takes those harsh edges off and adds gobs of character.

Dual Borg vs Addac Dual VC Filter

Anyone use both of these? Thoughts on overall sound? They're both MS-20 based designs, dual filters in 16hp, one with vactrols, the other with vactrol emulating adjustable slew. The Addac has some nice sounding distortion circuits in it. The Borg has selectable mode on each filter while the Addac is...

Oh word, I didn't realize that rack was purely for reference. I feel you on getting patch fatigue for live use. Not that we're able to play live anymore lol, but I have been trying to record live stems from the modular and when my patches get too complicated, well it takes so much set up and then th...

Re: SSF zero point oscilator

Dixie 2+ is a winner as a mod/secondary VCO. Incredibly precise, has sync and flip, pwm, linear and exponential fm, a subosc, 5 simultaneous waveforms, lfo mode, and an octave switch, all in 8hp. I use it with my Shapeshifter all the time.

Re: Joranalogue vs Intellijel vs Mutable Instruments

Looking at your rack: yeah 2 quad VCAs and a Mix3 is a bit redundant. You'll likely want some sequencing and performance controls (Tertapad or Soundmachines, a joystick, switched mult maybe). And consider some other utilities like attenuverters (important), sequential switches, rectifiers, logic, sa...

Re: 104hp Drum Synth Starter

I would imagine that being a really fun setup tbh. The Squid doesn't accept accent so you wouldn't have much dynamics though. The Erica Drum Seq seems very much designed for their own drum modules but does look cool. I know what you mean - it doesn’t have “accent” in the strict sense of that word f...

Re: Intellijel Rubicon 2 vs SSF Zero Point Oscillator

I like the way Doepfer oscs sound. They aren't as harsh and clangorous as some of the others. The A-110-4 sounds so smooth and just kinda purrs nicely in that demo. Nothing seems quite as capable of the variety of tones that the ZPO is though, esp at 16hp. I really want one. I have absolutely no iss...
