Re: Adding warmth / saturation / crud

I have a boss bx mixer I got for like $20, it's got some pretty gnarly sounding overdrive, I don't love it, but it can sound great on drums sometimes. I much prefer overdriving the pres on my Mackie CR1604 though. Certain old dbx compressors, Roland spring reverbs, some bbd delays are great for warm...

Wow I think you've been watching too much youtube friend.

Sometimes if I read a really British sounding phrase, like "tuck into some puds", I'll read it in an English accent in my head.

Re: Pam's new Workout vs. Marbles

I use both of them a lot. I guess they have some overlap, but a lot of modules have overlap as there's a hundred ways to do the same thing in modular. Consider where each module shines and if that's what you want to use it for. For me Marbles is great for coming up with loopy little techno melodies ...

Re: End of the line

Intellijel interface into an FMR RNLA compressor. The Intellijel has pretty low headroom on the input, but I don't know of a better stereo I/O in 10hp or less. I recently got a Worng Soundstage, which pairs nicely with things like the Stereo Dipole filter and 4ms DLD, or a signal that's multed into ...

Re: What is the most random, random-generator still in production?

One module whose randomness disappointed me a little bit is the random waveform in the Erica Black Octasource. When it's in random mode, the 8 outputs aren't all unrelatedly random, they're shifts of each other, so it does produce an 8-phase random signal, but not 8 independently random signals. De...

Re: How would you finish/improve this setup?

Word, I guess I missed the Doepfers. Re: modulation, I'd get a quad function generator as it can be an envelope or lfo. You have quite a few lfo options but only 2 trig-able envelopes. Everyone is different but I usually use 4-6 envelopes in a monosynth patch. I've been using the Addac Stochastic Fu...

Re: How would you finish/improve this setup?

3 granular effects units is a lot for that size system, but if that's your thing... Looks like you could use some envelopes and more modulation if you want to use all of that at once. Also 5 effects and no filters is a pretty weird way to build a synth but if that's what you want then do it I guess....

Re: You like what they do, but not how they do it

PNW is cool for me tho. It's funny I actually really like Pam's interface. It's heavy on the click/turn/click but having numerical values based on a percentage scale works so well for rhythmic modulation. So much better than a 127 scale despite the loss in granularity. It's one of three menu based ...

Re: What is the most random, random-generator still in production?

Thanks! I'll try that out when I get a function-generator! I suppose I can use my Joranalogue Contour 1 in place of the Doepfer A-171-2? And can I use my Quadrax + QX Expander for the function/EOR/EOF in place of EOC? Here's what I have: Pittsburgh ModTools/Moog CP251 (noise/sample-and-hold) → Cont...

Re: Mutable Instruments Blades

How does it compare with the SSF Dipole? dipole is 4 filters, blades is two. however you can smoothly transition between lp/bp/hp here wereas dipole uses switches. Well, it's more like 2 filters that each have 2 resonant peaks (but it does have 4 cores). I just bought the Dipole not long ago. Wish ...

Thanks, I saw that, I can't find a specific feature list though that says it can arrange patches between banks, it just says "sound library organization" which is pretty vague.

Re: Utility modules that make you happy?

As my patches have gotten more and more complex in terms of the amount of sounds happening at once I've been really thankful for the Worng Soundstage for being able to give some quick and dirty spectral and stereo mixing before the recording stage. The fixed frequency range of the filters is kind of...

Managing TX81Z patches

So I've got about 5 banks of user patches I switch between on the TX81Z, and if I want a certain sound I just load that bank. But I'm starting to write a live set (for when I'm allowed to do that again) and want to use the TX81z and several patches from several different banks. I can load and save w...

Re: Any love for Yamaha TG33?

Prices in today's market sometimes reflect how an electronic musical device can be inspiring, how well its sound sits in the mix, if the sounds coming out of the unit are relevant according to the current production trends, playabily/ease of use(not so relevant here apart from the joystick :hihi:) ...

Re: What is the most random, random-generator still in production?

...Even then, if you're using a steady clock, random triggers don't appear that random over time - they still align with the grid. So you need a random clock to get away from that as well. There's a bit more effort than expected needed to get this with analog modules. Yeah what you want is the jitt...

Re: What is the most random, random-generator still in production?

Thanks again, everyone, for all the excellent suggestions! Daphnid: Which unit is the SSM exactly? Also, which do you think is more applicable to non-chromatic random-sequences, Marbles/Pachinko or SSF Ultra-Random? (Also, I'm not doing any traditional percussion.) Can't find an ADDAC. I like Michi...

Re: What is the most random, random-generator still in production?

Yeah, I have an SSM which has a function that just randomly activates different routings with each trig. The SSM in general is so fun for mixing trigs. Also, to the OP, I was looking for a URA and someone on here suggested the ADDAC Dual S+H, which is what I eventually got, and it's totally sick. Lo...

Re: Another synth building thread... this time a dry drone machine

I second a matrix mixer, wonderful for blending sounds and feedback. The Doepfer is super cheap too. I also have an SSF Blender which is great for vc crossfading. Also cheap used (got mine for like $50), and only 6hp. Can be a VCA in a pinch too. I could see something like the Joranalogue Morph 4 a...

Re: What is the most random, random-generator still in production?

Also, don't forget that you can make even more use and combinations out of your CV (random and otherwise) by feeding some of them into either a NLC Let's Splosh or a Worng Vector Space for random-rsndom combos... imo most every rack would benefit from a Vector Space or Lets Splosh, variety of CV be...

Is anyone else's Stereo Dipole's output incredibly hot?

Mine clips both the Worng Soundtage and my Intellijel audio interface at unity gain with no drive. I have the outputs basically hardwired to attenuators, which sucks as it has 3 outs and eats up an entire Triatt when using them all. Nothing else in my 18u system clips those modules like that at unit...

Re: Any love for Yamaha TG33?

I had an SY22 and sold it when I got a TG500 for $50. But man I love the gritty 12 bit sound of the 22, it was just taking up too much space. I also have K2000RS but it's so damn hi fi, I always end up sampling it through an EPS. These things are going for way too much money now though it's not wort...

Re: What is the most random, random-generator still in production?

Honestly Pamela's New Workout might be great, gives you 8 channels of trigs or stepped random which can be clocked all kinds of ways, randomly skipped to varying degrees, and can be self patched to allow you to CV address almost any setting (feed a stepped random back into the clock division, euclid...

Re: A decent case

Case From Lake (Italy) on Reverb offers some good value options I think, though I haven't bought from him. €685 will buy you this 15U/104HP case for instance, with power. Maybe he could do 12U with additional 1U rows for a similar price. https://reverb.com/item/37455748-15u-eurorack-case-powered-84...
