Re: Moogfest Sub-Harmonicon - What Is It?

I was interested in this thing immediately when they did the Moogfest version, but didn’t have time or money to attend. Since then I’ve also gotten drawn in by the verbos harmonic oscillator, which has a cool sound. And is also about $700 new. Interesting. Do I want harmonics up or down? Obv. the S...

Re: Fennesz’s Venice

I believe his main MO is software, yes. If you read interviews he always mentions some mystery hardware distortion/filter thing, but I’d say the majority of his sound is all software.

Re: Ever swapped desktop module for keyboard version and felt the gain?

I tend to prefer keys - at least with my current setup - because it’s more immediate and doesn’t require me to fire up my iPad and interface for sequencing. I have the power setup where I can turn on any individual keyboard and just sit down and play through headphones, or I can turn everything on a...

The two I’ve ended up with are a Germino Club 40 and a Blackfaced Bandmaster Reverb. The Germino cranked up is my favorite crunch tone, and the Bandmaster has stupid good cleans.

SH-101 is king.
It should be. That’s why it’s in the “hero” thread, but the sound just underwhelmed me when I finally had it in front of me and running well. There’s plenty of gear that I love when in the hands of someone else, but I didn’t bond with it. :despair:

Re: Never meet your heroes

SH-101 for me. I bought one a few years back and it arrived only somewhat functional, and it ended up on a shelf with me thinking I’d eventually get around to fixing it up. I finally did get it running recently only to be completely underwhelmed with the sound. Sold it within a couple days after tha...

Re: Drone - Live Looper

My favorite pedal looper is still the Rang III, although nowadays there are plenty that can compete with it. Multiple simultaneous unsynced loops is perfect for droning. You could also cover similar ground with multiple simpler loopers, but it’s not quite as elegant. On the software side (or iOS at ...

Re: Modern keepers!

I’ve had my Two Voice Pro for a few years now and don’t really see it going anywhere. Sometimes I feel like I’m fighting it, trying to make it sound like something it’s not. But it’s limitations often lead me down a path that I wouldn’t normally take patch-wise, and I end up going “That... actually ...

I don't think the synth world needs this drama, let the products speak for themselves.
The original products? Or the flimsy Behringer knockoffs?

Re: If you could only have one...

These days my Nord Electro 5D plus JU-06 are my most used instruments, so.. a Nord Stage 3 76 note would be my choice - pianos, organs, a great sample library, plus the VA synth engine is no slouch either. It does bass, leads, pads, plus can go weird if required. Happiness in a box. I like this ide...

On a machine I can’t upgrade after the fact I’m much more inclined to go all in on. I just picked up an 11” iPad Pro and have no complaints. Sure it was almost $1k, but I know it’ll run anything I could possibly want for the foreseeable future. If it was a laptop or desktop then sure, maybe grab som...

From my experiences with the Seq, I find it to be a great sequencer for drum machines, drum synths, and samplers and a just-barely-adequate sequencer for synthesizers.
Yup. The reason why I sold mine, unfortunately.

Has anyone had any luck in contacting Tom O. recently? I’ve been trying to find out about updating my TVP’s firmware and I haven’t gotten any replies. From what I’ve read it’s best to get the files directly from him or risk bricking the whole thing. The firmwares on mine are both 1.x versions, and I...

I vote Sub37 based on what you've already got. The Peak is tempting but you seem to have your poly pretty well covered.
