Great! I actually helped someone instead of being helped! The layout of the 16n looks pretty easy to trace where the issues could be. Just follow the trace back to see which chip and set of resistors are potentially at fault.

No, not really. Once you have control of the yamaha via arduino or some other microcontroller it´s totally feasible to add cv/gate. Point is that you need to control quite a lot of parameters at the same time, so you either need something like 8-16 CVs or some kind of macros to make any sense of it...
