Re: Patch trick: turn your Maths into a complex formant oscillator like Mangrove

You're right. The envelope time(or width) is independent of the syncing oscillator frequency that's triggering the envelope. Thus, constant formant. Once you apply the v/oct for the syncing oscillator to Maths 'both' input you have constant wave. Though as you mentioned, something like Contour woul...

Re: Mutable Instruments Beads (Clouds 2)

I'm kind of in awe at how much this module does. I spent 2 hours last night just using it as a wavetable voice. Just running signals through the tape emulation makes it a really nice character module. It's a perfectly usable reverb, delay, beat-slicer. That's before you even get into the main funct...

Re: Patch trick: turn your Maths into a complex formant oscillator like Mangrove

I've been thinking about this sort of thing a lot lately. If I'm not mistaken, the patch in the OP is like the constant formant mode on mangrove. I.e. envelope time is controlled independently of oscillator frequency. If the period of the envelope exceeds the period of the oscillator triggering the...

Re: Bread and Butter Analog Oscillators in 2020

Rubicon 2. It's a weird one because it's fairly large for a single oscillator. Although it has a "wavefolder" and all of the parameters have attenuator pots so no need for using attenuator channels to get down with it. Also, all of the switches are clever AF and super ergonomic. It has an amazing so...

Re: Digitakt as eurorack sequencer? Or possibly Eloquencer w/ EME?

My 2 cents, I tried using the Digitakt as a sequencer for the modular and really didn't like it. Ended up selling the Mutant Brain after a couple months. It doesn't have scales or an arp and I just didn't enjoy the interface as a sequencer. That said, I love the Digitakt as a sampler and drum machin...

Anyone got any comments on Three Sisters vs Filter 8? I'm pretty sold on 3sis but recently picked up a couple Joranalogue modules and now more curious about the Generate and Filter modules.

Re: Joranalogue SWITCH 4 - Performance Switcher/Router

Just picked up a Switch 4 and gotta say it is AMAZING! The build quality is top notch. The toggles are incredibly satisfying to use, and the momentary open feature is so amazing. It's the type of module that will go in every patch. I also gotta give a shoutout to the Fold 6, which I also just picked...

Shoot this is great to know. I'm looking at getting 2x Mangroves and a Three Sisters to complete a Mannequins complex osc ecosystem. Gonna be sick. Until then catch me DIYing NLC chaos modules

Re: Complex Osc vs alternatives

I don't have much to add here, all good options. I think it comes down to how much control you want to have over things. Assembling your own complex osc is going to be the most flexible, and well modular, so you can swap out components. Complex Oscillators offer pretty deep control in a smaller foot...

Re: Joranalogue FOLD 6 - Multi-Topology Wavefolder

This discussion convinced me to jump on a Fold 6 (also ordered a Switch 4). I've recently been getting into feedback patching but only have Cold Mac's crease and Rubicon 2's warp circuit for folding. Can't wait to throw my filter output into the Fold, then Fold back into itself, then back into filte...

Maths, PNW, delay and reverb will take you pretty far. Depends on what you want to accomplish but those things are pretty helpful in most types of racks.

Re: Mutable Instruments Clouds 2 (watching us from the dark side)

FX Aid runs on a Spin FV-1. Aside from Edges (which ran on at ATxmega), all of MI's digital modules up to now have run on an ARM Cortex M4 of some type (STM32F...) Clouds 1 was about 37.5x faster (in MIPS) than an FV-1. This. Aside from general curiosity, the concern over what chip was used for a p...

Re: Mutable Instruments Clouds 2 (watching us from the dark side)

Ah I see. I was speculating that the green circular arrow on Clouds 2.0 was possibly a looping delay mode. I realize the pictures didn't format in my reply for some reason which made it confusing. My bad!

Re: Mutable Instruments Clouds 2 (watching us from the dark side)

Been thinking about it and I wonder if the green circular arrow mode is a looping delay mode. Feedback doesn't make sense to me next to the Cloud(presumably granular mode) and box(presumably reverb mode). Feedback wasn't a mode, but a parameter on the various modes of Clouds 1.0. This is of course ...

Re: Mutable Instruments Clouds 2 (watching us from the dark side)

prediction: it will have more memory so higher quality/longer grain sizes possibly but will but quite similar in most aspects. buttons for all modes, no more blend knob stuff. However, the negative will be no more reverb! There's still a "cube" icon, though, which was used for reverb on Clouds. Mak...

Re: Got a QPAS. Got a Ripples. Got Moog stuff. What next?

One thing to consider is that the QPAS is also in the extended Moog family of filters by way of its Voyager lineage. And, that the Ripples is in the extended Roland family of filters. So in a sense, what you have (brand labels aside) are two Moog family filters and one Roland. And in that sense, wh...

Any company you like has spent hours pouring over MI's designs and code to learn how to make their own.
What a profoundly ridiculous statement.
It's an exaggeration of course, the point is, MI's open source has massively contributed to other companies ideas.

Re: Why are people selling Mutable Instruments?

I sold marbles because it was absolutely not musical to my ears, i just did not like what the thing played. Even a simple s+h or the plain old sq1 on random mode sounds more interesting. Or the Benjolin now THAT sounds random and totally unexpected. As a contrast, I found Marbles to be incredibly m...

Glad folks like the music and appreciate the patch notes :) I am actually about to release a new album this week, and this module is on four of those tracks too.
