Re: Designers: For VCO frequency why aren’t trim pots used for course tune and big knobs for fine tune?

Use CV to control the tuning. Coarse tuning can be easily handled with a transposition module (see my post above), that would give you the "quantized" transposition you want on ANY VCO. For fine tune, also use CV ... use whatever controller or CV source floats yer boat. For instance, a joystick, or...

Re: Designers: For VCO frequency why aren’t trim pots used for course tune and big knobs for fine tune?

This is a fascinating discussion on design thinking. I love it when long-held assumptions are challenged like this. My only complaint about my (otherwise marvellous) SynthTech E352 relates to the tuning options, notably: - The coarse tune is very close to the X Parameter knob, so I accidentally knoc...

Re: Re:

Sounds like yours is working. The negative CV voltages are like what the fuzz knob does as you turn it up (clockwise). So you probably notice the fuzz knob only gets aggressive near the end of its travel, and similarly that's why only the large negative CV voltages provide a noticeable change/incre...

Some obvious ones: Profondo Rosso (Deep Red)... or anything by Goblin Assault on Precinct 13... or anything by John Carpenter A less obvious one: An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn - soundtrack by Andrew Hung, formerly of F*ck Buttons Not strictly an 'old' film, but it has a lovely retro feel. Re: Basic waveshapes and oscilloscopes

I think this is quite normal with analogue oscillators because of the way they shape the wave using capacitors, transistors etc. which are not going to create a precise shape. This is different to a digital oscillator where the waveshape can be defined precisely. But it's these minor defects that gi...

Re: Stock or Hemisphere Suite for my New Ornament and Crime Module?

I've been using O_C for about 3 weeks now. Started out with Hemisphere as it seemed easier to understand. I loved Carpeggio but found too many of the other apps a bit fiddly considering a lot of them offer quite basic functions. I'm now having a lot more fun with the stock firmware - it seems to enc...

Appreciate all the suggestions! I will start with some patch chords-can always use more than an ai synthesis mult then explore from there probably with the adsr as I need one anyways then we shall see... I've soldered before - it's been awhile but hopefully I will do it ok. Eventually I would like ...

Re: Gear suggestions: moving away from Elektron

+1 for the Deluge The workflow is a little different to Elektron gear, but I find it very intuitive and immediate now I know all the shortcuts. Took about 1-2 weeks to get used to it. The Arranger view offers exactly what you want in terms of sequencing longer segments, and sample time is only limit...

Re: any advice or critique is welcome :)

I really like this, especially the "boxes on boxes" bit. Very interesting harmonies too. Some constructive thoughts which I hope are useful: 1. Think about the dynamic range across the whole track - the piano seems like a constant volume throughout but I think could create more interest by introduci...

Re: Recording again after almost 20 years

A new song - bit of a harder sound this time. I'm quite proud of this one as virtually every sound on it is synthesised from scratch on my Eurorack setup, a Roland JD-XA and Korg Volca Drums. Actually there is one sample, but it is running through MI Rings then heavily processed so sounds nothing li...

Re: Maths double triggering when using buff mult

If you can measure some voltages, it would help to diagnose the problem. Measurements: 1. The 5V gate output, not patched to anything 2. The 5V gate output patched straight into Maths trigger input 3. The 5V gate going through the buffered mult, not patched to Maths 4. The 5V gate going through the...

Maths double triggering when using buff mult

I'm experiencing an infuriating phenomenon when using a Make Noise Maths in conjunction with an Intellijel Buff Mult. Hoping someone can advise where I'm going wrong... I am trying to trigger a transient to play alongside a longer note. If I send a 5v gate directly into one of the Maths' trigger inp...

Re: When only a unity mixer will do.

As I understand it a unity mixer sums the signals with no attenuation. So this is very useful for scenarios where you are mixing CV sources. For audio you might want a mixer with some kind of volume limiter.

I can only speak on the Mantis, but as a relative newcomer to Eurorack I'm super happy with it. Loads of power sockets arranged in convenient locations, and no issues with noise. I like the ability to stand it up at different angles and will probably buy another one at some point and screw them toge...

Re: Faking a resonant filter

This sounds very convincing! I used to try doing similar things with a Casio CZ1000 - they have "resonant" waveforms built in but they sound very thin out of the box. Playing about with the ring modulator and OSC2 pitch envelope I could get some decent sweeps and squelches although they were always ...
