Re: Is Covid sorting the men from the boys? Re: Availability.
No, it does not behoove anyone to offer an alternative idiom to one that may be offensive. If you're unable to communicate what you mean clearly through idioms (which, by their nature, isn't all that unusual), then don't use an idiom. No one can simply create one for you if one doesn't already exis...

Re: Is Covid sorting the men from the boys? Re: Availability.
Could this, perhaps, be moved into general discussion? I see that the OP mentioned a few modules specifically, but the topic really applies to any kind of hardware and the discussion has pretty well moved on from eurorack. Regarding the phrasing, I'll snip part of what I wrote, because I see too man...

Re: Ornament & Crime - Quantize - Transpose - How?
The basic idea was to always keep things in the set of current notes, so the transpose wasn't ever really a "calibrated" input and using a keyboard is a bit difficult. [Emphasis added.] The way the transpose works isn't even close to 1v/oct, it's more like +7 degrees over the (positive) input volta...

Re: Do high end mixers matter?
I guess I was imagining a "high end mixer" to be something a little more than what most modern mixers actually offer, in terms of ability to achieve a range of sonic characters according to the needs of a particular track or record. (Not that this isn't possible to an extent, but it sounds like most...

Re: Do high end mixers matter?
I think the principle holds with smaller, less expensive desks too. Desks have a sound, and can be used as part of the creative process. However, if they sound shit, then that will form part of the recording too. Surely there must be desks that are neutral, though? It just seems odd to me, never ha...

Re: Do high end mixers matter?
There might be something to this but there is another problem with Nyquist. I actually pointed this out to my instructor when I first learned about Nyquist in an electronics course many years ago. If you plot out a sine wave at 20khz that is sampled at the Nyquist frequency of 40khz, there will be ...

Re: Do high end mixers matter?
Yeah i think the 828mk2 came out in 2003 or 4. I'm sure the 16a was 2016. In 12 years i'm sure they would have made an improvement. People used to complain about the MOTU converters (black lion even still make "upgraded" converters for MOTU stuff..) Can i ask why you've gone to 96khz? I've read so,...

Re: Did anyone start big and no regrets?
I think that is a good way to learn what you want. I think the biggest problem can be if you fall into the "build a rack on Modulargrid and then before you even get around to changing the rack, redo the modulargrid model" , over and over again. Doh! I'm not a musician, I just play Modulargrid ...

Re: WMD and Make Noise Production delays
I'd recommend looking around for stock if you really want something right now. I'm not sure the cause of the delays is any big mystery. Waiting a month or more is pretty normal right now. Detroit Modular has pretty stellar support in my experience. Give them a call, and they'll be quite happy to let...

Re: Utility modules that make you happy?
I was looking at a 2hp attenuverter, then saw the ALM module for $10 more and ran right down to Perfect Circuit to pick one up. I like that it has dedicated offset-pots (unlike Mutable's Shades; though, Shades can do other things). Also bought a 2hp Unity for my two new (used) Tiptop Z3000 VC-Oscil...

Oh, I see. I thought that was a link to the channel of some random Brewery. (Because it sort of is.)
Edit: I guess it was the wrong link after all. There is some modular stuff there, though.

Re: Counterpoint with modular
The 4MS DLD can also delay your pitch and gate sequence (and likely time stretch and reverse, though reversal will be a bit tricky for the gates). I don't see any reason you couldn't do everything you asked in the OP using modules, if you want.

Re: Counterpoint with modular
I'll leave it to other, more experienced wigglers to comment on how best to build what you're describing, though I think you could achieve most of what you're looking for using multiple synced dc-coupled delays along with an inverter and precision adder (if I understand what you're going for with th...

Re: Patching Between Cases
I think it's a damn shame that Graham has had to leave this group. The information that he provided has been of great help and, while I have not followed all of his advice (the use of welding connectors for 0V reference is over the top, IMHO), I have ended up with a system that is quiet and free fr...

Re: Any synths that "hide" their architecture under a more "layman" interface?
The controls are labeled with names of parameters found in analog synths but under the hood those controls are manipulating DSP code. Analog synths don't usually label their controls with circuit diagrams. I think it's hard to find many good examples because, to use an example, a filter cutoff is s...

Re: Frequency Shifter
For an analog option, there's also the Cwejman FSH-1 (if you can find one). I've read (unfortunately I can't find where) that at least the original Bode frequency shifters could be quite temperamental in terms of calibration. The argument was that you're better off with a DSP version (like E560 or W...

Another thing to try is to file a slot into the screw (carefully) and use an appropriate driver. That's more a last resort before drilling, though.
