Re: Patching Between Cases

I think it's a damn shame that Graham has had to leave this group. The information that he provided has been of great help and, while I have not followed all of his advice (the use of welding connectors for 0V reference is over the top, IMHO), I have ended up with a system that is quiet and free fr...

Re: Any synths that "hide" their architecture under a more "layman" interface?

The controls are labeled with names of parameters found in analog synths but under the hood those controls are manipulating DSP code. Analog synths don't usually label their controls with circuit diagrams. I think it's hard to find many good examples because, to use an example, a filter cutoff is s...

Re: Frequency Shifter

For an analog option, there's also the Cwejman FSH-1 (if you can find one). I've read (unfortunately I can't find where) that at least the original Bode frequency shifters could be quite temperamental in terms of calibration. The argument was that you're better off with a DSP version (like E560 or W...

Another thing to try is to file a slot into the screw (carefully) and use an appropriate driver. That's more a last resort before drilling, though.

Re: Disapointing Modules

My two cents worth and I clearly believe it's my fault/user ineptitude. I'm disappointed in the Wogglebug, but maybe I just haven't found the right uses for it. I can't really put it into words other than maybe ho-hum. The other is the 4MS SWN. I've been working with it for a few months now and the...

Re: Rossum Electro-Music Mob of Emus

Yup I think I have it correct. So for example you couldn’t have 6 independent channels with CV inputs doing freq control over the first three and trigger over the second three. All of the assignable CV inputs must have the same function except in Multi CV input mode where they control all channels....

Funny that Katowice is cheaper at Control, but Sarajewo is cheaper at DM.

Re: Timing and control between modular (CV), non-modular (MIDI), and a DAW

Why not use the DAW as the master clock? Seems much simpler if you're using it anyway to sequence other instruments.

You could look at Midihub as a flexible MIDI router. The downsides are 4x4 MIDI in/out and no USB host functionality. (It will act as a USB MIDI interface, though.)

Re: 1U Tiles - Did Intellijel bribe all these manufacturers or what?

IT IS NOT A DEVIATION FROM A STANDARD 1U RACK. It is ALL about the rails used. The intellijel rails, like the rails used in the Doepfer, like the TipTop Z-Rails, and like many other rails, have a decorative lip on them that reduces the panel size when the rails are placed at the EIA RACK STANDARD 1...

Intellijel based their specs on euroracks current dimensional standards, so I'm guessing other manufacturers are seeing that as the new norm.
That, and Intellijel makes some pretty nice cases. I wouldn't expect manufacturer preference has much to do with anything other than what's selling.

Re: Dave Smith hints at Sequential Prophet 5 Rev4/Prophet 10

I'm also not sure anyone pointed it out, but I thought it was pretty interesting that the filter cutoff stops at about 24 kHz (vs. ~30 kHz on rev3). It seems way too convenient to be a coincidence that most professional audio interfaces operate at a multiple of 48 kHz. I didn't catch that but that ...

TBH I thought it was very subtle (though I'm old), and most likely only noticeable in direct comparison with an original. Of course this is meant to be an original, so still not great.
