Re: Film vs. Ceramic caps?

Thanks, Mike

When I buy MLCCs I always go for TDK, as I like the nice blue color.

Re: Film vs. Ceramic caps?

Hey, you gave me a useful link, so thanks.

I'm sure the information is in there, but I was wondering if there is a "Top Trumps" deck for caps :-)

For example, reversal of expected voltage - Tants 0; Film 8. Or something...

Re: Film vs. Ceramic caps?

I did, but clearly failed. Thanks for the link.

(in fact I DuckDuckWent it, but the result was still a non-result for me).

Film vs. Ceramic caps?

Looking at what appear to be well though-out and designed projects - say, the Weston Pro2021 - I noticed lots of film caps vs. ceramics. Are films in general "better", or is there a specific reason. I know that in general ceramics are less $$$, but when would one favor a ceramic over a film if one h...

Re: USB oscilloscope for synth

The audio adapter for the Digilent Analog Discovery is now 50% off

(as are the BNC adapter and impedance analyzer).

Re: USB oscilloscope for synth

Daft question, but I just see a bunch of jumper cable-type connections- are there i/o modules that provide pre-rolled BNC connectivity? There is an adapter PCB board for the Digilent Discovery, costs around $20: https://reference.digilentinc.com/reference/instrumentation/bnc-adapter-board/start Loo...

Pot chiclets with solder jumpers

I designed a very simple pot chiclet with solder jumpers in case the wiper needs to be tied to either end.

Gerbs attached. Do what you will with these.

Re: YATMA - Yet Another Transistor MAtcher ( for lazybones )

@elektrouwe - I snagged the "big" KiCAD YATMA files from github, but couldn't find the .pcb/.sch files for YATMA2. Did you ever upload those?

Re: Recreating Maplin synths kits?

I was thinking about PCBs too. Custom boards shouldn't be too expensive. Y Use a couple with the original spacing, and use standard spacers.

Can't be too tough.

Recreating Maplin synths kits?

I never had enough pounds to afford one of the Maplins, but I was desperately keen to get one. What is good/bad about them nowadays compared to others in that class? I have the original articles, and was thinking about making one, just for shits 'n' grins. What do people think are the upsides/downsi...

Re: Patch and Tweak book?

My wife bought it for me. It's nice, but I would say it's a coffee-table book. Very well produced, with pretty graphics, and lots of interviews with more-or-less famous people in the scene. However, I don't think it has much depth for an experienced moduloid. If you're pretty new it may very well gi...

I got one of the EEVBlog 121GW meters, and I really love it. They're out of stock at Amazon, but you might be able to buy one direct from EEV Blog - that's where I got mine.

Build Log for Weston PRO2021

Hi All My kit arrived from synthCube on Wednesday, and I plan to start building it this weekend. (Actually, I planned to start with the PSU today, but left my construction bag in the car, which Mrs lusoman has just driven to work...) If anyone is interested in following this process, please let me k...

@nostalghia - thanks for the link to OGWT - that was one of the things that got me interested in synth music way, way back (it also got me interested in Emmylou after seeing her sing Amarillo, but that's another story...)
