Re: Behringer System 55

I had a friends who parents had a two manual harpsichord. I would play it all the time when I went over. Ah, yes. I had a music teacher with one in his house. This was in the days of Zuckermann Harpsichord kits. I eventually built one of their Italian Virginals and learnt quite a lot about how to t...

Re: Behringer System 55

Continuing my quest to replicate the sound of a harpsichord, I fancy a little trigger at the release of the key to make the little click as the plectrum sits back down. Any suggestions about how this might be achieved with the standard modules, or should I get out my 555 timer circuits (rising edge ...

Big order of pots came in!

Going to be very busy!
Woo! How exciting.
After an unfortunate incident with trying to de-solder a jack socket, I'm back to plan-A making a nice tidy loom for all the connections that were behind the scenes on the original!

Re: Behringer System 55

My problem with the 914 is getting my fingers round the How did you wire the 914 up to play with the feedback possibilities? Remember the CP3A-M can boost signals by using multiple inputs. I 'mult' the 914 output into three CP3M inputs, then run that into the 914 input. A Doepfer A-183-3 Amplifier ...

Re: Behringer System 55

Will publicly say I'm now considering picking up CP35. Come on, $80 for the best grouped attenuator set ever made! That's tough to turn down. This and the price for the 995 attenuators just shows what the overhead is for doing anything at all. The panel, the pcb, the design time, the packaging, the...

Re: Behringer System 55

Speaking of 914. Got the rest of the knobs in. I have some of those knobs for the hand-made modules that my arch cheapskate self couldn't bring itself to buy, i.e. the attenuators! My problem with the 914 is getting my fingers round the knobs as supplied. Would you say that those slightly chunkier ...

Re: Behringer System 55

However, if one wanted change a pot. The T1 pot on the 911 would be the best opportunity to gain some respectable performance for your trouble. Yes. On the 911, for me, the initial performance of the attack at the ms end was disappointing, again for what I wanted to do in boring old "real" instrume...

Re: Behringer System 55

Anyone not familiar with the Behringer System 55 modules might think they were a DIY project reading this thread :hihi: Ha ha. It's been great to assemble a little system that sort of looks and sounds like the original Moog which I have been dithering about building for the last 40 years. There wer...

Re: Behringer System 55

Lol! That's a good one! I think I saw it done in the past too. I prefer a new tip at that point :-) Well yes. You say that, but the floppy squidginess of the heatshrink made it work really well! Although the solder didn't always end up in the tube. I can now change out the T1 pot in no time! It was...

Re: Behringer System 55

My additional two 911s are arriving today, so I might be about to experience your S-trig troubles. Good to have a heads up. They've arrived! And the UPS driver (touring theatrical LX technician in a pre Covid life) gave me a good desoldering tip. Put a bit of heat shrink on the end of the solder su...

Re: Behringer System 55

Here’s an updated Where Used sheet for potentiometers. The knob assignment is read left to right as they appear in their respective columns. Well. My 1M Alpha pots arrived today and I changed my first 911-T1. It's so good to have a bit more resolution between off and 10ms! I can't say I enjoyed the...

Re: List of Voltage Ranges of Modules

Pitch CVs are the main problem. When Arturia meets Moog it's a pain. Ha ha. Yes. I was wondering why my Arturia Keystep caused the 8' 921 Oscillator stop to be so high! I've just ordered a Doepfer A-183-2 Voltage Offset Generator module, so hopefully the squeaky sounds will be a thing of the past. ...

Re: Behringer System 55

I prefer low frequency accuracy as I use 921 primarily as an LFO, if I want spectral purity, I'll use a 921B. I haven't really even noticed any audio rate waveform distortion. Yes. That's exactly what I wanted it for and in my little sessions so far, I kept needing a second LFO - hence the latest a...

Re: Behringer System 55

Yes. I attacked the first 921 with my magnifying glass and tiny screwdriver this eve twiddling those two pots with the help of the scope. Bouncing from no glitch in the LF to a square wave at audio frequencies and back again. Knowing that the other 921 was OK led me to persevere until the best compr...

Re: Behringer System 55

You can fix the sine and triangle sub-audio glitch on the 921. There are two trimmers I've mentioned in the thread to address this. My 2nd 921 arrived today and there is no glitch. So out with the #0 screwdriver for 921 No 1. The Moog 991 filter function is provided by the B923 module, if you just ...

The ALPHA though is a huge improvement for the timing application.
Do the pots from Thonk fit the knobs? RD901F-40-15F-A1M According to the datasheet they are 300 deg.

Re: Behringer System 55

After a little session last night, I became frustrated with the sheer number of cables just doing standard stuff. No room to get your hands in to twiddle the knobs. So, whether to make a nice loom that uses the sockets as supplied but nicely tidies the default connections out of the way OR to delve ...

Re: Behringer System 55

Whether you wait for me, go it alone, or do nothing; #2 is the gating factor. Let someone else pay for the destructive part. If you don't like waiting, dig in and find some parts - all the specs are spelled right out: 1Meg ohm, "snap-in", vertical D-shaft, 9mm, true-log construction, 10% taper. It'...

Re: Behringer System 55

FWIW, this fast change really made them useful for me by some suitably subjective measure of satisfaction proportional to the frequency with which I utilize fast envelopes; i.e. 99.99% of the time :-) Really glad I picked these Behringer's to jump in on. So What's the final summary of your 911 mods...

Natural OR of S-trigs is one of their greatest strengths.
Yes. I had better results from the 911A when I discovered its original intended use --- to provide possibly three different (and delayed) envelopes from a single S-Trig.

Re: Behringer System 55

(5 x 911) Ha ha. Yes. I was fortunate to acquire my third 911 on eBay last night.

I've still not quite got the 911A to do what I expect. Can you take its output and feed it along with with another S-trig into a 911 or don't they OR together like that?

Re: Behringer System 55

I've recently acquired some of these most affordable modules, after having had a suppressed desire to own a Moog since 1971! Funnily enough my creative urges tend more to the Buchla thread of things, but we'll see how it goes. My first slight disappointment was trying to use the 921 to slowly sweep ...
