multiple modulators for fm

is there any reason i shouldn't be using multiple modulators (2 oscillator outs and an audio rate lfo) into shades (for blending amounts) into the linear fm of a mother 32? am i potentially damaging the mother 32 with too much voltage?

Re: Eurorack Drum Machine

i'm finding a hybrid approach really satisfying and fun. i use a korg esx as my main drum machine, i can also use it to send midi to my nifty case which gives me 2 channels of cv/gate to trigger percussion events in my case. i will also sometimes use the esx's additional outputs into ears to create ...

Re: how would you patch with this system?

i've definitely built more complex/subtle patches than this but hopefully it gives an idea of where i'm starting from and maybe the kind of thinking i'd like to expand upon

Re: how would you patch with this system?

here's a basic patch i might start off with as a rhythm thing, S-183 sequencing chipz pitch into lpg into mixer, different steps from the S-181 combined in Shades triggering the Karp, matrix mixer as reverb send

how would you patch with this system?

i'm using a Korg ESX sampler for sequencing, mother 32 as a trad synth voice, microfreak for mostly pseudo drums and some melody/bass and this nifty bundle plus generic case so i have clock and 2 midi cv/gate ins https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/309321 it's been assembled as things come up f...

this is driving a dc motor but if it works the same as a field kit you could probably use a solenoid with it

it seems to me that trying to play a kalimba mounted in your case would not be much fun either

Re: New Budget Eurorack suggestions

mutable instruments ears was one of my first modules and has been very handy, not only can you bring external sounds into the modular but you can use the audio from a drum machine to generate gates/triggers to time other modules not strictly in a straight clock pulse

Re: Did I miss it or have we yet to see...?

kalimba + contact mic + ears

then if you don't end up using it too much you can still use ears for other things

And also try mixing in a LFO or stepped random with the gates to automate this varying gate velocity.
oh yeah, great tip, i'm really looking forward to playing around with this

Re: Interesting uses for attenuverters

Which reminds me, you can also use it with different gates at the inputs, to mix them together to generate pitch CV. Three "bits" of input give you 8 possible voltage levels out. it took me a minute to work out what you meant but that sounds interesting. it's tips like this that push me out of my s...

Re: Interesting uses for attenuverters

this is all great info, thanks. i got a pretty good deal on the module and knew that at bare minimum i would use it as a mixer but i'm very happy to see some uses i hadn't thought of. is there any harm in running triggers/gates into it? i was thinking i could put triggers into it and ride the knob t...

Interesting uses for attenuverters

I just ordered a MI Shades and i'm wondering if anyone has any atypical uses for attenuverters. i more or less understand the basic functions (attenuate/invert/offset/mix) but it's always good to get more experienced users insight on how to get the most out of your modules. i have googled and search...

Re: Another First Eurorack Post - Mayonnaise Edition

one can learn plenty from semi modulars, they are in essence a bunch of modules put into a convenient package, you can use bits and pieces of them in your eventual modular case. i started with a microbrute and m32, i still use their sequencers, filters, envelopes, lfos, etc as parts of other patches...

Re: best & "most unique" sounding standard modules?

I remember reading a while back that Ridley Scott came very close to working on Doctor Who. The original 1960s Doctor Who, not the modern version. He began his career in the 1960s as a set designer for the BBC, and he was assigned to design the sets for the second serial - this is often conflated i...

Check out the Ladik S-180 and its expanders.
i just got the S-180/181/183 combo and it's proving to be great fun, if i expand to bigger sequencer i can still find lots of uses for them

Re: bridging "real world" with modular

I Usually include some "real world" interface in all of my concerts. One of my favorite tricks is to attach a piezo pickup to things: Piezo pickup.jpg This photo shows how to make one. The piezo transducer (available from Sparkfun, Amazon, and plenty of other places) has two wires already soldered ...
